My daughter was given a turtle purchased from CDE Exotics as a gift about five years ago. When he became ill she was beside herself as she had no means to get him the treatment necessary, and the prospect of losing her beloved companion was pure devastation. Thankfully CDE was willing to take him in and try to nurse him back to health. This was provided as charity, and payment would be optional. When we came by to see how he was doing, we were shocked by his condition. He had always been the liveliest creature, constantly moving around and swimming, and now he was completely lifeless and gasping for air or water. His eyes which had been completely swollen shut were no better. This was after the turtle had been in their care for two weeks, and he looked like he was dying so we decided to take him home. We were waiting for the owner to return so we can tell him this and see if we could get medicine to take with us. When he returned he stormed by us toward the front of the store and demanded we pay 100$ to cover what he had allegedly invested. When we protested this because of the initial agreement, that this was optional and charity, they threatened to the call the police so we ended up paying them 50$ cash as it was all we had on us to appease him and avoid a big ordeal. We also observed that the place was not in good condition and completely unsanitary, and same with the animals. They do not look well or well-taken-care-of at all. read more
