Cecils used to be the best place in town to eat for lunch. I've been going there for 25 years. I ordered lunch today, the student's special. The roast beef was tough, hard to chew and tasted like a wet piece of cardboard. The perogies were dry, but the little sauce that was there was watery. This place my friends, is the best perogies I have ever had. It was absolutely perfect in every way. This was delicious Authentic Perogies. The young gentleman at the cash was really nice he treated my girlfriend and I as family. He gave my partner a perogie sample and she was hooked we bought the largest size of pergoies and walked away smiling. Ick Ick Ick. no variety of types of perogies, one type fits all whether you like cheddar cheese perogies or not (and I like cottage cheese perogies). Only one way to serve them; drowning in some type of cream sauce. No onions and butter options. Ice tea extremely weak and overpriced. A seemingly innocent place, tucked away on a corner (probably not so do the locals though). I enjoyed a filling meal one afternoon with a group of friends in this clean, low key, simple eatery. The staff was friendly and the menu is simple (with a veggie option as well). As I said, the place was clean, but I am a bit puzzled about the woman's washroom having two toilet seats, side by side, without stalls... I'm assuming they aren't finished with the washroom yet ;) or they are takin' the 'girls go to the washroom in pairs' thing a bit too literally. I was pleasantly surprised when I visited Cecil's again after seven years! The first time I went, I ate their perogies as my last meal before going vegan. Cheesy and dill-y and delicious, I remember them being. However, now, I am a vegan, and have been since that fated day back in 2004. I was expecting to watch my friends eat with my tummy rumbling, but was pleasantly surprised. See, apparently, a lot of Cecils' customers are vegetarian, and they've kept their borscht (beet soup) and cabbage rolls vegan. Of course, they'll serve it to you with a big cheese biscuit whether you want it or not, so maybe bring a friend who likes cheese bread. But I was really happy to find that I could eat here. read more

Third time coming here and every time it has been great. The perogies with the creamy dill sauce are to die for. The jalapeno smilie paired with the fresh roast beef are a great combination for the perogies. Always greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant. As soon as customers left I noticed the staff quickly cleaning up the tables. Food isn't cheap but you will always leave stuffed. With the recent passing of Cecil, it is so great to see his restaurant living on and I will continue to be a returning customer. read more

If you are looking for some amazing perogies, this is the place to go! It's definitely one of my favorite places to go in Kelowna, if not my top choice. It's sad that this gem is hidden away because it really deserves to be on the main drag of Burnard Ave. I can't get enough of their perogies and I love that you can also get sausages and cabbage rolls! All the dishes are cheap, the service is good and fast, and you can even take home frozen perogies. This place gets a big Nom Nom! read more

I have NEVER experienced worse customer service in my entire life!!! I've been recommended to come to this place numerous times and decided to go try it out. When walking in there was two younger guys working. The guy at the front asked how we were doing, but neither me or my boyfriend heard him which resulted in a comment under his breath saying "guess I'll just f$@& myself." With the menu at the front and no in hand menus and us never being there before we took no more than 3 minutes to decide wha to get. The two boys were annoyed by us and making sarcastic comments to each other about us being slow. After ordering we were told to find our own spot. We sat and drank our water to notice the chef picking his nose in the back while COOKING OUR FOOD!!The food came out really fast after ordering. The original guy came with cutlery and our food where we were then motioned to take our food from his hands rather than him placing it himself. He also gave us our cutlery where he was holding the forks and knives on the head, which seamed really unsanitary. Our food was 90% sauce and was cold. I was not impressed one bit. And have never been so disappointed at a restaurant in my life. I would never ever recommend anyone to go there!!!! read more

I love perogies and enjoy cabbage rolls and wanted to treat my Fiance (who hasn't had much of either food in her life). We opted to walk as tourists and my optimism ended when the food arrived. If I had read the reviews before we decided to go we may not have gone, and sadly I have to admit that the negative reviews are what I agree with most. I was shocked when the food arrived within a few minutes -- too quickly, suggesting the food is sitting in the back ready to go fast food style, or being warmed in a microwave. Yet, it was only luke warm. The perogies were pasty and bland with a bad stuffing to dough ratio. It comes with this cream dill sauce of some sort (which surprised us because we both expected to dress our own perogies). The cabbage roll was an even bigger disappointment. No solidity or structure, it slopped into soup on my plate when cut into. It being my Fiance's first time trying it I had to tell her they were a bad example and that real Cabbage rolls aren't like this. The bread was the best thing on the plate followed by the Kielbassa. The service we received was simply odd. Management is out of touch with their customers and delusional from the few customers that rave about this place. I feel the majority of people would not enjoy the food here. After being so excited to try Cecil's we were grossly disappointed and walked back to our hotel in defeat. I could eat it again if hungry and there were no other options, but would never recommend. read more

I love perogies and was happy to find this little restaurant. The person who took our order was friendly. I was disappoined with the borscht. It was tasteless and watery. It had no texture. Our sever told us ahead of time that people either like it or hate it so I was warned ahead of time.The perogies were greasy. The prices are also to high for what you get. This is a cheap food to produce If you haven't eaten home made borscht and perogies than you may not mind this food but I have and this is not that good. I must say the sausage I ordered wasn't bad. I should also mention that I was with four of my friends who had not been to this restaurant before and they all felt the same as I did. read more

I love perogies and grew up in a German family. So having the dill gravy on it was the way to go. However they need to take down a notch; the butter and add bit more whipped cream is my opinion. Sausage was great with it. Nice little hole in the wall to go to. So worth it and tastes like the real thing. I always order the Jonathan meal. read more
