I had a new screen put on my iPhone to replace a smashed one that still operated fine.
I paid $90.
At first it worked, then in a few weeks the screen digitized and it would not respond to touch anymore. After that the screen just went black. I could tell the phone still worked because it made a noise when I plugged it in.
I stopped by the mall and spoke with Emil, the man who did the original work and he said to bring it in and he would take care of it.
He was not there when I came today so I told the girl exactly what had happened, and left the iPhone to be fixed. Emil called me and said that the screen didn't work and asked me what I wanted him to do. I said to fix it so that it worked. When I came to pick it up he wanted to charge me another $90 for changing the screen again. I said that was ridiculous and that obviously the first screen was faulty and he should stand by his work. He dropped the price to $50.
He argued with me that I had waited too long to come in (about two months had passed).
$50 is still a lot of money for something I already paid $90 for. I offered him $30 (even though I didn't think I should owe him anything) and I debated with him for a good 15 minutes at his kiosk in the mall. I had my 3 year old daughter with me and couldn't argue anymore so I told him that I would pay him the $50 but I would also write up a review of his behavior and his business practices. I paid him and left.
