Our son is now 3.5 and has been attending ICRI since he turned 1. There has not been a day that has gone by that we regret putting him here. The school is fantastic and the teachers are simply wonderful. He comes home every day telling us how Teacher Linda did this for the kids or Teacher Zakia did that. He's never come home complaining about school and gets up excited to visit his friends. We've had schools in San Francisco finally call us back over the years but there was no way we were going to remove him from ICRI. It is a challenge when I travel for work as my wife works in SF but we make it work because we know he is getting the love and attention he deserves. I highly recommend giving ICRI a chance and would be more than happy to answer any questions.

They document everything, they document how many times they changed your child, if it was wet,dry or poop. They document when they eat and nap and they hand me this sleep every Friday so I can know about their entire week. It's up for display for me to see daily. I have shown up unannounced, many, many times as my schedule flexes and I have been there at nap time, they do rock not shake babies to sleep. My son does not enjoy being rocked, so they don't rock him. Both my children would extend their arms to their teachers, NOT an action I think they'd do had they been shaken or mistreated in any way. I agree, they do not have the fancy and frills but I know my children are safe, loved and cared for. Many actions show this as the teachers know my children's likes/dislikes, and I can tell by their actions they've learned to know my child, NOT just pacify them. My 5 year old started Kindergarten fully ready as Juneko and the other staff definately had her ready not only educational wise but emotionally, they had daily talks about what big school would be like. I needed that reinforcement. She also has the best memories there and loves to visit with her baby brother. I have become friends with other parents and many of them have had other children and they also have enrolled their children back in ICRI, NOT an action a family would do had their older child/ren been mistreated. I HAVE recommended ICRI to my coworker who started with his daughter, now has his son and soon his newborn son will also attend. He recommended to his friend, who also has a son there. I agree, this is one of Alameda's best kept secrets.

They learn and keep their skills up during the summer so when they return to school it's easy for them. This year we tried the week of science Museums and they visited a different museum everyday. They went to Academy of Science, Exploratorium, Zoo, etc. They loved it. What a wonderful program! Coach makes learning fun and really inspires our children to learn. His dedication to academics and particularly his focus on science and sports makes the program great. We highly recommend this program!!

She struggled at at the beginning but with the tips the lovely staff advice me to work at home with her( I asked for advice as I'm a first time parent) it worked like a charm. Within two months she made an outrageous change in her discipline and shared with others. She would even take a stuff animal to share and pass around during circle time. My daughter enjoyed all the activities they did daily and told me on the way home the story that Ms. Hernandez read to her in the classroom. She told me an explicit timeline of her routine trough the day and always seemed excited to go to school the next day. Yey!! I loved their reminders for certain events they had for example crazy hair day or pijama day, everything was well organized so there was no way you'll forget any event or closure for certain holidays. Sandra gives out a calendar or emails you during the week to remind parents. Overall downtown scholars has a great staff that would always greet me with a smile and I can tell they enjoy their job and being around our kids. The children were always smiling, there was art on the walls, they were genuinely cared for while learning through play. It says a lot when someone can be so attached to a school/teachers in less than a year of attending. Terrible - As of Tuesday March 20th, all parents learned there would be new management. No notice to this change by the Owner/Licensee of DTS, Armando Delgado. Under the new director Ms. Chia, I cannot say the same care would be in place. Ms. Chia runs Sunflower Montessori (and several others) across the street which I visited prior to choosing Downtown Scholars. Ms. Chia was cold, rarely smiled, no art on the walls, the kids were not happily enjoying themselves, and the place smelled like stale urine. In the yard, an older woman was 'watching' the kids play on the playground from 8 ft away, not interacting with the kids. These are the people currently running Downtown Scholars as of this management change. I also learned that Ms. Chia has had 4 citations in the last 3 years of her care at Sunflower. This information can be obtained by calling Community Care Licensing Board at (408) 324-2148 There is a difference in theory of 'play-based' learning and 'Montessori' learning centers. I doubt this school will be able to remain a 'play-based' school. The business owner/new management showed no empathy for the kids during this business focused transaction. I would not recommend taking your child here with all these changes.

I attended Legend back in elementary school/middle school and can honestly say they were some of…read morethe best years of my childhood. I remember getting picked up after school by the legend van and being brought over to take to take various classes. Legend always made sure we were fed with snacks, got enough recess breaks, and also made learning fun. Ms. Diu, the center director at the time, was one of my favorite teachers, and she's still there after all these years . Mr. and Mrs. Chan were always welcoming and made legend feel like home.
