When I tried to enter the bar, they stopped their conversation and told me I am not allowed inside since, and I quote "you did not tell me bonsoir" in the rudest manner. Turns out the exact same thing happened to my girlfriend who arrived a few minutes earlier, however since she is white and a woman she was let in. I need to point out I was not dressing casual and nothing was inappropriate about my appearance except for the color of my skin seems like. Upon checking your review pages online turns out many people had the same experience with the bouncers at the door and makes me wonder why this problem is not addressed. I hope that this will bring some light upon what is happening since clearly the administration is not aware of the situation.

Situated right across from Delirium and next to miss Jeanneke Pis, Floris is the quintessential absinthe bar that everyone should visit in Brussels. If you've never had absinthe (or tasted the watered down variation that the States sells), this is a MUST. It's hard to describe what absinthe is supposed to do to you but it'll come in due time. The bartender we had was extremely friendly and knowledgable about absinthe. They probably get questions all the time so don't fret if you're new. They'll make a recommendation for you based on your taste preference, tolerance level, etc. If you've never made an absinthe drink before, you're in luck. It's a lot of fun dripping water over the sugar cube and distilling it. If you're a brave (or naive) soul, you can simply take it as a shot, but be warned that the effects may come quicker than you can handle. Super friendly bartenders, hundreds, yes hundreds of various absinthe bottles from all over the world - including (drum roll) Seattle. Floris offers a unique atmosphere and a memorable experience. Knowledgeable staff is privy to many absinthe fun facts and will gladly share tidbits with you. Now for the main course: we sampled 3 kinds of this infamous spirit. Compete with sugar cubes and flames of course. I can honestly tell you, it tastes like @%&, but gives you a very different yet quick buzz. Eager to get the full experience, one of our rounds included absinthe with the highest concentration of worm wood available these days, which is 35%. P.S. Real old school cats jammin' out as if no one else is there. The crowd is hypnotized and for good reason, as the musicians are spellbinding. I felt a little out of place at first since my idea of jazz is limited, and by limited, I mean whatever Carrie listens to on Homeland, but after a couple songs and a couple martinis, I was at ease. When there is a band playing, it's quite intimidating walking in, but just do it and you will be handsomely rewarded with an evening of magical tunes and adult bevvies.

Wednesday night is college hip hop night...this is a bit weird for a 40 year old, but being American I went along with it. Plus there was no cover charge. My goodness... what I walked into were great vibes, dance JAMS, a friendly crowd, and everyone just really enjoying themselves. Marj C. was right when she wrote this bar was a mix of "vaudeville meets rogue pirate hangout." It was awesome in every sense of that description. On top of that, the number of different types of beers and shots available was astounding and cheap! Beer on tap was 2€. "Fancy" Trappistes Rochefort beers were 4€, and they mixed countless shots-- including SPECULOOS SHOTS! SO GOOD! **BONUS: The next day I found out that Inspectah Deck, (yes... from the Wu-Tang Clan), did a show there minutes before I walked in. So random. SO FUN!
