I was excited to explore this school because of how it presents itself as a Montessori environment…read morethat embraces individualized learning. Unfortunately, my experience during our observation left me disappointed. What was advertised did not match what I observed. Rather than meeting children where they are developmentally, there seemed to be an expectation that every child should immediately conform to the classroom routine, including group activities like circle time. I did not observe the child-centered, flexible, and individualized approach that is often associated with authentic Montessori education. I also found the communication about my child's experience to be discouraging. Instead of highlighting strengths, curiosity, or opportunities for growth, the feedback felt largely focused on what my child was not doing. Families of children who may need additional support, whether with communication, development, or transitions, should know that this did not feel like an inclusive environment equipped to help children succeed in different ways. If your school advertises individualized education and a Montessori philosophy, families should expect to see those values reflected in practice. Based on my experience, I felt the marketing was misleading and did not accurately represent the classroom environment we observed. I encourage parents to schedule an observation and carefully evaluate whether the school's philosophy aligns with what is actually happening in the classroom before making a decision.

You won't just find a school here - you'll find a cohesive community of teachers, students, and parents that truly partner together to provide a nurturing yet rigorous educational experience. The low student to teacher ratio allows teachers to truly get to know each student and their individual strengths and needs so they can best support them where they're at. They don't only focus on teaching students academics but also support growth in necessary life skills such as time management, prioritization, social emotional skills, responsibility, and flexibility. They also have a wide array of classes outside of standard academics such as ballroom dancing, drama, Spanish, PE, and art so students have a well rounded experience. I couldn't be happier to have my daughter at MSEO and can't recommend this school enough!

The school brought a love and desire for learning to our child. Our daughter was very shy and struggled to communicate with anyone she didn't associate with on a constant basis and she would cry and hide if she was made the center of attention. The school's natural environment is encouraging children to come out of their shells. It's been an amazing transformation to watch her grow in confidence and learn to love doing something even if people are watching. At our daughter's first parent/teacher meeting the director/primary teacher said "She may never want to get up in front of a group and talk or perform but we will give her tools to use to be able to do it." We watched our daughter dread getting up in front of other to now excited to show off what she enjoys. It's been a beautiful transformation. I've never seen an environment where so many children of all ages love one another so much. The older kids look out for the younger ones and set an example that is exemplary. I feel so at ease that my child is getting good influences from her peers. Her classmates are encouraging to one another and rally to help a classmate in need and cheer them on The teachers and staff truly care about what's best for your child to make sure they are getting what they need and are progressing in their curriculum. They put emphasis on the process of a task over just completing it, so our daughter feels pride doing the steps that lead to the completion of the task just as much as feeling the joy of finishing something. I love that our daughter will have the same teachers for multiple years, I feel this will be invaluable to her growth because they know her and know what her capabilities are. I also love that she gets plenty of one on one time with the teachers as well. Everyone is great at communication if you reach out to them or need something, which is amazing because there is a clear and open dialog for whatever your questions or needs may be. Overall we think its a wonderful school and as a parent you can be as involved as you want to be with the many special events the parent's put on for the children. The existing parents are very welcoming to the new parents.

The teachers will tell you one thing and the owner another. The owner favors certain families and students over others, allowing those children to be bullies, and she has no leadership abilities, she only strives to make certain families happy. The classroom size grew to twice the number after the holidays and none of the parents I spoke with even knew. The children were left to find their own work with little guidance and the teacher indicated that it was going out of her way to have any one-on-one time with the students. They have no regular communication with the parents and the owner is very confused by the concept of parent-teacher meetings. The owner also shows no concern for the well-being of the children, only the happiness of certain families.

Parent orientation was the first clue. This event was both unsocialable and uninformative. On the first day a girl told her child that his water bottle was ugly, and this girl continued to bully him all year. The teacher and administration were fully aware of what was going on and did nothing to stop it. Issues like this surfaced on a regular basis. Personally, I thought that he should be removed from the school when I found out about a lawsuit that had been filed against the school, and the school losing the lawsuit. Tuskawilla Montessori lost the lawsuit because they were inadequately supervising several of the younger children, leading to an incident in which the parents sought legal advice and decided to sue. I would definitely not trust this school to oversee young children. Even though my sister had concerns about this school throughout the year, she tried to make things go smoothly, but there was such a lack of communication from both the owner and between the owner and teachers. According to the teachers everything was always great, but the owner seemed to be persuaded by others and had it in her head that her child was not a "good fit" for the school. However, the owner never communicated any of this until days before school was over. This school has horrible communication, is not able to ensure the safety of their children, and has no regular parent-teacher meetings, which should probably include the owner since she thinks she knows the children more than people who are actually with the child every day. Overall, this school does not put the needs and safety of the children first.

Around May, they sent an email saying that if I wanted to register him for VPK, I needed to fill out a form indicating "yes" and pay $100 to save his spot. They took my $100. My son was taken out for summer break to spend time with family, and he was supposed to return last Tuesday. Last Friday, I decided to stop by to make sure everything was good for his return on Tuesday. The lady at the front desk told me that he would not be in the VPK program because they had not received the form I filled out, and they had given his spot to someone else. I explained that no one had called me, left me a message, or tried to reach me. I also asked what the point of paying $100 was if they were not going to save his spot. They told me he could stay in the 3-4-year-old class. I have emailed them, but no one has responded to me. Basically, I feel like they took my money without providing what I paid for. Luckily, I found a better school for my son, and he is so much happier there. The staff is also wonderful.

The St. James Knights of Columbus and their families volunteer to batter fry delicious fish, make french fries, and various homemade side dishes. The side dishes, except the coleslaw, it's homemade by the parents of the school students. The mac & cheese is so, so, so delicious. The students also have a bake sale to raise money for their cause. The students are also the servers who bring our food and clean off the tables. They are always so sweet and hospitable and the beautiful representation of the type of students that attend St James Cathedral school. They only do the fish fry twice in Lent. But if you have a chance next year check it out! Also, most of the Catholic Churches around the area host fish fries during Lent. And I can tell you their food is top quality! And what a better way to have some fish and chips, then by supporting charitable causes.

Before I enrolled him here I was…read morevery transparent about my son's struggles (I had tried one school before this one that turned out to be a lot better than this one) and explained to them that we were working on getting him acclimated to a school environment since he has only been in school for about 6 months of his life, 4 prior to starting here. Most mornings when I dropped him off I stayed with him for about 30 minutes until the teacher turned on the clean up song before morning snack. I did this because I realized early on the teachers in his classroom were not going to work with him to get him use to the process of his new classroom (he would be expected to know what to do). Me staying had a positive impact on the outcome of his day. My son would need to get to a place where he felt comfortable and welcomed in order to be the best 4 year old he knows how to be. I guess this is a lot to ask of schools these days because they have "23 kids" in a classroom and don't have time to help kids individually. This is detrimental if you really think about it. There has to be an introductory process for kids that are not conformists and more anxious around new settings. He was only at this school for about 2 months. He never really got a fair chance. They were calling me about his behavior within the first week and that's when I knew I made a mistake and it wouldn't work. Calling me less than a week after a kid starts a new school meant in the long run they won't be bothered (hence the reason I started staying and working with him at the school) with his shortcomings. Oh look, I was right! I spoke to Ms Clark on Friday letting her know he was on a waiting list for a therapist to come work with him at the school and by Tuesday (he didn't go to school on Monday) I was called to pick him up for the reason that he was running around the classroom and not wanting to come inside from the playground. The lady at the front desk said my kid squeezed her hand (this is called agression) and he was expelled per the owners request apparently because they couldn't get him under control. I wonder how they got him to the front office to sit? This comes a day after he started his in home behavioral therapy that was designed to help him learn how to interact with others when situations arise in a positive way. I needed my son to learn the patience and communication that's expected of him from the preschool system. Seriously parents how do you do it? How do you get your kids to meet the preschool standards these days? I've tried everything! A lot of kids haven't learned it but they get by I guess. My son is a normal fun loving kid at home. I'm absolutely ok with him as a 4 year old but I do agree he needs help learning transitions and positive communication in a school setting but if I can't depend on a school to work with me on that then what? After noticing the adults running and working at preschools these days don't have patience with kids anymore and not wanting my son to be treated like an outcast I made every attempt that I could to address his behavior concerns at school. As I told the director, I was trying and they had to be blind not to see that. The school on the other hand made little attempt to assist my son with his transition and he learned nothing while there. Of all the mornings I stayed with him he was called ONCE to small center time with the teacher. I really hate to say this but it felt like she didn't want to be bothered with him and if I felt that way then my son was probably no different. My son is his best self when he feels loved. He's needy in that department. He likes hugs and needs to feel loved to do well. Never let people make you feel like you don't know your kids both positive and negative. I'm aware and I needed this school to be a school. ALL stages of development are important. My son has only been in this world for 4 years and i'm no longer burdening him with the crazy expectations placed on young kids (be good but I don't have time to teach you. Just know how & fast). I'm going to skip the preschool system and work with him in other ways as I was doing before I enrolled him here. Thank God he's a sponge and quick learner. He really loves to learn. He will get to where he needs to be with no help from this institution. As someone who has worked at an exceptional Montessori school in a different state I will NEVER understand preschools who give up on 4 year olds. I was made to feel like my kid was so abnormal when I know he's not because there were kids in his class just like him plus my years of working with kids I knew better. I knew some kids are just more difficult than others and that doesn't make them awful. I felt so bad I started to use terms like "maybe he's on the spectrum". Shame on me for that! This was definitely a rant but I paid a lot of wasted money for this opinion so there it is.
