A family member stepped on the rung of one of our bar chairs, breaking it. I decided to leave the repair to an expert. I Googled CDS Company, liked the reviews, and decided to call to see if my chair could be repaired. Craig, the owner, was certain that he could repair it, so we set a time for me to bring it to his shop. He gave me clear directions and met me at my car to take the chair out and up to his shop. He carefully assessed how he would go about repairing it and said he would have it repaired by the following week. I was delighted when I picked it up yesterday, seeing that Craig not only expertly repaired the rung, he took the extra step of painting it, matching the red color perfectly. We chose this company because they were local and advertised being a professional furniture refinisher. We got anything but professional work. My antique chairs have gouges in them- some poorly attempted fixes and some just left. The new caning was stained and the end result is blotchy and unacceptable. The top of our antique dining table that was to be refinished and stained to match the bottom of the table and the chairs turned out a different color altogether. When confronted with our unacceptance we were told he would get back to us to make it right. This has not happened despite our clear communication on several attempts. After calling a furniture repair man a few years ago (who came to my house to give me an estimate and never called me back), I thought my chances of success of finding one in Auburn were slim. He was very attentive, gave me a fair opening quote over the phone, and had me bring the chair at my earliest convenience. After pouring over reviews of companies from Sacramento to Rancho Cordova to Nevada City, we liked what we read regarding CDS Company in Auburn. Craig is very personable and easy to work with. We had a barrel-back banker's desk chair with wooden swivel base. The ends of two of the legs were broken apart to where they would not hold the casters any longer. Craig rebuilt the ends, refinished the wood, and reinstalled the casters. I'm sitting in the chair as I write this review and loving having my chair back after several years of non-use. I called CDS today in search of a repairman for my sectional sofas which have two broken recliner pulls. Craig answered the phone, was incredibly pleasant, and offered to come to my house to see if he could make the repair for me. We made an appointment for 1:30 (same day) and not only was he on time, but he showed up a few minutes early! He spent about 30 minutes taking a look at my recliner pieces and offered to try and replace the broken parts even though we had no idea if parts were still available in the matching style. He didn't charge for his time today and his estimate to repair each recliner, if the part was available, was reasonable. I found the receipt for my sofa and called to give him what may have been a manufacturer name. He said he had already found a replacement part supplier, gave me the price for the part, and asked if I wanted to move forward with the repair. The repair won't be made until next week, but at this point, I am impressed with his demeanor, promptness, and professionalism. I would recommend Criag to everyone! We had Craig build us a cover for our BBQ island last summer. Dealing with him was a pleasant experience at the time. However, over the winter, the cover tore due to the wind and rain. We asked to have it repaired under his warranty, which we were then told would cost us $240 to fix. When I called his number this evening to leave a message about the issue, he told me in no uncertain terms to never F*cking bother him again, before hanging up on me. It's a shame that we were treated this way, as I had thought that we had a good relationship, and that I had recommended him to other people. However, based on this latest call, I can no longer recommend his services, and I would caution anyone who has dealings with him to go elsewhere read more
