This is the worst loan company ever! I waited on hold forever, they told me to go to the website to apply for a service... turns out that service doesn't even exist. They say "We are here to help", but then actually offer, absolutely no help at all. Update after a nice lady from Cenlar wrote to me: Staci, Thank you for taking the time to respond. That certainly counts for something positive from your company. However, I have looked on your website... all I can seem to find is a form that merely delays my payments for 3 months. Then in the 4th month I have pay 4 month worth of mortgages all at once. Here is my question regarding all of us who are out of work at the moment: If we do not get to work for 3 months, once we return to work after 3 months, do we get 3 months of back-pay (in order to pay 3 months of mortgage?). No. So deferring payment for 3 months simply to collect a balloon payment at the end does't really anyone, especially those of us who: 1. don't qualify for unemployment or 2. will rec. unemployment, but at a greatly reduced amount (not enough to make a mortgage payment). The only way a 'deferred' payment helps anybody out of work is this: Put those 3 payments at the very end of the mortgage life. In other words, instead of collecting 4 months worth of mortgage payments in the 4th month, why not offer to collect those 3 mortgage payments at the end of the life of the mortgage, sequentially? I.e. if you have a 30-yr. fixed loan, it would then become a 30-yr & 3-mo. fixed loan. That is something that would Actually Help the People really in trouble during these uncertain times. These people are the WORST in customer service i've ever seen. In fact, you can't call what they do " Custmer Service". They treat you as if you are a slave thats forever controlled by them as long as you owe a mortgage. They cost me thousands of dollars in higher property taxes because they ACTUALLY refused to allow me an opertunity to fight the county over their extreme and unjustified tax increase prior to paying it. If I could give them zero, I would. I've been trying to get my $2,188.34 from my escrow account. They have alleged a check went out on January 6th. The address on the check was correct. It's March 2nd. I paid off the mortgage December 11th. Still have not received my money. I've been assured it will be overnighted. They're so full of crap. I've filed complaints with BBB, AG of NJ, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the OCC. If I owed them money after 90 days, they'd be harassing me daily and be ready to foreclose. They're in violation of RESPA. I would never choose to do business with this incompetent company. It's March 13th and still not check that was promised March 12th. Customer Service explained that a check cut on March 9th won't go until Monday March 16th and could not explain to me why a check cut on a Tuesday takes a week to leave your facility. Unfortunately, I've reached my breaking point and lost it on the phone and dropped f bombs. The sheer incompetence of this company is STAGGERING!!! I pray to God I never have another mortgage handle by you! I will immediately refinance with another company. You're untrustworthy and need to be shut down and at the very least should not be allowed to service VA Loans. The VA is my next stop because no way they should be screwing over veterans like this. Shame shame on this company. I set auto payment with my bank to keep myself at peace. However, after a few months successfully paying them, they started to increase my monthly payment for a couple dollars more due to changes in escrow amounts. I wasn't aware of this to adjust with my bank. They started to return my payment each month due to the difference in the amount. I only realized the return after 2 months and attempted to pay online but was unable to pay. I also called them and paid over the phone. The lady who helped me on the phone said she couldn't process the full amount that was past due and can only process one month due. The payment went through however, they returned the money a week later because it wasn't the exact amount past due (2 months plus late fees). I was frustrated and furious and called them again, still their staff didn't know what was going on and wasn't able to help with the payments. After a long period of frustration, they told me I have to send in a cashier check for the due amount the next 12 consecutive months. RIDICULOUS. I wish I had never have anything to do with this company. read more

I wrote this with caution, as I do not use words like this often or with carelessness. Cenlar is the single most difficult company I have encountered in all my years. Call in yourself, in an attempt to accomplish a single task. Odds are, different phone representatives will provide you conflicting information. This happen to me to the point I called in 8x in one week for a simple statement to be sent, and every single rep providing different dates and instructions. It takes weeks to receive simple requests, and they must be done via snail mail or fax. These requests are processed by a department you are not allowed to speak with, so if they messed up or you have a nuanced request, good luck. I imagine the training these representatives receive is akin to my training in brain surgery. I have none. If you can avoid using Cenlar for any business you may have, you'll be doing yourself a favor. Companies this poor should not exist. read more

I continue to wait for any meaningful response to a request for a copy of my note. Today I received two emails: The first email said that they had been trying to call but couldn't get a response so they requested my cell -- I still did not receive a phone call from them. The second email said "I am currently working on pulling your mortgage note." Review my review below and other reviews. This company is unable to give you a copy of your note. If you need to refinance - CENLAR's actions do not demonstrate a reliable process. If it is so difficult to get a note, imagine what happens if you have actual financial transactions involved. I paid off my Cenlar loan at the beginning of January. At the end of January, they inappropriately stole money from my bank account. They told me they sent me a refund. They did not. I call again and again and again. Nick Zelensky, the manager, told me via one of their reps that he would call me back and arrange for a new check to be sent. Nothing. No check. No phone call. I called again. Nick Zelensky refused to talk to me again and again, through his rep, he told them he'd call back back and arrange to send the check via Fedex or another overnight service. Nothing. Their phone number doesn't work half the time, they don't ever call you back (seriously), and their assumptions department is a complete joke. The website is a giant heap of junk. But the worst part about the entire experience with them is that when I was getting to the end of my loan assumption process they sold it again! Absolutely avoid Cenlar if you can! I have had two mortgages serviced by Cenlar and they have been the worst service providers I ever worked with. They will over charge on escrow, when you bring it to their attention they essentially say "oh well, pay the revised payment or we'll report it to your credit" I tried to refinance took them weeks to respond, went with another provider instead at it was mere days. Similar to someone else in the comments, I have asked for a payoff statement to be sent to my lawyers. Aside from the payoff statement, the process also requires a FREEZE LETTER to be sent to I have been talking to Cenlar's representatives for hours before today (hours included to hold as well) about them sending this freeze letter but nothing has been done. Today, our lawyer called and said that Cenlar has not sent the freeze letter yet. The closing on our home sale is today. My family and I are currently living in a HOTEL, counting on the closing being today so the money in escrow can be released. We need this letter IMMEDIATELY. The main line's phone number is not letting me connect with anyone, as their Holiday Out of Office message is still on from the long weekend. Please, Cenlar, please give us a miracle. Our mortgage was also transferred from Citibank to Cenlar . From the first time we made our first payment, it has been a hassle. I don't think Cenlar cares about their customers. We made a double payment and specified to apply extra towards our principal. They applied the extra payment towards the next month instead. That took two months and several calls to get straightened out. We just paid off our mortgage and Cenlar cashed our check but wont apply the payment till we pay their statement prep fees. I do remember that Citibank sent out a notice that they were transferring our account to Cenlar. If I had known about Cenlars professional abilities or lack of , I would have found another way to keep our mortgage at Citibank. read more

My rating is a zero 0. I have a mortgage with them and I am an excellent customer. Having a dispute regarding payments has proven they do not care about their faulty practices. After speaking to at least 15 representatives, I the problem hasn't been resolved. They tell you to resolve your issues with their research department but there isn't a phone number to call. I am dealing with incompetence. This isn't how a financial institution should be allowed to conduct business. I would not recommend working with them. read more

Yes. Like the others said. The worst service in the industry. They bought my loan with others from Citi when I had 3 payments to go. The first automatic payment withdrawal was 12 days late. The 2nd one was on time. The 3rd payment, and the last did not happen on time. & 7 days after the payment date I called. She said the automatic withdrawal did not happen because it was my last payment, I had to go to my bank and perform a wire transfer to them for my last payment. At my cost of course. Could not get an answer out of them why Cenlar never mentioned that to me. I guess they want to hit me with some late fees as a parting gift. I hope they don't screw up my last payment. Like all the others, I would give zero stars if I could. Up until Jan 13, 2022, my dealings with them were minimal and almost nonexistent given I had set up autopay and never had to talk to anyone as long as my payments were rolled out. Cut to January when I decided I want to sublet out my co-op apt. My building requires a Letter of Consent from the lender. This is basically a note saying "Yes, we grant the shareholder permission to sublet the apartment." Seems fairly easy, right? For Cenlar, it's been like asking them to go to the moon and back. Like others before me, I have called and sent countless messages through their messaging portal and I always get the same idiotic run through - "could you please hold?" Anywhere from 10-15 minutes I'm on hold and then they are back and with promises of getting the letter to me within a few days, I never hear from them and go through the same process of calling and being placed on hold and nothing ever happening. Jan 13 - I first request the letter online Jan 18 - I get a reply! They're "working on it" Feb 2 - I follow up as I've received nothing Feb 4 - they're "so sorry" for the delay but they're working on it! Allow 3 business days Feb 14 - I call - "where is the letter?" It got delivered to you. I check my spam - yay! There it is. But it was a false hooray because it is NOT the letter I asked for. I call again - The way i was doing it (online) was incorrect. I am told I need to now send a letter to a MAILING address or fax them. Who has a fax these days? I ask for an email or phone # - "nope, there is none" I ask why it took them a month to tell me that this was the route. "Shrug". I send the letter off with the rep assuring me 3-5 business days is all it takes. I also send a message to the online system asking why their reps have given me misinformation Feb 16 - I get a message saying "sorry for your frustration!" No help. Feb 22 - I call back. WHERE IS THE LETTER I ask nicely but shouting in my head. One woman hangs up on me. The second woman puts me on hold for 10 minutes and says "my supervisor says they'll try to expedite it to you via email." I'm not hopeful but I thank her. Feb 25 - I call. Where is the letter, I ask? And listen to this.. the last rep I speak to says "I see here in notes that on Feb 22, a notation was made that the request must be sent to an address" I answer - I already did that on the 14th. She says "no, it's a different address". What the ACTUAL fuck. I ask her "so I've basically been told several different things. I don't mean to take this out on you but what is actually going on?" She has no idea but assured me that I can send the letter but says to wait 2-3 weeks. I DONT HAVE 2-3 WEEKS. I don't know how this company is operating. I am frustrated beyond words. I don't know what to do. I need this one letter. I'm going to mail my request to the address I received today but I know in 2 weeks time I'll receive nothing, air, false hopes and dreams. read more

The letter Citibank sent me assured me the autopay would stay in effect and I had nothing to worry about. After my loan switched I received a call from a collections officer about my payment not being received so immediately tried explaining the autopay situtation. What a joke!!! These people seriously are low lever debt collectors. We deserve better. Shame on you Citibank for not doing your homework prior to selling me off to a bunch of losers. After hours and days of dealing with these idiots I finally got logged on and made a $10,000.00 payment the day after Cenlar drafted another payment for $10,000.00. Stay away from this lender. Their customer service is beyond horrible. The wait to speak to a customer rep is outrageously long and even if you are connected, they would place you on many "brief" holds to find answers to simple questions that would take at least 20-30 mins. Most of the calls then get dropped or hang up. Reps are incompetent and need training. I even got yelled at by one of the reps. I just have common questions on how to pay off my small remaining balance on my loan. Instructions were very unclear and reps couldn't help. So I logged in online to check for a payoff "quote". Beware, each time you check the payoff quote, that will incur a $30 charge without telling you upfront or agreeing to it. If you want to run the quotes on different payoff dates/months, you will then be charged $30 each time. This all happened without you knowing that each mouse click would cost you $30. This is ridiculous and very bad business practice. No one is willing to look further into this for me and the issue is still unresolved. Bottom line - be aware of unethical business like this, and don't use this lender. I would give them negative stars if that's an option. read more

So they are still an awful company. I was able to get the VA involved who swiftly informed them that they could not foreclose on my property after a single missed payment. The VA found within 28 days of missed payment they had already set up an auction date. While in the process of fixing this they technically auctioned my house. The VA reversed the sale and while the VA I and I spent nearly three months fighting them they tried twice more to sell my property. Thankfully I had the VA to back me up and save my home. I wonder how many people haven't been as lucky. Refinance your home if you are unfortunate enough to get stuck with this horrid company. Cenlar is absolutely terrible. I have never chosen to work with Cenlar, but two of my mortgages were sold to them. Cenlar made repeated billing errors, and it's never been in my favor. Cenlar has repeatedly been unable to provide accurate year-end tax statements and regular monthly statements. I hoped it was just a temporary problem during the transition of my loan, and that they'd get things straightened out, but it's been like this for years now, and has grown significantly worse. read more

My mom paid off her house in 2020 and 2 years later, they are saying she owes over $10,000 because the rep didn't apply as a "payoff" rather a "regular payment." My mom is about to file a lawsuit, they have been horrible to work with. DO NOT USE THEM!
