We had Cenlar for about 8 years and we paid the loan/house off April of 2021. Since then it has nothing but hassle with them. They all seem to be "work" at home reps when you call and they know as much about how to service a mortgage as they know about brain surgery. I can not even get a simple letter of satisfaction from them as they state they no longer service our loan. I KNOW THAT AS I PAID THEM IN FULL. Can't understand why they can't send a letter or even speak like they have any idea of what it means to have a loan paid off. Horrible. We have had a mortgage for 16 yrs now. Never once been late. Until now. Cenlar returned our check because the mortgage went up 50$ and we weren't notified. "we don't accept short payments" is what they said when we finally found an email address for them. They are extremely difficult to get ahold of. I would never recommend this company. Currently today, I have been on HOLD with customer service for 2 hours and 23 minutes to simply make a mortgage payment. This company has caused me to almost lose my home numerous times because they have misplaced funds, applied other mortgage holders payments to my account and vice versa and much more! What a zero. I had an issue logging into the website due to an upgrade Cenlar made that they failed to tell customers about. Unfortunately this happened on a weekend. Unfortunately also Cenlar does not have any customer service available on a weekend. This necessitated a payment by phone, for which they charged me $2. Small, I know, but I want a refund. After 20 min on hold, a representative answered. I gave him my information and he put me on hold again while he "looked up my account." I was then transferred and am now back in the queue waiting for customer service. It is now 30 min. If I wasn't multi-tasking, I would have had to hang up already. Honestly, it isn't worth the time, but I guess they are counting on that so that they can charge you $2 every time they do website maintenance. We just had our Citibank HELOC transferred to Cenlar. The first mailed statement we received (a month after making a payment) shows a time period with extra days, a higher monthly payment, and conflicting due dates - and the entire previous payment was credited to principal; no interest was paid. Telephone wait times are wasted hours. A little research shows that Cenlar is involved in over 80 lawsuits, most as the defendant. We are in the process of refinancing locally. read more

Having Cenlar as my mortgage servicer was so painful! It took them 3 months, about 6-8 times of sending them the Budget Draft form via email and help from a customer service rep to get the program started. I started the process by filling out the form in June and it was finally started on 9/4 with the first payment. In October, they sent me a letter that said they did not have my homeowner's insurance information on file. Alarmed because this is done at closing, and I know that the insurance company has their information as the servicer and will send them the declarations page for the policy. While the letter was mailed via USPS, they made 2 (yes 2) payments to the insurance company, yes the insurance company that they said they didn't have their information. Both payments made on 10/13 and 10/14 from my escrow account and both for $1958.99. The next problem is because of the double insurance payments, they say that I am now $300 short on my escrow account and have raised my house payment to cover this. Of course they sent the payment coupon/letter explaining the shortage, and according to the letter I am $398.00 short, not the $300 that I was told. My new payment according to this letter is $10 less than my original payment. But they raised my payment that is drafted out of my account. After several calls and being told by the customer service reps that my payment has been stopped and that my last house payment was on 10/31. They both confirmed that no more payments will be taken out. Ok. So my next payment taken out on 11/13, even though I was told no more payments. In the process they have received final payoff information and confirmed that they have received this information. Now I have to watch and wait a month to get back all of my money!! This company has been the absolute worst I've ever dealt with- extremely unorganized and can not get an answer from ANYONE. I have called 4 separate times due to my escrow being double charged in insurance, I have not gotten one person to help me with the issue. I wish I could give 0 stars to this god awful company. They owe me over $5k in escrow money after the sale of my home. The first check miraculously got lost in the mail. Instead of issuing a new check, all of their customer service reps keep saying wait another few days. It's been 2 months since we closed now and the check was issued a month ago. They are located in NJ, it shouldn't take a month to get to NY. They don't even post the phone number on their website. All I want is my money and they are claiming it will take another month to get it in my hands. Not to mention, they hang up on customers all the time. After finding the CEO and CFOs email, I emailed them for help. I ended up getting a voicemail from someone from their corporate office who told me to call him back. Guess what?! He doesn't return calls or answer the phone either. I'm getting a lawyer involved. I let the CEO and CFO know in my email and they didn't even respond. Stay away from these scum. read more

Our CitiMortgage was transferred, like many others, to Cenlar FSB as of 4/2019. I was able to set up our account with Loan Administration and pay directly from our Citibank account online seamlessly. However, then I got an alert today that our FICO score dropped 20-30 points from two credit bureaus and my Equifax personal score dropped 50 points, from excellent to good. The only reason reported was the lack of a mortgage loan and insufficient information. Considering that both Citibank and Cenlar show our balance correctly, it makes no sense that CitiMortgage can show our loan on the credit bureaus as "transferred or sold" (accurate) but now we have no loan and no history of continued payment because of this process (inaccurate). A supervisor at Cenlar named Jason told me to open a credit dispute with the credit bureaus and their team, because our "score is supposed to not show the transfer as the loan being closed" but that there's some federal regulation that they can't report info for 60-90 days. Is that even true? Are we reported as a "new loan" and our credit score stays lower than it was before the transfer? Jason basically told me to just send a dispute to their general email with my credit report and evidence of change in score. Somehow I don't have confidence that anything will get done by them. And CitiMortgage now says it's Cenlar's responsibility. Bottom line is that apparently I as a consumer may have higher interest rates and less issue to pursue refinancing because of this "loan servicing" unless I can get the mortgage correctly reported to show our four and a half years of consistent payment continuing on a existing account. Citimortgage transferred my loan to Cenlar FSB. I was told there's no action needed from me as I had automatic payment process set up and Citi is just gonna transfer that to Cenlar. My payment has been delayed for a week already. I scheduled an additional payment manually just in case Cenlar and citi messed up my automatic payment. Still didn't draw my payment yet... Tried to call Cenlar and I got automatically hang up on when the system transfer me to a representative and was told the person/contact number I tried to reach doesn't exist or discontinued the service..... I'm so worried that my credit score is gonna get screwed due to their own fault in the delay/error of transferring data. And I'm starting to worry about my house too after reading all those bad reviews they have. I'm really hoping that this issue can be resolved soon. I don't want my house to show up on the auction/foreclosure list because they don't draw my payment... Follow up review: I called Cenalr again. After waiting for about 15min, I was finally transferred to a representative. The conversation was clear. I was told that my payment was already scheduled at a later date. Now on Oct 14 they have all the payment listed as misapplication reversal and I show 80 days late and the entire balance of the payments is sitting is "suspense balance." When I did speak to some one, three different people told me they did not know what I was talking about. A nightmare come true. Never resolve a problem. Two years asking for them to adjust (reduce) my escrow after I reduce my property taxes for two years in a row, 2019 and 2020. Countless phone calls, sent faxes with documentations, finally they asked me to update documents in a specific email address. NOTHING CHANGED. But to raise my escrow they don't ask me questions, three times in the two years that I am with CENLAR they raised my mortgage payments because they had NOT ENOUGH MONEY on ESCROW!!!!! I set up auto pay and they deducted my payment 2 weeks early causing a negative balance, not to mention all the overdraft fees. I called, waited about an hour, only to be told I didn't set up auto pay. I couldn't believe it. They wouldn't reverse the payment nor help with causing overdraft fees. We did a renovation on our house and we increased our homeowners policy accordingly, resulting in a small increase in our premium. I called Cenlar 2 weeks before the due date to see if they would be paying it and they said they must wait for our homeowner policy insurer to let them know the amount and that I should not pay the bill myself. I found out today, on the due date, that the insurance co expected me to pay, which I ultimately did. I called Cenlar to ask why they weren't paying out of my escrow and they chastised me for not being more proactive with my insurance co. Cenlar said that is was my responsibility to make them send the bill to the mortgage co. The insurance co said all mid year payments are typically paid by the owner - not by the mortgage company. Original mortgage from Jan 1988 was sold to Citibank. In 2005 we took out an equity line with them. The original mortgage was paid off in 2007. In November 2019 the equity line was transitioned to CENLAR by CitiBank. In July 2021 we wanted to pay off the equity line. We increased our payments to bring the balance down, CENLAR blocked us from making online payments and automated phone payments. We had to speak to a representative to make final payments over the phone and make the loan balance zero. The last 2 payments were applied to ESCROW, which we didn't have since this was an equity loan. Multiple calls were required to clear that up. They provided no explanation as to why they did that. We requested a payoff statement from CENLAR. In the payoff statement they included a charge for Corporate Advance of $12,723.54. This charge was never provided on any statements, on the 2019 and 2020 1098 Tax form, or credit reports for other loans, etc. Not included in the 2021 1098 which states the balance due on the loan as zero. We have asked numerous times for explanation of the charges, but CENLAR stated it was for flood and hazard insurance with no evidence. We sent them a letter from State Farm in which they state we had insurance from 1987 date of contract to purchase the house continuously thru the time they falsely charge us for force placed insurance. Every time we speak with them, we get a different answer, different amounts and contradicting information. Is it ethical for a company to send out statements with one balance then have a hidden fee they expect you to pay with no documentation or proof they paid for these duplicate wasteful charges on your behalf? Seems like fraud to me. Now they want proof of current flood insurance even though the loan balance is zero and the equity line of credit is technically closed; we cannot draw from it. We have been dealing with this nightmare since June 2021. CENLAR is extremely difficult to deal with and customer service is useless to help. If your loan gets transferred to CENLAR, get another lender ASAP. Worst company we have ever dealt with. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CENLAR, you have been warned! read more

Even though I confirmed with them the correct account number to pay off the loan. +++++ If your mortgage company sells your loan to this company, RUN and find another institution! Customer services is horrible. We went through hoops to pay our loan off. My husband obtained the pay off amount and wire instructions. So, on my lunch, I went to our bank to take care of the wire transfer. Since I'm not on the loan, Cenlar would not accept a wire transfer because I was the one who went to the bank, even though the receipt sent to Cenlar only had his name on it, not mine. This company is not displaying a very good first impression. They recently took over my mother's mortgage from Citi (only 2 months!). First, they had a notice on the website account interface stating a payment was missed and due immediately, but checking my mother's checking acct statement, it had been PAID to them. This was confusing for my mother, a senior, thinking that she had missed a payment (until I checked her statement with her).
