So frustrated with this company. I tried to set up an escrow account in July and they misapplied my escrow payment to principle. I called to alert them of this mistake and they "reversed" the payment; however, they did not then apply the money to the escrow. Wells Fargo sold both of my mortgages to Cenlar. They have disappointed me from the very beginning. From their horrible phone tree system to their antiquated, lowest bid website, there is zero user experience. But what choice to we have as homeowners? We suffer with this garbage system but I'm sure the banks that sell our mortgages save big. Business must be great for cenlar since every single time I call, their call volume is "higher than expected". Maybe they should start expecting heavier call volumes? read more

Bank sold our line of credit to CENLAR, not happy with the bank's decision on that one as well. Thankfully we just finished paying off the loan the week before the sale, I am glad we don't have to deal with them based on these other reviews. We wanted to close the account but now had to go through CENLAR to close it. Easy? Nope. We can't just close it we have to FAX (who faxes still, it's such a pain) and get a cashiers check (they wanted a wire but that costs another $25 at our bank) which is another pain because we have to go out with Covid-19 running amok. No personal checks, no online payments. The cost to close this account is $125, for doing absolutely nothing and making it difficult to even close. This company is trash. read more

Every person I speak to tells me something different. They seem to have the most archaic system, you can't get a hold of a human on the weekend. I have been in contact with Cenlar since March 10th when I informed them that a payment was made to them in error as my account was already paid in full. I was told that they could not find the money which was $3,000.00. I then verified with my bank and my bank stated that the money was sent electronically. My bank even provided a debit trace number along with a copy of my bank statement showing that money was already taken. I provided the debit trace number to Cenlar and was told that someone was looking into this and the issue is set to be resolved on April 7th. I was perplexed at how long it would take a company to refund money that is NOT due to them when all the information they needed was already there. I am late on other payments that needed to be made and my account was overdrawn for nearly 2 weeks. So of course I send emails requesting for follow up status but to no avail. So, i call in and speak to different representatives all the time who tell me "they don't show the money being received" and I have to tell them to read through all their notes because Cenlar has the money I just need to know when I would get it back. My bank already spoke to Cenlar last week and Cenlar told them that the money would be in my account on 3/29. I followed up with Cenlar on 3/30 and I was back to square one where they are telling me that they didn't recieve the money. Luckily I was able to talk to the same supervisor that handled my call the last time and she tried to get me an answer but even she herself got the same answer "the money was never received" but luckily she know which direction she needed to go and who to ask. I still didn't get resolution. I did however, provide Cenlar with a copy of the actual check.. perhaps this will help them to find it sooner. Now if the situation was reversed and I was late on my payment, I would be charged late fees which I have to pay. In addition, I feel like Cenlar is holding on to my money which they probably have in an account that allows them to collect interest. Do you think I would get a share of that pie? Probably not. There should be some type of law on how long a company is able to hang on to money that doesn't belong to them. I still don't understand how different departments cannot communicate properly with one another. I've pleaded several times to let them know that i have other bills to pay and now my mortgage payment is due with the new lender. Still there is no sense of urgency to get this resolved, rather, they would just like to keep telling me that it is set to have a resolution by April 7th. Very disappointing. Spoke to numerous representatives telling me I had all the documents needed for my application. Called week after week to be proactive and double check and was assured it was complete and just waiting on underwriting. This week I called again to find out my application was closed because of missing documents. I'm completely frustrated and outraged as I did everything I could to make sure the application was complete. I requested to speak to a supervisor and have not heard anything. This is ridiculous. I found out I cann't made a payment for my car loan in Chase bank. then I create an account in Cenlar to check it because they keep sent me a letter. Cenlar have all my information including my debit card. They set the account as auto payment without my permission. I usually pay $640 per month and now I need to pay $780. Cenlar charge my money but Chase bank and Subaru send me a letter say I didn't make the payment. Is it call cheat? I call Cenlar today but they are close. Just changed my review from 1 to 3 stars. After posting a negative review on yelp, I was contacted almost immediately and my issue is now solved. Obviously, it's better if you don't have to post a negative review to get help, but the help is appreciated nonetheless! Terrible customer service... We just got a HELOC that is being serviced by them and I was trying to register for the online system to make payments. I kept getting error messages, so I went to the help chat. The service rep, Karena Bell, kept saying, "You are not in the system" (which is of course WHY I was reaching out for help). She said it so many times I actually had to ask if she was a real person or automated response. I continued to try to get more info to get help signing up, and she just wrote "You are not in the system. Contact your loan officer." Then she hung up on me. Wow. My home loan was transferred to these low-lifes only weeks after purchasing my house. Found out just now that for an entire year Cenlar failed to pay county taxes out of my escrow (along with other mandatory fees). Now a new mortgage company (who bought my loan from Cenlar) is raising my monthly payment $300 a month, which I cannot afford to pay. IF you have more than one back account, good luck trying to pay your mortgage...every time you satisfy one step, they request another round of documents which they didn't tell you before. Onto our 4th round now--they are requiring that we we walk into a bank to request proof of our account on letterhead. WHAT? I haven't been inside a bank in over 15 years...oh wait, and COVID policy? Okay I'm so glad that I found this platform to vent about these people. I have to deal with cenlar concerning my elderly father's mortgage for a few years now. Every few months there's some incident like today. Calling in to make his mortgage payment for the third day in a row, I am met with an automated voice saying that they are not able to route calls today please try again later. We are also unable to access the company through their website. So now having to make a late payment through the snail mail, I'm sure that I will be facing late charges. I just don't understand how a professional company dealing with people's mortgage payments can get away with being this inept. it's astonishing that these people are in still business. On my worst days when I have to deal with them, I literally have found myself praying to God above that they will shut these people down for good, sparing other people the misery and heartache that these people have brought my me and my family. I only wish that there was an option to leave no stars they deserve negative everything. my instincts tell me that they intentionally make it difficult to contact them so that they can collect late fees from people.... these people are the ABSOLUTE worst!!!!!!!!! Most loan servicers do the same thing, Cenlar does those basic things (bill, accept payments, process them pay taxes, insurance, etc.). However, I had a fairly simple question and customer service is all but non-existent. The agent on the phone could/would not answer the question and directed me to their messaging through my account. It took six weeks to get a reply. The reply did not address the question and said 'resolved'. No chance for a follow up, no chance to ask a person a VERY simple question. My Mortgage was sold to Cenlar by Citi Mortgage, after the sale of my property and repayment of my loan in full on 02/10/2020, I'm still waiting for the return of nearly $3,000 in escrow, more than 2 months later. I have sent numerous emails, spoken to three different people in customer service and still have no funds returned, or a clear path to that happening. I'm advised a check was issued for the refund in early March, to my correct mailing address, this never arrived. A call to the customer service desk tells me it takes 15 days for Cenlar to cancel said check and re-issue another, a month later I call back to be advised that no new check was sent due to an error, I get it, human error can happen. That said, I'm still 2 months without badly needed funds and there is no mechanism for this refund to be wired / ACH transferred and I'm back to waiting another 15 days for Cenlar to process another check? If I was two months late with a mortgage payment, what would this situation look like? I never like leaving poor reviews, but my frustration with Cenlar is such that I feel that others need to use caution with Cenlar. read more

Nightmare! I've been dealing with Cenlar going back 5 plus months of sending in documents they are requesting. Every time I've called in the answer is different. I want to be fair and give them the benefit of the doubt however, it is not possible to rate them high if I have not received any assistance. Note: adding a star because Eric has been very helpful with giving me some contact information and helping me avoid wasted time trying to reach the wrong department. The resolution to my inquiry is still unknown so I'll wait and see. I understand they are very busy. Update 9/15/20: Still no response from the Cenlar Recast (Mortgage Modification) department. Sent my info to them a while ago. I managed to reach a phone rep and she stated I should receive a letter with information regarding the recast letting me know if they can do it and what the new payment amount would be. UPDATE- I wish it didn't take a negative review to get things done with this company.. but albeit, it did. Regardless, after over a year total in battling with them, one person ACTUALLY doing what they say they would do is not enough to change my 1 star for the company as a whole. However that person would get 5 stars if I were able to review them individually. Bottom line is that someone needs to seriously reevaluate the entire operation as whole. I did get my payoff from the nice person who contacted me as a result of this review.. but ALL OTHER avenues that promised to get my payoff to me have yet to do so and probably will fall off unanswered and unresolved. Thank you to the team who handles the "resolutions" - you are the only people who seem to have a helpful bone in your body. Original review- It's a shame that I have to leave even one star for a company that doesn't even deserve that. Absolute unbelievable and criminal experience with CENLAR from start to finish. I was 24 when both of my parents died who were HELOC holders with Citi, which sold to CENLAR. When my parents died I went through probate and all the appropriate channels to handle their affairs. We do not come from money, but I wanted to do things the right way so I sent my court documentation to both mortgages with intent to take them both over and either refinance or sell the house. I had MULTIPLE representatives tell me that the HELOC was not my responsibility to pay on behalf of my parents and that the debt would be charged off. I had heard this with creditors multiple times as well.. so of course I went ahead and trusted that this was the case and did not pay. A year goes by and I find out that CENLAR has moved my home into "ACTIVE FORECLOSURE"?!?! I try to call and get this taken care of but they claim I am not authorized to speak on the loan. I send them my probate paperwork, they claim they never got it. I send it a second time, certified mail.. again weeks go by and they claim they never got it. I SEND THIS PAPERWORK AGAIN AND AGAIN THROUGH FAX, EMAIL AND CERTIFIED MAIL.. and FINALLY after nearly a year of battling with them, they finally authorize me on the account after hundreds of hours spent fighting and sitting on hold. I have had representatives tell me beyond idiotic things such as "a last will and testament is null and void after someone's death" - seriously???? I have two attorneys on this and both of them claim that CENLAR is one of their biggest pains in the industry. Both say that they should be shut down. Fast forward to present day - due to the foreclosure I have been forced to sell my home. CENLAR has tacked on thousands of dollars in late and legal fees on the monthly statements. I am ONE WEEK out from closing and have requested a payoff statement for WEEKS. My title company has inquired on my behalf, I have inquired and been told it would be sent email and snail mail.. never gotten it.. I am beyond appalled at my experience with this company. Absolute nightmare and I cannot believe this company is allowed to operate in this manner. There are multiple families hanging in the ballast of the sale of this home and CENLAR is the ONLY obstacle as the first mortgage and every other hurdle has been easily navigated. I am hoping legal action is enough to push this through and I can be DONE with this company forever. Avoid them like the plague if at all possible. read more

Terrible Morgage company!!!! I have been trying to get a Payoff Letter from this company for about 6 months. Every time I call they put me on hold and I spent my entire lunch hour waiting for them to tell me that someone will call me back or that I need to provide more documents. This is my parents' house. They passed away approx. 3 years ago and left the house in a trust with my name as the trustee. I have provided the TRUST and the DEED showing the house in the Trust and my name as the Trustee. The first time I sent the DOcuments by certified mail. When I called in follow-up, they did not have the documents. How do you lose documents that were sent by certified mail? I then sent the documents by Fax TWICE, 1 month apart. No response, No Payoff Letter. Meanwhile, they continue sending me Delinquency letters for the property taxes that they are paying. All calls turn into an hour wait with no response. SO FRUSTRATED!!! It's time to call a lawyer. read more

Well, another bad issue with CENLAR. They informed me, that during the end of a pandemic that they calculated my mortgage escrow incorrectly and I have a $6,000 escrow shortage. Without warning, they dramatically increased my mortgage with no support and then, when we sent in the request to have the escrow cut and we will take responsibility, we received no response. Two months now and two insanely high payments with no help. read more

It seems as though the individuals in the insurance verification department are incompetent and unable to read/interpet/understand insurance documents. My agent submitted a copy of my policy which shows that I have complete coverage with no lapse. But I received several letters indicating that my coverage was insufficient. My agent sent another copy. I followed up CENLAR's customer customer service rep who said the fax was received and that the error would be corrected. But, I received a letter shortly afterwards saying that CENLAR had forced placed insurance on my account. I immediately placed a call to 843-413-7133 and asked to speak to a supervisor. The call was transferred to Michelle McQueen, who informed me that their system does not show any receipt of the fax. My husband then faxed the policy over to the fax number Ms. McQueen provided, 843-413-7133 but only to get, RESULT: No Answer. They do not provide you with an email or a direct phone number, you just have to start over every time with the customer service rep. Or they direct you to look up your account on-line. I DON'T WANT TO GO ONLINE! You provided me a 1-800 number and I choose to use it, thank you. So here I am, waiting for the fax to go through, some how, some way, and waiting for the next letter saying my mortgage payment increased as a result of thier ineffeciencies. We've been in the process of refinancing our home since June. We've accrued three late fees in the process due to an error in paperwork. All we are waiting for, and have been since June is one note. We call EVERY SINGLE DAY and every time we get no where. Occasionally we speak to someone who sounds a little more knowledgeable than the other 100 reps we've spoken to at this point, but still, we haven't received the note. We've received every other piece of paper imaginable, dozens of times, but now what we need. Today, we received a notice that they will be UPPING our payment. Nothing on their end goes through any kind of check/balance system; sounds like absolutely no one knows what's going on. I can't wait to get out from under this lender... however I'm not sure how we ever can without this note. If I could give this company a minus 100 I would. I am considering taking legal action because their mistake caused my credit rating to go down over 100 points. Because off their mistake, the autopay didn't work. That caused my payment to be late and as a result, they reported my account delinquent to the credit agencies! As soon as I found out about this last week, I paid up and made sure the autopay is back on, but the delinquency still hasn't been taken off my record. I am about to apply for a home loan, so this is a very serious issue for me. By the way, they did call and left a message for me and I tried to call back several times but after being on hold for more than a half hour each time, I gave up. The most incompetent group with extremely punitive policies. First, their forbearance is a joke. They will allow you to skip three months of payments; BUT, you owe the entire amount in a lump at the end of the three months. How is this helpful? Second, my fixed loan payment has increased. How on earth is that possible??? Finally, their online payment system blocks out weekends and holidays so you incur penalties, even when paying before the fifth of the month. Well... the saga continues! After harassing this company weekly, I was lied to several times about where my money was. The County had issued the refund check, Cenlar had deposited the check according to the County, yet mysteriously our Escrow remained in the negative for almost 2 months. I called weekly and was told that they hadn't received the money, which I knew was a lie, and finally after a month they confirmed they had it but it would take 3-5 business days to post to our account. It took about 3 more weeks in reality and I'm convinced that if I hadn't called repeatedly it would have mysteriously disappeared. It scares me what they must get away with when it comes to people who don't pay as much attention as I do, or maybe an elderly person who isn't aware. But here we are again... they sold our loan to Freedom Mortgage which I was ecstatic about in July and everything has been running smoothly... until tax season. Cenlar isn't even our company anymore but they some how are still managing to screw us. Today we received a new escrow analysis stating that our monthly payment will be going up on October 1st due to an escrow shortage because our new company is under the impression our taxes cost about 2.5k more than they really do. This is not Freedom Mortgages fault. All the loan documentation they received shows that Cenlar paid almost 4K to our County taxes last year (because they stupidly overpaid them even though they had the updated bill) and none of the paperwork shows that this happened and that the County issued them a refund check. Freedom Mortgage has been very kind and went on the County website to retrieve new appropriate data to fix this issue immediately which I am extremely grateful for... but Cenlar needs to be held accountable for their constant screw ups. I caution everyone to steer clear of Cenlar at all costs... even when you think you're rid of them, you're not. :( read more

Now they are asking for payment and our bank confirmed the mortgage payment went off. They have messed up our mortgage payments, we are paying $600 more on our mortgage than with AmeriHome. This company got off to a bad start with me. They ended up charging my account for a fee they weren't supposed to. They took the money out of an account we don't use anymore. It was an account they were authorized to use once for our escrow payment a year before. They had very updated account info. I called them on it. Caused 3 overdrafts and when I called them they were less than helpful. Not on here making a compliant because I got behind on my mortgage and just mad because they want their money. NEVER MISSED A PAYMENT, never was late. We refinanced with another company and loan servicer. In the end this company sent back all of our escrow fees, some of which we had no clue were owed. It is almost impossible to get a payoff demand on a rush. They would rather have a loan not fund and cancel then rush a payoff demand. I DONT think their investors would be to happy to know that they are loosing their money left and right.. If you call in to speak to a manager they could care less. Why would they its not their money. If I was an investor I would not let this company service my loans. I would give less than a star but can't... IF you are an investor looking for a servicer I would not trust this company. It is the employees. Hands down the worst company I have ever dealt with. I also wish that I could give negative stars. Our mortgage was transferred to Cenlar from CitiMortgage a few years ago and the payment was set up for autopay the entire time on a 30 year Conventional loan (to be paid off 2031) We had paid enough that we would have it paid off 8 years early if we paid the regular payment through next year. Then March 2022 comes and the automatic payment is taken out, 3 days later I receive what turns into the start of many calls from Cenlar telling me that we are late on our mortgage payment. I explained that we were not, I even double checked the bank account and everything was fine..the payment had been taken out. I explain this to the customer service rep and was told that she could see the payment was made and that it had been placed in "unsuspense". She explained that she would apply the payment and resolve the issue. WRONG!!! Fast forward to more calls where I spoke to numerous reps that talked in circles, were no help and would tell me that they could see the payment was made and that we were NOT late but each time it was never resolved. At one point I was told that we had a balloon note with Cenlar and that we would need to pay off the entire loan immediately and that they would no longer accept any payment, as the loan must be paid in full. We did NOT have a balloon note. It even stated very clearly on their site that we had a 30 year conventional loan that was to be paid in full as of November 2031. When I spoke to the next rep, I was told that they could see that it was not set up as a balloon note but that the loan had fallen below $5000; therefore we must pay the loan in full because they no longer accept payments once the loan falls below $5k. WHAT??!! Seriously the most absurd thing I have ever heard of. Fast forward again to April, where Cenlar now notifies the credit agencies that we are 30 days late WHEN WE ARE NOT! And our credit score takes a huge hit. I dispute this with Cenlar. Someone from Loan & Litigation contacts me to tell me how she is going to help and that she is extremely sorry for the way this account has been handled. She states that they are looking into correcting the 30-day late reporting that was sent to the credit agencies and commends us on being able to have our loan paid down much faster than the original 30 years. I explain that I am fed up with this company and had already gotten a loan to pay this off in order to get it out of Cenlar's incompetent hands and would be wiring the money later that day. She stated that she would make sure that the account was handled appropriately when I sent in the payoff and she would return my call the very next day to let me know that it was paid off and would hopefully have the 30-day late reporting corrected. I never received a call...SHOCKING!! Also, take the time to look up their reviews on the BBB site. They are no longer accredited because they fail to adhere to the BBB requirements. We were already in the middle of purchasing another home when all of this happened. Thankfully the bank that I was dealing with (NOT CENLAR), the loan officer had enough common sense to look at my documents and knew that the problem was Cenlar, not us. He told me that I needed to hire an attorney and sue. The loan is paid off now, I'm still battling the incorrect reporting to our credit and am hiring an attorney and filing a claim against Cenlar. Citi sold my mortgage to Cenlar and we refinanced it with another lender. Today is day 60 since the refinance. Cenlar owes me a refund for my escrot account + an autopayment that was made right before closing which they acknowledge. I called after 30 days to ask where my refund was and they told me it was in the mail but that it would take 15-20 days to reach me. I am not sure what postal service this company even uses. I could walk from New Jersey where Cenlar appears to be located to my house in 15-20 days. Today is day 60 and still no refund. Their customer service has not resolved this issue.I am really blown away. read more

I would not recommend this company to anyone. The stress that I've accumulated with this company is unreal. My monthly note was 936.00 a month. Our insurance policy was sold to another company who increased our monthly bill. My note went up to 1,355.00 a month. I then got a new more affordable insurance coverage to lower my monthly note dropping the amount from 4,600.00 to 3000.00 a year. This lowered my yearly note by 1600.00. However, my note then went up to 1,504.00 due to the fact that for two months now , Cenlar is charging my for both insurance policies. The one I cancelled and the new policy. I've called at least 15 times but nothing has been done to correct this. I have a 900 square ft house. I can not afford a 1500.00 a month house note nor should I have to pay that due to it being a mistake on Cenlar's part. I've never been so frustrated with a company in my life. I plan on going to the BBB as soon as I get home from work as well as my State attorney's office. I can not conceive how this company remains in business. Beware. His company is set up only to serve themselves. One example is that they don't provide email statements, or alerts before payment is due. All my other financial institutions do so, but for some reason they just can't seem to pull this together. I've submitted a complaint to the CFPB. There's only one reason why they would not do this, and it's because they want to collect late fees as often as possible. Dealing with Cenlar has been by far the WORST most difficult experience of not only the pandemic but in my life. Out of hesitation, I took advantage of the original Forbearance offered back on April of 2020 for 3 months. As soon as those 3 months were up, I called right away to see what my options were. I qualified for a FHA Partial Claim. Simple right? Nope, it literally has taken 9 months, and I am not exaggerating, about 150 phone calls to get them to send me the paper work and closing docs. They sent them in my maiden name, then never resent, and then promised they did and nothing. Almost every single day I tried to get answers and no one could help. I even in good faith made a payment because it was supposed to be processed and NOPE, once again not processed, applied that payment to the wrong month and more phone calls. No help. I even requested to speak to a HUD officer, thinking maybe they could help me navigate this mess, and again no one ever called!! I requested multiple times in 9 months for a manager, or supervisor to call me back. Never did that happen, untill January 15th. That's right, literally 6 months later I got a call. He was helpful, got me some answers. Finally got close to finishing this dumb claim. I get paperwork and return to them under 24 hours, and here we are almost 2 weeks since them and they STILL DON'T have my account updated!! I spend all of my Friday trying to get answers and nothing, multiple people tell me different things. I just need this done. It is affecting my credit before their reporting is so outdated and no one will transfer me to the credit department or simply give me straight answer. I just need one person who knows what they are doing to handle my account from start to finish. They have the money from the FHA, they have my payment and I am still held hostage by Cenlar because no one can do their job! read more

Impossible to get a hold of! I have called multiple times and sent them a message on their app with no replay. I sold my house and paid off the mortgage. Received a check in the mail from cenlar for my escrow account. And dumb me threw it away before I could deposit it. All I want to do is have them reissue a new one and I can't even get a hold of anyone. Doesn't even list their customer service hours on their website and every time I call, the message just says we are closed call back on the next business day. On Yelp says they are open until 6:00. I closed escrow in November 2015. Immediately my loan was sold and transferred to CENLAR. To me, this was no big deal as I am fully aware that loans get bundled and sold all the time, it's a normal process of the business. However, since then, it has been one issue after the next and the absolute WORST experience I have ever had with real-estate loans over the last 30 years! CENLAR has messed up my bi-monthly payment plan, my home owners/hazard insurance, my county taxes for land/home and my escrow account. So far I have had to call ever month to make sure everything is paying correctly and fix things they have messed up. I have to do all the faxing and follow-up as well cause CENLAR even messes all that up. I literally spend a couple of hours every month reviewing and ensuring everything is correct and fixing their inadequacies. I am basically doing their job for free to ensure my loan doesn't get messed up any more than CENLAR already has and continues to mess it up. One would think if your business is buying loans you would be competent enough to know, understand and manage the process. CENLAR and the employees that I have spoken to date with so far are by far the most incompetent, ignorant, and lazy people I have dealt with in business in a long time...in fact ever! I feel they don't care to understand the process or their job. That they are there to just answer a phone and push you along with ridiculous answers to get you off the phone for a paycheck. I wish there was another way to get my loan over to a company that is reputable without having to refinance and pay more fees, but there isn't. So, until I refinance, sell or this loan gets sold again; I will have to endure the excruciating calls every month to do their job they can't seem to simply do themselves that they get paid for. There truly should be a 0 star rating, because in my opinion CENLAR doesn't even deserve a 1 star! read more

BEWARE! Cenlar does not stand by their own payoff date the, "good through date"! They got paid in full by escrow,the amount given by Cenlar! I over paid an extra house payment on top of escrow paying them in full! Cenlar took the money after the loan was paid in full and closed! Cenlar deducted the over payment with no intention of refunding! How is this legal? This is what a payoff request is for!
