This was the best! We walk in and take a seat. A woman sitting alone at the table next to us says, do you know what you're gonna get? I tell her it's my first time. She says you picked a great day to come here. On Fridays they have but all you can eat walleye special. I am telling you it, was some serious eats! Nice and crispy with crispy meaty fries. And the pea salad with cheese and finely grated onions and a bit of sweetness! Heaven! The pasta salad was made with a hearty pasta, and it was delicious too. Service was quick. Dark interior mostly because of a lack of windows. You can buy a variety of fresh fish at a deli counter, take some fried fish to go, or eat in. We ate in. Service friendly but not at all over bearing. Food came quickly and was piping hot -- perfect. Nicely fried with little breaking. Generous bowl of yummy potato salad. The interior was not modern but some of the best places tend to focus more on the food. Customer service was great and helped me with ordering since it was my first time. I got the walleye basket with fries and hot sauce. The walleye was hot and the breading was crispy and delicious. They gave me a ton of hot sauce, my only very minor complaint is that I wish the ketchup for the fries was in cup and not packer form for easy dipping. My whole family loves this place. It may be out of the way, and not fancy, but it has some of the best fried fish. I make it a point to stop in every time I'm back in Waterloo. Originally, Waterloo had a fish market that my family visited since before I was born.As the city underwent development, the fish market went out of business. We thought the it was lost. The decor may not be the best but for the price I'll take the outdated decor any day. They do not take debit card just cash. We will always love the food here... but when their sign says closing at 8pm... don't come in at 7pm because she will be upset you're there at closing time and refuse to give you their all deal of all you can eat walleye because they are "closing." Step in and you will not see much for updated decor but it appears to be clean enough. Atmosphere... Uh..no. Service? There's likely not many people there and the best way to explain it is efficient. Price... Looking good, but be sure to bring some cash since plastic isn't accepted. Finally the food. It's pretty good and the wide array of offerings of fish is impressive. I am a big fan of supporting local business so I was excited to introduce my friends from out of town to this establishment. We arrived on a Saturday night around 7:15 pm. It was posted on the door that hours were until 8 pm. There were 6 in our party. The woman who saw us come in immediately informed us that she was closing at 8 pm and the all you can eat fish was not an option because of the time. Staggered by her lack of warm welcome, I let her know that we could take our business elsewhere if she wasn't interested in serving us. She then changed her tune and went on to help us. The meal was ok and the service wasn't terrible. We spent over $100 there in 45 minutes. Most restaurants will help someone who arrives 30 minutes prior to closing time with no limitations. It's unfortunate this was our first experience with this restaurant. I would suggest expanding business hours on weekends to better accommodate a supper crowd. The $100 made was $100 more than they would have, if we had turned around and walked out the door. Bad first impression for 6 people who could have been returning customers. read more
