Service is great. Selection is super and we are supporting local! Value is comparable to all other greenhouses.

I'd went and purchased a water pump last night and found out I didn't really need it. I took it…read moreback right away this morning. Still in the box unopened, the Clerk gave me a run around and called her supervisor to check if the box was not tampered with they claim . A waste of 15 mins. A total waste of 45 minutes to return an item. This a second time for me to return an item to Lowes both times were unpleasant and irritating Then after I went to get some pumping fittings . The associate in pumping was very helpful and knowledgable. Once I was done, there was large line up at only cashier was working the self-serve tills . I went to three of the self- serve none were working . There were no other tills opens I went over to customer service to ask if they could open a till where I waited for a few mins watching three clerks there that were goofing around a computer a giggling. Being ignored and looking a the line up getting bigger on the one till . I set the items down on the counter and walked out . Piss poor customer service and a lack of Cashers on duty , during their busy season

I have shopped at Lowe's previously for toilets, which is why I went there again this time. The…read moreman I dealt with initially ('Larry') provided some of the best customer service I have ever received, however, everything that happened afterward undermined and erased that initial experience. I purchased a Pfister Fullerton toilet which, upon installation, did not work properly. Irritating, but I contacted a professional plumber to see if there was something he could remedy. He came over, looked at the toilet and informed me that there was a flaw in the design of a specific part which meant the toilet would not work. He suggested I return the toilet to the store and get a different one. Upon removing the nonfunctioning toilet and packing it up and returning it to the store, I went to the 'Returns' desk. A scowling woman there asked what I was looking for, and when I told her I needed to return the broken toilet, she informed me it would be a 20 minute wait for someone from plumbing to come help me. I waited. Then, this other guy (whose name I never got) came over from the plumbing department and brusquely asked what I needed. He took a look at the toilet, asked if I had installed it, and when I told him I did and it didn't work, he told me there was nothing he could do, and that I should call Pfister. He even went a step further and told me that it was against the law for Lowe's to take back a toilet 'once it's been installed' (this is a lie). He refused to help facilitate the return or refund in any way, and was incredibly rude. The store itself is poorly stocked for such a large building. Employees that I have dealt with there, with the glittering exception of Larry, have been officious, incompetent and rude. Apologies to Larry, who hopefully will leave the company for greener pastures, as the operation Lowe's is running in Regina is awful. I will not be going back, and will gladly tell anyone I know to do the same. Go to Home Depot, Rona, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Co-Op, or anywhere else at all. Avoid Lowe's.

There are a few things that this place does really well. I'm sure their annuals are great, as are…read moresome of their perennials. And they seem to have a good deal of knowledge about plants - though it isn't particularly deep. They also have some odd policies that are not of benefit to the customers. For example, perennials don't come with a one-year warranty unless they are marked with a certain kind of coding (which is itself entirely invisible to customers until you inquire). This wouldn't be a big issue normally, but most of the other greenhouses in town do offer some kind of warranty, even if it takes the form of an exchange rather than a money-back guarantee. Dutch Growers' reasoning was that perennials need to be planted in certain conditions in order to establish themselves. Oddly, though, they offer a one-year warranty on trees and shrubs regardless of where they are planted. Now, I'm not a dumb gardener. I have been growing plants in the same yard for more than 15 years, and so I've got a good sense of where there is good soil, what makes it good, what kind of sun it gets. I didn't appreciate being told that the perennials I was buying weren't necessarily going to survive till the next year because of my incompetence. The reality is that most of the perennials that Dutch Growers sells are into their second or third year of growth, which makes them much more difficult to transplant - not impossible, mind you, but more difficult. I still have a success rate above 95% with perennials, but I know what I'm doing. I also know not to purchase plants that won't survive our winters. The people who work here apparently do not. They recommended that I purchase a Zone 4 lavender when I asked if they had any that would survive our winters - there are two or three variants that will - and I asked them how I was expected to keep it around for more than a single summer. They told me to cover it up with more snow and plant it in a place that doesn't get a lot of winter wind. That may have worked, and I would maybe be willing to give it a try if it came with a warranty of some sort, but without one I see no point in taking his word for it. Finally, a few weeks ago I purchased a Cyclamen from the tropical plants section of the store. It was a clearance, and so the plant was on half price, and I knew I could use it as a gift for my mother. It was a beautiful, regal plant in the store so I purchased it with some confidence. The next day, though, the plant's leaves had started to wilt and fall away dead. I didn't know what was happening, so I looked into it. The plant had been over-watered, and was now dying. There is no certain way to save it, other than hope that it might going into dormancy and come back the following year. Here's the thing - I did nothing to the plant other than take it home and put it in the window. The growers at Dutch Gardens had over-watered this plant, causing it to die, and were not willing to do an exchange on the plant because it was marked as final sale. I've not been impressed with them at all this summer, and have resolved to take my business elsewhere in the future. Thank goodness there are better, more well informed, and more passionate greenhouses in this city. My recommendations include Plant Ranch and WP. Avoid Dutch Growers as much as you can.
