An extremely frustrating place to do business with is how I describe Acoustic Sounds. They have phenomenal jazz pressings, of which I own probably close to 100 of, but their website is like something out of 2003. The most recent order I tried to place was for almost $1,200 worth of vinyl. I generated an Affirm virtual card to get 0% interest, and pay it off over the next few months, as I've done several times at other retailers without an issue. However, Acoustic Sounds website apparently doesn't do real time credit card authorizations, and so I received an email about 24 hours later that the Affirm virtual card was declined. Probably due to the length of time it takes for an authorization to happen. Or maybe some other technical problem. I have no idea. You would think you could resolve this on their website, but remember we're dealing with 2003 technology here, and of course it's not possible. There's no way to cancel your order and try again or anything. You have to call a 1-800 number to speak to someone to try and figure out the issue. It's like dealing with a website from the early days of e-commerce. For as much they charge for records it's absolutely ridiculous they don't have any sort of a modern e-commerce platform. So now I'll just check and see if Amazon has them listed and buy from them instead. If you want to pay by check or money order though. Ooh boy Acoustic Sounds has you covered! I placed an order for 7 albums on 1/1/2026, one album was backordered and the other 6 shipped. Acoustic Sounds cancelled the 7th album without my knowledge and/or consent stating that it was discontinued. I checked their website and found that it is still available to order and confirmed this via a call with them. I asked them to add it back to the order as I had qualified for free shipping, but they said they couldn't do it and refused to provide me with free shipping if I placed a new order for this individual album. I'm surprised at the poor customer service, especially considering that they incorrectly cancelled the 7th album while it was still available. If I order it now, I will be subject to a shipping charge that I would not have had to pay if they either left the order intact or if they added it back to the previous order. This was their mistake and they are taking zero responsibility in resolving the issue... read more

I placed a preorder for an album, and was assured multiple times by multiple people that i would receive it, and then a month later they informed me they were canceling my order. I found Acoustic Sounds when looking online for SACDs, which are very scarce and virtually unavailable in any local brick and mortar store. Acoustic Sounds has the largest selection of SACDs of varying types (Hybrid, Single Layer, SHM Single Layer) that I have found. Prices are a bit steep, particularly for Hybrid SACDs which can occasionally be found in limited selection on other sites such as Amazon. However, when choices are extremely limited the value of being able to purchase a desired SACD is worth something. SHM Single Layer discs can be quite pricey. Order Processing and Shipping is extremely slow. I am still waiting for a disc ordered back in July. At the time it was backordered. I received an email that it was now in stock along with another backordered disc. I expected both to be shipped (this is mid-October) but only one was shipped and the other now shows it is backordered. Not sure what happened but when I received an email stating both discs were in stock I expected both discs to be shipped. No explanation from Acoustic Sounds. Packaging is superb for SACDs. The disc in case is bubble wrapped and placed in a fairly rigid cardboard container that provides great protection. The only way I could see damage happening is if a truck ran over the box. Summary: Pretty good selection of titles but many discs shown are not in stock. It appears backorders are extremely slow at getting filled. Product quality has been excellent. Packaging is excellent. Be prepared for a long wait as shipping is painfully slow. read more

Don't do business with Acoustic Sounds. I was notified that they were shipping my $744.07 order was finally shipping over 2 months after I placed it. They did not give me a tracking number or a shipper name. When I emailed them 16 days later to say I hadn't recieved it, they responded with an email saying that they were not responsible because it was more than 7 days after it shipped. I've emailed and called and gotten an email reiterating this, but no return phone calls. So now I'm out over $700.00, and they won't even get me a tracking number. They suck. read more

They have an excellent selection of vinyl but it's hit or miss as to whether or not you'll actually receive your order. I placed an order for a Christmas gift on 12/7. When I placed the order, it said "expected delivery 12/24". The items were in stock and there didn't seem to be any reason they wouldn't arrive before Christmas. On 12/24 I realized I still hadn't received the package nor had I gotten tracking. I called them and they informed me that, not only would it not arrive by 12/24, but it hadn't even shipped yet!!!! I understand that expected delivery dates are only an estimate, but to not even have SHIPPED it by their anticipated delivery date is inexcusable. When I called, they offered no explanation as to why it hadn't shipped, just said they were sorry. They seem to rest on their laurels that they are one of only a few places that offer a great selection of high quality vinyl, so don't need to have good customer service. In other words "where else you gonna go?" so you get what you get. I guess I expected more from a niche company like this. They either don't care about their customers or they are just lazy and will ship your order when they feel like it. I might have more understanding if shipping were free, but they actually charge a relatively high shipping fee! I will say, if/when the orders arrive, they are of high quality. I've never had a problem until recently. I pre-ordered the Royal Scam by Steely Dan 20 months in advance. I called and checked on my order many times to make sure that the oldest orders would be filled first, giving me a low serial number. Every time I was assured that this was the case. When the release finally happened, again I was told that this was still the case. A few times I was even told my number should be under a thousand. Well, my order wasn't shipped out the day I received the email saying that it was. I had to email the warehouse manager on Monday, they said there was no way to call them. They didn't return my email but FedEx sent me a notification that my order was ready for them to pick it up. So imagine my surprise that when it finally got here my serial number was 1852. I know that very few people paid for the $150 for the release twenty months in advance. When I called to check on this, I was told that they just pulled them off and filed orders in no order. For twenty months they told me a different story. I've bought a lot of things from them, but that was the last. Poor business practices and they made no effort to improve the situation. read more

Acoustic Sounds provides phenomenal pressings on some vinyl titles. However, their shipping is horrible. When I order, it's often several days before an in stock items ships. To make matters worse, they only offer shipping through FedEx. It's a well known fact that FedEx has horrible unreliable service. My most recent order as placed on 12-2-24 for an in stock item. The item finally arrived on 12-15-24. I was charged 14.00 for shipping as well. I did reach out to Acoustic Sounds on 12-12-24. Just received an order of 4 brand new albums, two of which are double LPs. The albums were packaged very well, and arrived in good order. Unfortunately, one of the LPs had a deep scratch which looked to be a manufacturing defect. However, I called right away and they issued a return ticket immediately. The person I spoke with was courteous and professional. On the remaining albums, the vinyl records were in good condition and all of them were flat, no warping which was a concern. I will continue to be a patron of this business based on their service and quality of care with their products. Also, the place has a good selection of all the classics. read more

They have a good selection of vinyl and ship in a nice sturdy box but their free shipping is the slowest out of all the e-commerce sites I have ever used. It's infuriating that a package can sit in Kansas with FEDEX for 8 days with no movement at all. This has happened numerous times and they have told me that it's normal. Normal? We are living in an Amazon Prime world where the expectations are much higher for transit times. I'm not expecting 2-Day service but having a package sit in Kansas for a week with no movement is unforgivable. This seems to be the biggest complaint with this retailer so I don't understand why they don't do something about it. read more

Absolutely and unequivocally the worst online vinyl buying experiences I have ever encountered. Why? Here is why: Incredibly slow to ship out orders Incredibly slow to process returns/replacements.. Expensive shipping fees . REPEATED failure to send tracking information. I am a repeat customer ( doubtful that will continue) and EACH time NO tracking went out for my orders-in fact , twice the item arrived the same day that somebody bothered sending me a tracking number ( which ONLY occurred after I had to call or email and specifically request one-after waiting usually around 2 weeks for the item to arrive.) On top of this the Returns and Customer service drones- seem barely competent. And the in name only manager "Bud" seems to be an imbecile. (Good name though: Bud - "Light on Customer Service" should be his last name. My return sat unacknowledged for a week after it had been received back. Then my "replacement" never shipped -despite me being sent a false tracking number ( again, only after I asked for one...) DREADFUL. Also their UHQR pressings( costing $100) of Kind of Blue are riddled with pressing defects-see the Hoffman Forums for evidence of repeated complaints. Shop elsewhere. I ordered the new Pink Floyd Animals SACD from these guys. I had two choices only. Either these guys or Music Direct. The only reason I chose Acoustic Sounds was they had another SACD that I wanted. It's taken two weeks now and counting and I still await my SACDs. A call into their customer service and the gentleman on the other end was not courteous at all. I mean, why should I waste his time to check on an order I placed which said it would be here a week ago? Silly me... And I'm only a few states away! Music Direct is the place to go and I will learn that valuable lesson from here on out. They always deliver within a week or even less. First, great selection of music especially jazz and classic rock. Top notch customer service. I am a vinyl enthusiast and cannot express how important, not just good, but important Analogue Productions is. Reissue of great albums in excellent pressings and in most forms, affordable, are great for all who appreciate music. And he best packaging available. Yes, UHQR pressings are pricey. But the selections are of great music, even if the owner pursues personal favorites, most of which I completely agree with. First class materials and royalties are expensive. If you want great pressings, great service, and passion for music, this is the best. read more

I have spent a lot of money with A.S. and have received nothing but the best customer service. I read some of the ratings and I took it upon myself to ask for a tour. Mainly I wanted to address concerns. What I found was a fascinating family owned business that had some growing pains. I've never seen such a large number of employees that love their job, have created a perfect product, and strive for great customer service. They now have 8 full time customer service people that want nothing more than to make your purchase a pleasant experience. After 3 days I emailed customer service. Got standard form reply response. After 8 days and no shipping confirmation I opened a dispute with PayPal. In 6 minutes Acoustic Sounds issued a full refund. The record is still listed in stock. Hell of a way to run a business. This is a record they list for $60 with free shipping. They don't care. I started collecting vinyl again at the beginning of this year, after buying a new audiophile setup in January. I started purchasing from different stores online, including Acoustic Sounds. AC has by far been the best buyer experience for me personally. Their selection of audiophile recordings is second to none. I've had no problems with shipping issues. I appreciate that they don't send orders using USPS media mail, as that's too long for a record to be in transit, especially if the weather is hot. They have the best packaging in the business. I've also had a few records arrive with issues, but their customer service was quick to respond and offer solutions. I've now placed 8 large orders over the last 3 months and don't plan to stop. They care about music and vinyl, which I respect. I don't have much interest purchasing from anyone else. I guess if I were to offer up anything negative, I'd say the website is somewhat outdated. I also wish they offered some type of rewards program for loyal customers. Neither prevents me from coming back tho. I'd like to say thank you to Chad and his staff. Acoustic Sounds is one of the place I order vinyl records. If you don't mind waiting, this store is actually not bad. Not great, not even good. But not bad. The records are packaged very well, but you just don't know when you'll actually get them. While they advertise that they process orders the same day, this store has consistently shipped my orders between 4-6 business days after I placed them. If there's a problem with your order (e.g. record on back-order, even though it was in stock when you place the order, good luck with customer service. They seem indifferent to your concerns). I still keep them bookmarked in my browser, but I would never buy high value items at Acoustic Sounds. I only buy records that aren't available anywhere else and I brace myself for a wait. read more

Buyer beware - Acoustic Sounds will charge your credit card when they don't have the record you ordered in stock (even though the website shows it being in stock) and will not inform you that they can't fulfill your order until you specifically ask why you haven't received it. It took six weeks from the time of purchase to get a refund. I can't recommend Acoustic Sounds. I purchased a record from their online store. The website said it was in stock and they immediately processed my payment. After two weeks checked to see why I had not received shipping confirmation, only to find out that the record was backordered. When I contacted the store they finally replied to say that they sold more copies than they had and that they did not know if or when they would have any additional copies. There was no notification that the record was backordered or out of stock until I specifically asked, despite the fact that they had already charged my credit card. I could have bought the record from another store, but by the time acoustic sounds responded to my inquiry weeks after the purchase it was sold out everywhere. One of the worst experiences I have had with a supposedly "reputable" online record store. I would avoid this store if you can find the item you want anywhere else. read more

Advertise same day shipping for in stock items, didn't ship for five days (incl. weekend), so estimated arrival date became actual shipping date. Asked to return part of the order because they were (time dependent) gifts. Rebuffed with "our times are estimates" & other (lack of) customer service nonsense. New unopened product being returned within a few days just shouldn't be a problem at all, regardless, but especially when they didn't live up to their advertising. Plenty of better vinyl shops around in terms of actual business practices, went with AS on this because of their advertised shipping. My bad, won't make that mistake again. read more

I have had nothing but good experiences with this company. I happened to stumble across unfavorable ratings and I had to post. I have been buying records and CD's from them for years. Orders are filled quickly, completely and packaged well. Sometimes a small delay around holidays and promotions. I almost never pay for shipping as I buy enough for free shipping and I received the orders typically within a 2-5 days. Furthermore, the company produces some amazing sounding remasters. I have recently bought jazz remasters that I never would have considered before. Sound great and I am experiencing new music. I haven't even stepped foot into this audio heaven but I've conducted plenty of business with them over the years. By years I mean no less than eight! While I have received their catalogs since at least 2004, I didn't pull the trigger and order anything until early 2009 (after my tax return naturally). I needed a new turntable, one that wasn't mostly plastic, but affordable. I was attracted to the EU-manufactured Pro-Ject Debut iii, that was then priced at $399 with the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge on a Ferrari red plinth. I phoned the order in and spoke with Chad S. who recommended a good record clamp and made me feel special despite spending less than $500. Present-tense: I've spent thousands on top quality supplies, equipment, and especially viny and SACDs. The two times I received a dud, I had nothing but a positive experience arranging a replacement over the phone. The time zone difference is an uncontrollable circumstance, but I plan accordingly. Only two returns in eight years? Not bad! I especially love the jazz reissues, on 33 1/3 and 45rpm. I've never heard my favorite artists and recordings sound so alive, full, rich, warm and holographic before. As my system gradually improved over the years (e.g. two turntables and three amplifiers later) I derived more enjoyment from active listening sessions. I applaud the other Chad, Chad K., the owner, for dedicating his company to recreating the best sounding classic, jazz, blues, rock, folk and other genres. Long live analog! While I have noted less qualitative application for contract pressing at their Quality Records plant, nearly all of the house labeled records are impeccable. Finally, to testify how impressed I am with this operation, I received an email regarding a recent Prestige Stereo jazz release that evidently has a flaw. Attributed to Chad K. the message promised to replace the LP as soon as it could be replated and repressed. That's service for you! My experience with this company has been bad, leading me to suspect they are corrupt. I received a record from them that was defective and requested a refund. I returned it and rather than give me a refund they issued me a replacement. It is clear to me that my communications asking for a refund were explicitly ignored in the hopes that they could simply force me to accept a replacement. Yes we're talking about 20 bucks here but I admit it's the principle that drives me nuts. They are now insisting that I return the replacement they sent me before they issue the refund. This whole process has gone on for months. This is simply not a company that cares about customer service. When so many (unfortunately true) records pressed today are defective, I would advise you to think twice before ordering from Acoustic Sounds, because if you need to return it, it will not be a smooth process. read more

I only order vinyl and high quality SACD's from this fine company. If I order from Amazon and some others the items arrive more often than not damaged. So even with free shipping (Prime Membership Fee) not worth it. I pay extra for Residential shipping and works out. Also, Acoustic Sounds packages their items with respect for music. Many do not. I consider them curators and purveyors of fine music. This may take some extra days to ship and or due to weather. Worth it though. I have not called them on the phone. I have sent Chat/Email though. They responded promptly and in kind. This was due to over 9 days to deliver. We had bad weather though and a Holiday. Cheers and enjoy the music all. read more

I had to leave a review after seeing the others. Let me start by saying anyone who thinks any business has control of the package once the shipping provider has it just simply does not understand how things work! That being said, I still had no issues in March 2021 with the media mail (finally). This site also seriously had the most shipment options I've ever seen. You can select pretty much any shipment speed from the major 3 shippers and the first upgrade is only $3 more if you are in some sort of crazy music related time crunch. Pretty sure I saw some reviews about poor packaging as well so I included photos of my shipment. Ordered late night Sunday, shipped with tracking information showing the first touch by 3:30pm the next day! It's now the following Monday and the record is in my hands, half way across the country. NOT TO MENTION this record is being sold by flippers on eBay and discogs for 5x the price or more. Thank you! read more

- Can't order digital downloads as gift for someone else. Have to send gift certificate. - Gift certificates are processed manually by just two people, takes days. My brother didn't get the confirmation email in time for Christmas. They've been in business for over two decades, there's no excuse for this amateur hour stuff - Gift certificates include a code number not clearly indicated, that has to be provided when checking out. - Don't expect a response to your customer service request email, you have to call. - Software required to download digital purchases only for Mac or Windows. Linux users have to install in Wine and good luck! Works for now. Next version? Who knows? Acoustic Disc doesn't require this, nor the majority of sites I've downloaded purchased music from. - NONE OF THIS is mentioned up front. Update: I received my vinyl in mint condition and it was VERY well packed. However they still meed to address their tracking and customer service issues. Original review: Super shitty and outdated website provides no tracking information after you place an order. I only purchased from them because they had out of print vinyl. I highly recommend Amazon or another known retailer as the service here is pretty crappy. They desperately need to overhaul their website, it is very hard to navigate, it looks like it was built off an e-commerce plugin from 1998.
