I thought that…read moreit might feel good to kick and punch something after a long workday...and I was right, it feels great! Along with working out the frustrations of my day, I was able to improve my cardio, build muscle and boost my balance. At my age (ahem...past middle age), I am in better shape than many of my peers. I watched my son learn from wonderful instructors and student helpers (STORM members) who cared for him physically and emotionally, with their emphasis on living the 5 tenets of Taekwondo, as well as maintaining good grades and behavior. Students at JW Kim learn far more than martial arts: they learn to be a team; they learn life skills in the daily "mat chats"; they learn the importance of making their best effort. Another thing I love about JW Kim is the number of safety measures they have put in place since the beginning of the pandemic. This sends a clear message that JW Kim cares about students and their families as well as their staff, by keeping the dojang and its lobby clean and safe for all. For those like me with an immunocompromised family member, this is vital for my being able to continue practicing Taekwondo with them!

I love the class structure. Each class are broken into smaller groups based on their belt level and will have small sessions with each masters. These smaller groups gives the opportunities for your child to get seen. It's a very family oriented center. They hold different events throughout the year and even have parties to bring the TKD community closer. My boys loves the challenge to achieve their black belt. Don't expect to become a black belt over night, it take motivation and perseverance to get there.

I had my son enrolled in the black belt program, which required a big lump sum upfront ($4500)…read more After a few months into the program, my son started losing interest, and it was a struggle to make him go. Master Shawn convinced me that he would address such issues and help the students overcome it, however, nothing changed after I brought it up in meetings with Master Shawn. After attending for another few months, we decided to leave the program and had a meeting with Master Shawn, who promised that he would work out a partial refund. Half a year later, we're still waiting to hear from him, trying to reach him to receive any kind of refund to no avail. We haven't completed even half the program, we returned all the equipment, and had an impression that Master Shawn was the man of his word, who promised to partially refund the payment. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but when the business isn't following up on their promises, isn't responding to phone calls and isn't trying to help its customers, that business isn't deserving of a good review.

He's been there two weeks now and I can safely say it's the best decision we could have made for our child. Strive is incredible. There is no gimmick, no up selling, upgrading, paying for belts. It is up front and honest in a way that I didn't know existed in the martial arts world anymore. The kids are happy and having fun but in the most properly structured environment I've ever witnessed. They have clear concise direction and expectations that they happily elevate themselves to meet. It manages to both be fun and controlled at the same time. The owner clearly believes in the kids and encourages them with kindness and strength to be their best. We also love the level of fitness and conditioning involved in their training. I strongly believe strength and fitness is an integral part of martial arts and life. These kids are being taught life skills in conditioning their most valuable asset: their bodies and future health. A kid who trains at Strive will have a distinct advantage in the world. Finally the clarity of training is incomparable. The kids are given clear concise directions that are easy to follow and understand. They learn actively and take the time to learn the names, each step as well as why they do each thing they do. After witnessing 6-8 classes at Strive I can confidently say it is a uniquely impressive school and would be an excellent choice for any child or adult.
