I visited Scotland with my sister in 1988. In wanting to remember our trip by buying myself a kilt, I wandered into the Celtic Craft Centre. I chose a red and green plaid that I had always loved and since I'm not scottish had no link to a particular plaid. I was measured and paid for the kilt to be made and shipped.
I left Scotland to return to Minnesota, USA and waited for my kilt to be shipped to me. After several months, and no arrival, I had a friend who was going to school there and staying in Dalkeith went to the shop to inquire. They had lost the order. The kilt had not been made. Needless to say, I was fortunate they found the order, made the kilt and my friend actually brought it to me on her return to the states. In spite of the mix-up, I've enjoyed my kilt for the last 24 years and it still looks like new. The flare of the skirt is 4 1/2 yards wide and beautifully sewn. I paid $500 for it in 1988. I wonder now how much a kilt would cost today. Mighty happy I bought it. Thank you. Since then I've married and now my name is JoAnn Alexander. read more
