You must first register your CAC (registration hours are between 0800-1300, I believe) if you decide to use the gym 24/7, as it is open. It's very small, in comparison to the east side gym, but also less utilized. There are 2 weight rooms, a large cardio room (treadmills, elliptical, stair-step, recumbent bikes), and a 'Nautilis' room with variety machines. If you typically do floor exercises such as crunches or planks, good luck, because there's only 2 yoga mats upstairs in a tiny little area. The heat in there can become overbearing, as there are only several fans that re-circulate hot air around the main rooms, and no A/C for cooling. Also, if you're on the elliptical machines, the fan is right above you, so you will not be feeling anything. Though the building itself is pretty darn old, all of the equipment inside seem relatively new, compared to the last Planet Fitness I visited. Let's also not forget that this gym is free to all government employees, military, or anyone with a CAC (contractors too, I think), so it's not too shabby.

I can move from one thing to the other very quickly which allows for shorter but more intense work out sessions, especially because I use the "superset" style of working out. I'm also able to cycle from my house to the gym in just a few minutes since they have bicycle parking there. I was frustrated at first because there didn't seem to be a place for ab work or stretching but I discovered that in the basketball gym area, they have plenty of room and mats to do whatever you need to do to allow for a complete work out.

Over the past decade, I've graciously bled pools of sweat in gyms all over this metro, from CrossFit barns to bootcamp-style conditioning, most recently completing about 18 months at Orangetheory, where I sustained several minor and debilitating injuries. I gave it my all, spent a pretty penny on physical therapy, and finally decided to ditch the treadmill for spin classes. But Spenga's much more than a spin scene. You do 20 minutes on a bike, 20 more on the floor (free weights, kettlebell, TRX, BOSU), and 20 minutes of yoga. Originally, I definitely had reservations, but now that I'm about two months in, I can emphatically state the following: * I burn 700-900 calories per class * The yoga is super good for me * The music's pretty good (better than OTF) * It's more affordable than OTF * The instructors are polished and personable * The facility is spacious and clean * I'm injury free From a community standpoint, this place is more of a drop-in-get-it-done-and-leave kinda situation, which is great with me, but if you're more motivated by a gym full of besties, look elsewhere. I'll note they could get better at correcting form, and I would appreciate more class options, but I've never lost a penny from a late cancellation (there's no need to reserve ahead of time) and I could be wrong, but I think I'm actually seeing the results of these workouts. And our coach (I'm sorry I missed her name but she had the faded rainbow hair with one side cut short) was knowledgeable and attentive, and really encouraged us through the workout! We also brought our two daughters, and when the music got a little explicit, she switched the songs. She didn't have to, as the words were fast enough and our girls were entertained and distracted by the pups sitting off to the side that they didn't notice, but she did and she took the initiative, and I was VERY appreciative. It was one of those little things that went above and beyond and I was grateful. We loved it and will for sure come in again next summer on our 2020 road trip to Missouri! (This year it's Maryland).

I've been a member of Burque's active community for a few years (let's get real- gym rat, exercise junkie, person on the Bosque that says on your left waaay louder than deemed necessary). I started hearing more and more about Crossfit and decided to investigate the legit way- YouTube. I was blown away watching these terrifying feats of strength/endurance and immediately thought not my scene. Saying you can't do something is lame- and certainly not how Mr. Rogers raised me to think. I woke up one morning and decided to take the plunge in the world of badassery (yeah that's a word now) I rolled up to Sandia Crossfit thinking "Will I survive? I'm going to be the only person without knee socks....I cant do a pull up if a kittens life depended on it" One free intro class later I was hooked. (Saturday 11-12 free intro hour) Sandia Crossfit is the only gym I've seen that takes "Anyone can crossfit" to heart. The workouts are tailored to your own capabilities, you will be able to participate no matter your fitness background/limitations. The instructors are knowledgable and genuinely want to help you get the most out of the class- quickly offering adjustments, modifications ( or in my case- pushing me to the level I want to be). Classes are an hour comprising of warmup workout, technique work, and lastly a WOD that will give you that endorphin rush you've been jonesing for. They also offer functional yoga as well as mobility (Mobility is taught by a physical therapist at no extra cost- seriously) Paleo pot lucks, snow shoe outings, swim wods? I can't say enough about my love for this place, the people that run it, or the sport of Crossfit.

There are a variety of classes throughout the day, ranging from boot camp to yoga. Your children are welcome to come with you. I've brought my kids and they watch a movie just a few feet away from me while I exercise (childcare isn't provided). The younger one can stay in the stroller and can be picked up or the stroller can be pushed around as needed. Everyone is so friendly. In addition to the classes, they have social events like salad in a jar (meal prep type) and play dates! It's a great little community!

So this review is very biased since I have never tried crossfit anywhere else. But I LOVE IT! The owner and the coaches are super nice and super encouraging. The gym itself is a huge open space with equipment that you can use during open gym sessions. On top of that they have classes and the coaches are very good at correcting postures to make sure you aren't injured while doing strength training. This is not a place where you will run into young meatheads and all they want to do is workout and checkout girls like the ordinary gyms. This is a place where they encourage everyone to come and workout and participate in crossfit. The coaches are incredibly friendly and the atmosphere in the whole crossfit gym is very welcoming. After a month of working out here, I can say I truly enjoy coming here.
