Also, the experience with the instructor in the first class, who didn't show up for the final exam, made the class an absolute nightmare (although Langara did right by taking our complaints seriously and giving everyone a very generous credit). And the Starbucks on campus is run by fucking morons. However, I am giving them back a star, because I was impressed with how they handled the recent school closure. On Monday April 1st, a disgruntled student* set off some incendiary devices in the school, causing the evacuation and closure of the school for two days (luckily it reopened on Wednesday April 3rd, the day I had class). It was big news, and Langara was really good with sending everyone informative emails about the incident. They updated everyone in a timely manner about the school closure and what was going on (Translink could learn from them), and even after the school was reopened, they kept everyone informed about the progress of the case, and offered students support services if needed. The emails were well written, informative, and interesting. There were quite a few emails, but it didn't feel like spam. So good job, Langara, at keeping people informed. *One of my classmates said that she had found out that the student who set off the devices had failed his chemistry class. I guess good thing he failed, otherwise the damage might have been worse.

Courses fill up with the insane amount of international students Langara hosts and you'll be lucky to have a spot in the 20's in the waitlist. Not even the worst part. Before you can actually see the course outline or how the course is etc, Langara has their 100% refund date set to just the day before all that info goes live. If on the day all the info goes live and you see that you don't like the course itself, too bad you just lost money and are now only eligible for a 70% refund. This school is the gross reality of what post secondary has become, a product only for those who can afford it and past that, only for those with the incomprehensible patience for it.

Most students were only there to get some courses and then transfer to UBC/SFU. It had a college feel to it. It was sort of embarrassing to admit that I was attending here. Five years later the place has really grown. The psych department is amazing. More people are coming in with the intent of earning a degree instead of just 1 or 2 years. Proud to call Kwantlen my alma mater. Richmond Campus is sort of old and outdated, but it has come a long way and is under major renovations now. Every time construction happens, it improves the look and feel of the place by 200%. Surrey campus is more up to date. Even the oldest building is well-maintained. Another huge improvement is that they now have more upper level courses in Richmond. Its still not the most prestigious university, but I did a fours year degree in just over five years and it only cost about $20 000. I was making just enough to cover my tuition which means no student debt for me. You could not get that anywhere else!

I really wanted to visit the Harry Potter-esque section of the Ridington Room. - $18 to access the beautiful Beaty Museum? Man, wish it was free. + lol they have a nude beach right by campus. About 300 steps down Trail 6. There were only 5 ppl down there, all clothed. Prob cuz it was cloudy and cold. It rained a little. It is one I had not seen in quite some time, and seeing it again sure ignited a wealth of memories of my very many 'UBC days'. The book: The University of British Columbia - A Souvenir -- by George Woodcock and Tim Fitzharris. A quote from the forward: ".............. a lasting reminder of this special environment for anyone who has ever visited or been a part of it". For me, those days started in the late-1950's, and continued through to the mid-1960's. UBC was definitely a "special environment" -- it changed and dominated my life in such wonderful, exciting, and fulfilling ways.
