While I have received their catalogs since at least 2004, I didn't pull the trigger and order anything until early 2009 (after my tax return naturally). I needed a new turntable, one that wasn't mostly plastic, but affordable. I was attracted to the EU-manufactured Pro-Ject Debut iii, that was then priced at $399 with the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge on a Ferrari red plinth. I phoned the order in and spoke with Chad S. who recommended a good record clamp and made me feel special despite spending less than $500. Present-tense: I've spent thousands on top quality supplies, equipment, and especially viny and SACDs. The two times I received a dud, I had nothing but a positive experience arranging a replacement over the phone. The time zone difference is an uncontrollable circumstance, but I plan accordingly. Only two returns in eight years? Not bad! I especially love the jazz reissues, on 33 1/3 and 45rpm. I've never heard my favorite artists and recordings sound so alive, full, rich, warm and holographic before. As my system gradually improved over the years (e.g. two turntables and three amplifiers later) I derived more enjoyment from active listening sessions. I applaud the other Chad, Chad K., the owner, for dedicating his company to recreating the best sounding classic, jazz, blues, rock, folk and other genres. Long live analog! While I have noted less qualitative application for contract pressing at their Quality Records plant, nearly all of the house labeled records are impeccable. Finally, to testify how impressed I am with this operation, I received an email regarding a recent Prestige Stereo jazz release that evidently has a flaw. Attributed to Chad K. the message promised to replace the LP as soon as it could be replated and repressed. That's service for you! I can't say that I agree with the hatchet job reviews that proceed this one. 6/30/16

An extremely frustrating place to do business with is how I describe Acoustic Sounds. They have…read morephenomenal jazz pressings, of which I own probably close to 100 of, but their website is like something out of 2003. The most recent order I tried to place was for almost $1,200 worth of vinyl. I generated an Affirm virtual card to get 0% interest, and pay it off over the next few months, as I've done several times at other retailers without an issue. However, Acoustic Sounds website apparently doesn't do real time credit card authorizations, and so I received an email about 24 hours later that the Affirm virtual card was declined. Probably due to the length of time it takes for an authorization to happen. Or maybe some other technical problem. I have no idea. You would think you could resolve this on their website, but remember we're dealing with 2003 technology here, and of course it's not possible. There's no way to cancel your order and try again or anything. You have to call a 1-800 number to speak to someone to try and figure out the issue. It's like dealing with a website from the early days of e-commerce. For as much they charge for records it's absolutely ridiculous they don't have any sort of a modern e-commerce platform. So now I'll just check and see if Amazon has them listed and buy from them instead. If you want to pay by check or money order though. Ooh boy Acoustic Sounds has you covered! Get your shit together and into 2024 Acoustic Sounds!

Many people are usually skeptical on buying used but I can tell you that they examine their merch pretty darn well. I like the simplicity of their bins, displays and easy to find stuff. The variety they carry is nice. The Cons: I personally wouldn't sell my stuff here. They will essentially give you next to nothing for your stuff. Yes, I know, they have to make money to resell and they have to base it off of what's popular and all that. I know how this works. However, when you bring in some AMAZING new condition Criterion blu-rays (11 total) and they offer you $3.87... um, no. Highway robbery at that point. You might as well sell your stuff online. I also think some of their new DVDs are ridiculously overpriced. A brand new DVD for like $25? You're insane. You can buy most brand new DVDs online for $12.
