SMALL TOWN SHOPPING…read more Over the last 12+ years our little food store has changed. It went from Lakefront to Sentry to finally Festival Foods. The original owners held on as long as they could until they realized they had no buying power by only having a single unit. The only good thing about Festival Foods is we actually have affordable prices. They are not as low as Woodman's but much better then in years past. In the past I would simply cringe at some of the prices I paid. I even considered going hungry. Ha! This store has everything you will need in a culinary bind. This is our go to place when we are missing stuff or need a certain food item. The checkers are a little unfriendly and if you don't have the coupon clipped then they won't give you the sale price. This is a little annoying because literally ever store in America will say...no problem I've got the coupon right here. I'm assuming this is a direct order from their manager to be a pain because all of the checkers can't be this mean and unhelpful. They also have a small beer cave. The beer cave is always the best in the summer when I'm hot. It gives me a chance to cool off. I highly recommend you look out for the add on deals. These are great and you don't get these in Illinois. It's brilliant to purchase a 12 pack of beer and then get a package of free brats. This should be a requirement of every grocery store around the world. The parking lot is huge and there's a red box located outside in case you want to watch a movie. This store is the place to shop at when you need food. It's our small town grocery and we are very lucky to have it. FLASHBACK - This use to be the home of Grumpy Gary who use to make all of the brats here. He was always great to talk to and he really wasn't that grumpy. He use to have 20+ brats in his glass case. It was always fun to try and discover some new brat flavors. Grumpy Gary is definitely missed. He was a fixture in the store and part of the tradition I miss.

He stated that brand (Everfresh) stamps the expiration date on the bottle in a code. So I purchased the item giving cashier benefit of the doubt that they wouldn't sell expired juice. I got home and took a small sip and it tasted weird. So I googled the company and expiration date code on the bottle and it expired in June of 2025, over a year ago!! I then dumped it out and Called Ayria's liquor store (s 27th st). The guy was nasty on the phone so I drove up there with the empty bottle. The older gentleman then made a big deal that the bottle was empty and I explained to him that it was expired, so I dumped it. He reluctantly gave me my money back, but never apologized for selling expired products. I even asked do you carry another brand, because I would've still purchased another brand to patron his small business. He snarly replied, "NO, we only have that one and they're all expired". I grabbed my refund and just shook my head as he didn't need to escalate that situation. I was understanding that things happen, but after that gross display of customer service I won't be giving them my continued business. There are plenty of other liquor stores near by. BE AWARE of expiration dates if you choose to shop here. Sad because I did patron this business often and I even frequently sent people there to patron them. I will no longer send people to that business or patron it myself. Also sad because I never had issues with the younger cashiers that worked there.

As I was driving down the road, I saw the Lottery sign and decided to pull in for a chance to win. The owner was a very nice man. He said to me, "Good Luck!" I looked at him and said, "Good Luck to you too!". He laughed with me fully understanding my compliment because if I win, then he gets a percentage of the total prize. So technically we are in this together like business partners. The store is really small. It has every scratch off lottery ticket you could ever imagine that the state of Illinois has ever printed. You can also order those tickets by numbers on the plastic containers. The owner has set this up very efficiently. Also this place has smokes. Now I do not recommend these because they will kill you but in the 3 minutes I was there over 10 people stopped in to buy packs of cigs, so his prices must be good for the area. So if you're in the area and you want to buy that winning lottery ticket, then I recommend this place because it feels lucky!!!

It looked well maintained and welcoming. Walking in, the foyer was quite a surprise. It looked like an all brick domed tunnel, with vintage jugs in the walls and stocked with firewood. Once inside, I was quite surprised at how large the store actually was. I saw several aisles of wine, liquor, snacks and party supplies. I think they have a little bit of everything. While checking out, the counter had fun pre-made shots on display. The store was super clean and organized. Everything was orderly in a logical fashion. I was able to find everything I needed so easily. The guy behind the counter was very friendly. He called out a hello when I walked in. When I had a couple questions he came out from behind the counter to help me. He made suggestions and could not have been more helpful. I love businesses like this. Living a big city, I appreciate the details of a small town business with emphasis on kindness and ease. I feel like if I lived nearby, the guy working would remember me and know what I'm looking for. I love making a connection and was very surprised that I made one here during a quick stop at a liquor store far from home.
