Cenlar misdirected my monthly payment to another account and then send me late payment notices and had their collection department called to collect debt. I must have spent 40 plus hours on the phone waiting and explaining the situation to them with nothing resolved. They admitted the fund was misdirected to another account, escrow, but said they can't fix it and need a supervisor to call me back. Their supervisor never called and in the mean time their collection Dept kept calling. Another problem is their representatives are rude and completely useless. They would put me on hold for 20 minutes to research a problem and the return and tell you they can't help and a supervisor would need to call back. And if I say something that they didn't like, they would hang up the phone and let you call back back after waiting 40 minutes, then hang up again if they see the same number. Horrible company and people. I have filed a complaint with BBB and currently working on a lawsuit and state attorney complaint. This company should not be in business. This company and its people are the I have ever experienced dealing with in my entire 50 plus years dealing with businesses. They should be shutdown. Please shut them down before they do more damage. As for my problem, god knows when they are going to fix it. I truly believe they are using my money for their own benefits. Thanks a bunch Citi for handling my account over to them. Quick update- I'd like to give zero starts rather than my initial one star. So after "Staci" messages me and tells me someone will reach out, someone actually does. But calls, says he'll send an email with payoff instructions, takes 2 days lol. Firstly there's interest and late fees. He says they can't waive them (of course not) Secondly he says the only way to pay this off is via wire transfer. Really?! I'm not a business and am not setup for wire transfers! My bank will charge a hefty fee for that. After replying to him with my dissatisfaction and shock he says he "personally doesn't agree" with his own company's policy!! This is really insane! The automated system does not recognize my loan, probably because I refinanced it. Also, it does not recognize me by any identifying information. Their automated customer service only gives me the same number to call, so I go through the same run-around, over and over. I can't tell you what a nightmare it was to have a loan serviced by Cenlar. We got a HELOC with them via a broker. Had to take out an initial amount. Turned around and paid it back immediately. HOWEVER, we didn't pay in the right place on the website so they marked it as a late payment. 30 days later they reported me to the credit agencies as having a late payment. I spent years rebuilding my credit and they knocked 120 points off it in one fell swoop. Their timing was wonderful considering I was in the middle of buying a house. When I attempted to call someone at Cenlar, had to tell my story to 5 different people (took 90 minutes) before they finally sent me to someone who worked on HELOCs. Seriously. How many times did I need to say HELOC? This guy tells me how I paid principle and no interest so the payment is late. He also tells me that Cenlar shouldn't have marked that as a late payment as we were still within the 60 day grace period from when the loan was originated and that he would submit to have the late payment removed. Claimed he would do it. Later on I get a letter from Cenlar stating that the request to remove the late payment was rejected because it didn't have appropriate records supporting my claim (that was filed for me by Cenlar staff) - AS THOUGH THE RECORD SUPPORTING MY CLAIM WASN'T THE PAYMENT HISTORY THEY READILY HAD ACCESS TO! But the most stunning example of incompetence/corruption/both was when we went to pay off the HELOC they put up every possible barrier to doing so. The biggest CF was when they refused to transmit a payoff amount to escrow until we submitted proof of homeowners insurance. Keep in mind, we already had the HELOC for over six months at this point and homeowners insurance was definitely a requirement of the loan and definitely something we submitted while applying. How is it that Cenlar gave us access to a six-figure credit line without ever having asked for proof of homeowners insurance? I don't know but if you take what people say on other sites (e.g. BBB) about them forcing insurance on people that already have it (while making a nice profit) and put it together with their seeming inability to know when their customers have insurance, you can draw your own conclusions. We practically had to beg them to let us pay them back before they finally sent the payoff. Damn near derailed closing escrow. Bottom line, I have never wanted to bang my head against something so hard as I did after ever interaction I had with Cenlar. If you have any option at all in when it comes to who services your loan I have to ABSOLUTELY, 1000% WARN YOU AGAINST USING CENLAR!!!! read more

Unfortunately after refinancing our home with Homebridge (smooth and awesome process) the loan has been sold to Cenlar. The customer service is definitely not what you look for when you try to interact with a company managing your home mortgage. We had literally to chase them plenty of times from March to July in order to accept our money, wanted to setup a bi-weekly payment but I had to interact with at least 7 different agent, 2 escalation managers and I've been answered differently each time. I thought I've been just unlucky but researching online the average review rate is 1out5 so its definitely a pattern. Looking forward to refinance soon and hoping not to end up with Cenlar again. Given the hours wasted in the process and painful interactions with the system, I can't make it higher than 3 apparently. However, I think it is necessary to reward the effort they put in fixing the issue, no matter how inefficiently. I still believe everyone deserves a second chance; giving up on them would only kill the last incentive for redemption. UPDATE. The following day 05/11/21, after posting my original review regarding Cenlar's non-existent customer service, I received this "follow up" from a representative offering to assist me in the issue. Attached below is the short conversation with the representative who contacted me via Yelp. It was just more canned, templated "Sorry" responses regurgitated from other "customer service" representatives - as well as the "Wait another 24-48 hours" for no one to call you back BS. I stated my concerns about their lack of communication/follow up and asked her what my next course of action should be if the problem is not solved this time. The message clearly shows it was read, but then promptly ignored with no response. Suffice to say, I have very very low confidence anything will be resolved soon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ UPDATE #2. 05/12/21 1700hrs After posting the above update I received another Yelp message from "Claire". Again, I received only a hollow apology that no supervisors have contacted me following my requests and NO answer to any of my questions. I was only told that there is a "process" the social media team must go through in contacting the appropriate department. See attached photo for her response. At about 1140am today (05/12) I received a phone call from a customer service representative (CSR) from the "Research Dept". Again a CSR only, and NOT a supervisor as I've requested numerous times. The CSR was unable to help me in any way regarding my situation. She stated that she would "research" the issue, contact a supervisor and would need (you guessed it!) ANOTHER 24-48 hours. This brings us to the weekend, so the earliest I can expect to hear back from Cenlar is Monday 5/17. The CSR stated that if the issue wasn't resolved at this time, then she would "escalate" it to another level supervisor, however she was unable to tell me who that may be. I requested she skip the BS research part and "escalate" it now, which was met with essentially no response. I again asked to have a supervisor call me immediately, which was met with the standard response of them having to submit a request and a wait period of 24-48 hours. The CSR "attempted" to contact supervisors via an in house messaging system, but after a few minutes told me some weren't available and others did not respond to her request. The CSR told me she would check in at the end of the work day to see if there was any response and get back to me with a status update. It's now 5:15pm PST and NO response from the CSR or Cenlar. Being as they are based in New Jersey, I highly doubt they are still open. This situation just keeps getting worse and worse. Just when I think there is no possible way a company and its employees can be any more incompetent, they surprise me again with more stupidity, false promises, and flat out lies. Whether its the long wait times the unfriendly staff, charging ppl late fee for their mistakes. They just sold my loan to flagstaff bank and I didn't mind like I said they were the worst. So I have high hopes for this new company. Rather than dealing with cenlar they actually told me what was going on in my loans.. they informed me I occurred a late charge. This confused me considering I pride myself to make sure my payments are on time or within my grace period. I asked this young lady when was this late charge applied they informed me back in June. In June I was still with cenlar... I call cenlar... No answer.... No answer.... Finally I get through the animated phone tells me I'm now banking with flagstaff and hangs up on me left with no other option. No hey i wanna speak with someone nothing..? Now here's the reason for the late fee back in June. Cenlar will charge a fee if you call in a payment you can make a free payment online via app or website. The app is a new feature that they made. I downloaded the app for more convenience and made my payment. I get a notification I have a late fee.... I call they told me they apologize . And take late fee off.... see where this is going...? This company is crooked and I would go as far as hoping ppl before they get a loan with them look up this yelp. Cenlar has been a nightmare to work with. My mother passed away and I need a release of lien or payoff on her loan. I have sent all the correct documentation to be successor on her account including: Death certificate, birth certificate , letters of administration, decree of property, photo id settlement agreement. I have put in numerous requests for a pay off and a call back. Nobody has been able to help me. They sent me 1 check and then stopped payment which caused my bank to be overdrawn and now I'm waiting on a second check that they said I should receive next week. Cenlar took over servicing of my mortgage soon after I refinanced about 5 years ago. When I looked them up online and saw all these bad reviews, I got pretty concerned. All I can say though is that I set my payments up on automatic by having my bank send them a check each month (payments are controlled by me, they don't have direct debit from my checking account) and I've never had a problem. Everything was done as it was supposed to have been done, I got all my statements and tax forms on time. I think I called customer support once or twice and someone solved whatever it was I called about. About a year ago, my mortgage loan was transferred to a new servicer and Cenlar handled the transfer without any problems, including forwarding a payment I automatically made to them, to the new servicer. In a way I think reading all the bad reviews helped, because I made sure everything was taken care of and done automatically, and as such, everything worked perfectly and never had any problems. If I could leave a review with zero stars, I would. Citibank transferred a loan they were servicing to Cenlar way back. The loan was originally taken out by my deceased mom. She passed in 2016, and I supplied Citibank with all the paperwork in 2017 showing I was handling the estate and was now the owner. Deed at Monmouth county shows me being the legal owner since 2017. House has been in my name since the middle of 2017, and property tax bill shows the same. Cenlar neglected all these years to request any documentation from me. I paid off the loan this past February 24, 2024, and Cenlar overshot the payoff payment amount by $126.33. They sent the check for the overpayment to me with the Estate of (deceased mom) and refuse to write the check to me even thought the funds were transferred to them from my PNC account to pay off the loan. Now they're saying they want my birth certificate to prove I'm her daughter, my mom's death certificate, her will, and my photo identification. How disgusting and low will a company go? If this doesn't say how low, then I don't know what does. Stay far away from this company. Their employees are neglectful and truly don't understand the appropriate documentation to request. Their delay tactics are hideous. Just this week and last week I've dealt with Lisa, Ryan, Stephanie, and Mark, not to mention the other two women that assured me they were handling this over a month ago and resending a check in my name. So happy I'm finally away from this because I believe they were handling payments incorrectly and misapplying funds to interest versus principal which is why I paid off the loan and went with another servicer. (Day 2) Claire T. Never reached out on the Yelp app to message me so I could respond to her with the information she requested. I called Cenlar at 9:30 EST and spoke with LaTonya. After a ten-minute hold, LaTonya was told to provide me the email address of Adrienn Kowalski, a media spokesperson, and that she was unable to find any Claire T. Located at Cenlar. This doesn't surprise me at all. If Claire truly wanted people to respond with appropriate information, she would initiate a message out in this app because everyone knows the company has to initiate contact first. I am of the opinion that Claire T. Is a BOT. (Day 2) Someone named "Lisa" from Cenlar called and left a message on my home line. No extension, no last name, no direct line. She asked me to call customer service. This is the second time this same woman has left a message. When I call customer service, they have no idea who left me a message to return a call. More delay tactics and mismanagement. My email to Ms. Kowalski or someone from her division goes unanswered this morning. (Day 3) I received an email today by someone with the last name of Plocher who stated if I didn't receive a check that Cenlar could reissue me a check. Another example of the epitome of mismanagement within this company with this person reaching out and not knowing that I was asked to shred the check by Cenlar employees over 1.5 months ago since it was made payable to my mom's estate and there isn't a bank account because all assets have been transferred into my name over 8 years ago. (Day 4 May 13, 2024). After providing all necessary documentation and calling in today after receiving a Cenlar letter asking for me to sign yet an additional document, I've now been transferred around and put on hold several times all in order to get a refund for $126 and change because Cenlar gave an incorrect payoff amount. Just today alone I'm on hold for 43 minutes in order to get a check sent back to me. Now I'm being told by Katrina in the HELOC loan division that it will take them till May 22nd to review and possibly send a check made payable to me now that they've added me as a successor in interest in this account. Update: Company response highlights issue and failure to understand. Last year I could make a principle payment at any time whether the monthly payment had been made or not. I can do that with my primary mortgage with a different company. Now they say the monthly interest loaded payment must be made first which is an interest grab and reduces my drawdown of principle. Further it prevents the ability mid cycle when additional funds become available to immediately draw down principle. Company refuses to allow online principle only payment from time statement is issued unless monthly payment is made first. This was not the case prior to this year when I was able to make principle only payment at any time. I am set up with autopay so there is not an issue of whether my payment will be made on time. This company is now preventing me from reducing my principle when I want to thereby increasing the interest payed over the life of the HELOC by forcing early payment of the monthly payment which is loaded with interest preventing principle reduction. The insurance department is totally incompetent. Forced charging additional flood insurance even though I already purchased additional flood insurance as they told me to. It's been 3 weeks and my account is still not reimbursed. What's even worse if they DOUBLE paid a separate flood insurance. Now my account is in DEFICIT. Customer Service is horrendous. On the phone for over 1.5 hour waiting to talk to the "supervisor" Angelica. She had a major attitude and not apologetic at all. I was trying to explain the story to her and she interrupted me multiple times saying there is nothing they can do. 50 minute hold time and I finally got to speak to a live agent who was looking into my loans and when she switched from hold to back on the call she must have hit the wrong button and hung up on me. Cenlar is too good for call backs as I still haven't received one even though they have all our information. Not to mention I waited 2 hrs on hold on Friday for the representative, Wens, to infer I was a liar and guarantee me a call back from the manager on Fri (2/5). Even when I asked what if this doesn't happen (which it didn't), his response was I'm putting a request in so it has to happen. I just found out he never put the request in for a manager to return my call. Cenlar is too big to care. Shame on them to treat people like this. Without our business, these miserable live agents wouldn't have a job and cenlar wouldn't be in business. UPDATE: I have changed my review from 1 star to 4 stars. We made an online payment before our loan was transferred to another company and Cenlar did not inform the other company that we have already made the payment. It's incredibly frustrating especially since we cannot reach anyone through the customer service phone number. Cenlar Loan Administration is Just HORRIBLE! IRRESPONSIBLE and NEGLIGENT! Extremely poor customer support! I have been put on hold for more than 2 HOURS multiple times in the last 3 months. I have followed up on making tax payments on our property 45 DAYS ahead of the deadline date to avoid penalty, and YET the penalty fee came out from our escrow. To correct this error on your part, we have been trying to email you and call you since December and no one is willing to help out. And NOW, apparently there is a shortage in our escrow and you are charging more in payments every month to make up for the balance. How did this happen???? Extremely frustrated with this process! I posted a lengthy review last week and they did reach out to me only to tell me that the legal form I sent is not the form that they use. I sent in this form two weeks ago and they could not use an electronic signature. The IRS is ok with it but not the almighty Cenlar. I had the owner sign it and fax it in and one week later they tell me I can't use the legal form that I sent but must use theirs. Even though it contains the same information it's not good for them. I started with this company. In 2020, my self and my husband we had an exemption on our property . They refused to put them on the property the city had it . The company took four year to get it right they made it right but that after they made us pay them 28 680 .00 in back property taxes . The management is bad they should be put out if business . I'd give ZERO stars if I could....after reading through a number of the other reviews here for CENLAR, this does have me seriously concerned that this entity is intentionally employing misleading business practices to eek every dollar and cent possible. My very simple task: to payoff my mortgage loan. Firstly, why and how is it that CENLAR doesn't allow for their borrowers to pay off their loan balances online? This should've been an early red flag to me in how painful the process would be over the next 8 weeks. So no option other than to call their customer service number to try and pay this loan off...you'd think they would make it easier on people to pay off their loans than to have to deal with multiple calls into their customer service team (with a wait time of at least 45 minutes every time....unbelievably aggravating....all this to try and pay off a loan!). All in all, I spoke to 4 different customer service reps over a span of 2 months to pay off the loan with them. The first 3 reps were 100% useless and inept. By the 2nd and 3rd calls, I asked for the payoff statement to be emailed to me in addition to the physical copy in the mail....received neither copies. In fact, never received anything pertaining to my payoff request until I got on the line with the 4th rep and went irate and threatened to report CENLAR to the Better Business Bureau. Miraculously, what shows up in my email inbox within 5 minutes of ending the call and then my payoff statement in the mail a week later? UNBELIEVABLE..... I am 100% convinced CENLAR does not want their borrowers to pay off their loans so they can continue to earn interest income on these loans. I haven't yet received my loan true-up statement post the wire last week but if I see that they screwed around with the payoff fees or interest or any other balances, that will be the last straw! I know most of us didn't choose to go with CENLAR (in my case, CitiMortgage sold off my loan to these guys). My advice would be to STEER CLEAR. read more

This is the worst company I've ever seen. Don't trust them at all. I had problem to make my monthly payments and I took perbarens program for two months and they promised me that I have protection and there is no credit report for that and they told me after your program is ended you call and we give you new options for your payment and discuss about that later. after that, I called them and asked them I'm ready to start my payments and they told me I have to wait until they fix my account up-to-date. and then I can start to pay. after that, I called them and ask them during this period. Do you report me for negative credit, and late payment credit and they told me no you are protect, and there is no bad credit report for that. I talked to supervisor. Also, his name is Keven Thomson . Also ,Supervisor was lying .every time I called. Everyone told me different stories . supervisor promised me to take care of my case and try to not report for bad credit but, he never Called me back and he doesn't care. I talked to other supervisors., and again I didn't get call back from them. I called them every day, but the customer service told me they don't gonna report for bad credit and I have to wait for my payment option., but the other worker told me that I reported to negative credit report for two months. After that I talked to other ladies in customer service and she told me if I pay my payment for February they going to take out my negative credit report back.. but when I talk to supervisor again, he told me that it's not true. I asked him so you mean your supervisor and customer service lied ,he answered yes. you can't play with others, Credit, history and life, and tell me that you lied. he was very cool and told me yes it was not true. It was lie. I was really upset and mad to hear that. You can't lie and play with others life, this is not easy situation for me my credit and life history is important for me, and if you are not professional you can't promise people, and give them wrong information. I trust you and wait that you give me payment option every time I called you ,you told me I can't make a payment, I have to wait to you bring my account up-to-date. If it's not my fault, why I have to Reported to negative credit report. I kept my credit, history, clean and high credit for 15 years and for one lie and not professional work I have to lose my clean credit history. Trying to work with Cenlar is a waking nightmare. It's a real company, but customer service interactions would make you think otherwise - to the point that it could easily be a phone scam. I tried to make a lump sum payment on the website recently. A smiley face pops up and says it can't be done, and encourages me to call the customer service number. Fair enough. I call in, jump through a 5-layer labyrinth of options (as well as reminders that call volume is extremely high and users should use the website), and am connected to an agent 40 minutes later. The agent explains that lump sum payments need to be wired to an account number which will only be provided via phone - no written record, and no emails are permitted. At this point, I'm obviously concerned, and ask for a paper trail of some sort before wiring a large sum of money to an unknown account - anything that can confirm the account number the agent is providing is actually Cenlar's, or a reference ID for the transaction I can refer to in the future for tracing any potential issues. I ask whether the agent whether this is a reasonable and doable request. "Uh, yes, of course," is the hesitant answer. The agent hangs up. At this point, Cenlar's business model of purchasing loans and increasing servicing friction as a method of customer retention is only too clear. Other reviews seem to confirm this. I initially wrote a review in January saying how terrible Cenlar was. As a result I received a call from Sharon who tried to help even though we both agreed there were serious problems with the website. At least I had someone to talk to. So I went on my account yesterday and found 2 problems. 1) in my personal info was an old phone # that was no longer active. I tried to update it online but kept getting error messages. 2) My automatic payment was increased by approx. $20. per month even though my principal has decreased & as far as I know interest rates have not changed. I tried calling Sharon ,and got voice mail. Have not received a return call as of yet. I tried sending messages within the website with no response. I tried Chatting within the website but was told that they couldn't deal with questions about a HELOC. I had to call an 855 #. I am currently on hold 30 minutes with that #. Cenlar the worst of the worst. Im on forbearance period, and still they charge me for this month, I request a refund, on august 5th, today is august 18th and still have not got my money back. The custumer service that took my call today, said that they send my check on regular mail, after 5 calls and 3 hang up they tell me that, every time different person tells me different things, and at the end, they put the the blame on USPS for the delay. The lady Ms. Rivera, id 485657 from customer service, was rude and arguing with me.
