This guy quoted me a great price, so I let him install them. So Tom's replaces my tires and the mechanic came to me and said that he installed a "missing" bolt from one of the ball joints. First off, I was shocked it was missing and second, I was shocked Tom's mechanic even caught it, let alone replaced the bolt. There was no charge. The fact that he checked my suspension system and all I was having done was a couple of tires, really surprised me. But God only knows what would have happened down the road if he didn't see that bolt missing and replace it. No more "house" mechanics for me. If you want the job done right, go to Tom's. It's obvious to me now, that you get what you pay for! I'll be taking my cars to Tom's from now on.

They would be happy to replace the front sway bar ASAP. I had no time to shop around and agreed to the estimate and repair. That was a big mistake!! While the problem was fixed. The final cost was way more than reasonable. I have since found that the parts were on average 40% to 50% over actual cost from Mopar. Needless to say, this was very disappointing and while I visit the area periodically and have used brown tire services in the past, I will not use them again and advise others to avoid service there or at the very least get a competitive bid from another repair shop. Valpo Muffler is one of the best I've found the area. We have used their repair services twice in the past six months for exhausted related issues, and both times have been fantastic. For each issue, the owner, John, personally inspected our car and gave a free estimate for the repairs. The work was done quickly and in line with the very reasonable cost they quoted. What makes Valpo Muffler exceptional though are the little things. It's wonderful to find a mechanic who is not only good and fair but also friendly. When unexpected exhausted issues cropped up with our Honda Civic, John got us in that afternoon and completed our repairs in less than a hour. Of course, more complicated issues would have taken longer, but it was wonderful seeing a mechanic put his customer's needs first. A few things to note - Valpo Muffler does service most automotive issues but it is only a non-electrical mechanic meaning they only service issues with drive train, engine, exhaust, etc - they do not handle body, electrical, or computer services. They also will give you no-fuss, free visual estimates right there but any diagnostic testing will come with a fee. With this in mind, you cannot find many mechanics much better than the folks at Valpo Muffler.

I had to make an appointment 2 weeks in advance. Problem was…read morea sporadic hart-to-start and a metal-to-metal clackety noise when starting the car. I said to install a new timing chain and hydraulic tensioner, and inspect the other parts for any that may be bad. Gill's said they will check all the parts after disassembly. It's a 4 hour job to disassemble the top of the engine. After installing a new timing chain and tensioner, Gill's said they had checked everything, and all was ok. I picked up the car and it was better, but I basically had the same hard starting problem and clackety noise as before. Not wanting to wait 2 more weeks for them to look at it, I took the car to another shop. The second shop found what Gill's missed: a bad intake sprocket. Gill's had said, after the repair, that the sprockets, naming them specifically, were ok. The noise is now gone and my engine runs great.

I decided to put the old broken axle back but they recommend me to let them rebuild the old axle for me for cheaper cost. I accepted and after 3 hours, the broken axle was like brand new again and was put in my car! They did a good job. My car so smooth now. I'll come back. I called them up at 4pm with two hours left in their workday and they said that they would be willing to stay late if possible to fix it. I was able to get towed there fairly quickly and they actually were able to get my starter replaced and get it going back on the road again 2 minutes before closing at 6 PM. It's my first time there, but since I'm moving to Valparaiso it will probably not be my last time. They seem like a great bunch of guys there! I will attach photos here of messages he sent me via my personal phone number by copying it from my profile that was made by the store. Without my consent or pre-approved knowledge this employee paid for a service that I was entrusting the storefronts mechanics to do. This is an older gentleman that had previously been speaking with me about his wife and elderly father in a friendly, NOT inappropriate, manner. Given the light hearted conversation, I consider his act to be one of generosity and age superior kindness. However, once I left the shop is when he began messaging me. As you can see from the messages, I offered to pay him back for this unexpected and unauthorized act he did of his own free will. He proceeded to request sexual favors in return for his decision to pay for my car service. I was dumbfounded and did not respond for a period of time, in which he repeatedly messaged me until I did respond. In response I reflected on how inappropriate the request was. I unfortunately had to encounter him again the next morning, as the shop's team was servicing my vehicle once more. He "apologized" over text and said he too would be professional. All in all this was a terrible, uncomfortable and outright disgusting experience that I had from this shop. It triggered experiences of sexual harassment and assault that have happened to me in the past year, recent and traumatic enough to induce a panic attack response the more I had to reckon with seeing this man again the next day. I would not recommend their services to anyone, but I ESPECIALLY would not recommend these services to any woman, young women especially, due to their own vulnerability. I was leaving the state and moving across the country, I was alone with no family near my home, and this employee tried to take advantage of that in a humiliating and degrading way.
