This place? Ick. To…read morestart, it might be called Stanford University Parking Structure 7, but when you type that into Google Maps, it shows you the way to Campus Drive Knight Management Center Garage. That mouthful is the official name of Parking Structure 7, which might be helpful to Stanford insiders who know where the Knight Management Center is, but I'm not a Stanford insider (thankfully), but I do deal with college locations and location names on a daily basis for my work, and I can tell you that Stanford is doing it wrong, because it should just be the Knight Center. You don't need to tell us what is taught there. It's not Wheeler English Hall on UC Berkeley's campus; it's just Wheeler Hall. But donors gonna give give give give give, so we have to name things after people who made their billions directly off the exploitation of sweatshop labor. What, I've got the wrong billionaire? Different day, same problem. The parking structure sucks. It's mysterious as to whether you have to pay. You do. Sometimes. If it's within certain hours. Finding a spot on a Sunday was harder than I thought, but there were other basketball-game parkers as well. But upon leaving? We had to wait almost forty-five minutes to go up one level because this place has the worst traffic-management and merging and exiting ever. OK, not ever, but it's really bad. So the entire time we're waiting in this line, I'm wondering whether I should have paid; maybe all these people are stopping to pay. Apparently, they weren't. It's just poor design. I read up on the actual process of paying for parking later, and you know what? There are no attendants and no machines. Nope, you have to download an app to pay. I realize that the world is changing, but there are still old people around who want to attend sporting events, concerts, movies, and plays. Stop forcing everyone to download your dumb app. Let people pay either way. Belt and suspenders, because society is already needlessly cruel, expensive, and stupid. Stanford makes plenty of money on tuition alone; they don't need to be charging exorbitant rates for food and drinks or parking at their games. Silicon Valley is sick, as in ill, as in I want to stay away from it and its machinations. Thanks for the free parking, Stanford! No thanks for wasting all the gas as I waited to get the French out of Parking Structure 7--I mean Campus Drive Knight Management Center Garage.

Well, it's a mixed bag. Parking Structure 7, located underneath the new Knight Management Center…read moreof Stanford's famed GSB, is a pretty great location, and tends not to fill up before other options in its area. It's across from Maples Pavilion, and right next to the sand volleyball courts and tennis courts... and oh yeah it's also right underneath GSB. And covered because it's underground. But... if you park there on a weekday between 6am and 4pm, you have to pay with a machine that steals money. The short version: DO NOT USE CASH WITH THE MACHINE AND IF YOU DO, DO NOT CANCEL YOUR TRANSACTION USING THE PAY PARKING MACHINE NO MATTER WHAT. It won't spit your money back to you, it'll literally print you out a receipt with a phone number to call to get a refund. (What? Now that it took my last $1.25 I'm going to call a number and have a check mailed to me? Fail.) I hope this machine isn't demonstrating a GSB-taught business model. Tricks like that only work if you screw someone who doesn't use Yelp. Boom.

The center is named after its benefactor, Sir Ka-shing Li, a Hong Kong investor, and philanthropist who has a net worth of nearly 40 billion dollars. The Center's mission is to foster " a unique confluence of cutting-edge medicine, modern teaching methods, and advanced technologies that will transform the way physicians and medical researchers are trained " The center which cost over $90 million dollars opened in 2010 and now serves as the headquarters for the School of Medicine As noted, the center is used for teaching, research, and has a large conference hall that can be booked for meeting as events. The lobby contains the Stanford Medical School Book Store as well as a small eatery. The 3 Story structure itself is quite imposing. It features floor to celling glass and a impressive red roof than overhangs the structure all the way to the adjacent discovery walk. The top floor has an outdoor eating area that allows an impressive view of the surround school and hospital. That being said unless you are a student or have business in the building the first floor and the architecture are about it. However it lies right on the Discovery Walk, near the Clark Center and Nexus eatery. In addition, the Hospitals, arboretum, Stanford Tomb, Cantor Art Museum etc are all within easy walking distance. In addition there are numerous outdoor art instalations to enjoy

They also offer free personal training sessions! Gym lockers (men and women's separate) have communal showers and plenty of locker space. The first floor has the two main lecture halls for the medical students as well as "med cafe"- see that entry on yelp for the full review of their menu items. The price is pretty much what you'd expect for a stanford on-campus cafe- pricey but useful to have when you're running between classes! There's also a stanford store on the first floor for swag. The second floor and third floor has additional space for classrooms and admin space. The second floor also has Berg hall where medicine grand rounds occurs as well as conferences and the medical student milestone events (part of white coat ceremony and the match day!)
