CBJ is a minority owned business that has been and is, truly an asset to the Bronzeville community, and is a business that is greatly needed, during my battle with years of going in and out of the hospital from respiratory failure from an unknown gluten allergy, and life support ( ten times ) i couldn't w8, and CBJ was there! and during my battle with prostate cancer, surgery and radiation treatments, the guys at CBJ were there, and understanding and greatly helpful, especially when I was flat broke hungry, or needing food for my pets, medication costs, phone bill, etc, or if I just needed to come up with quick cash, and above of all, they've always been respectful to all who come through those doors looking for help, I've watched many times, and they've never been disrespectful to black people or anyone else who's came in, unlike some of the other pawnshops in the area, ( where I've worked) the guys at CBJ were by my side during the hardest time in my life, losing my immediate family, health issues, legal problems, paying bills, helping my kids, and they've been greatly helpful for good things, luke when my kids need money, preparing for tours etc, and I can honestly say that they went and go, above and beyond their call of duty, and the main thing is no one can say that they've not been treated with respect by the guys at CBJ, being a Chicago bluesman, and unable to work, I couldn't have made this far without CBJ, they're truly like family, and they truly have the lowest rates in town, unlike many pawnshops in the area, that cheat the community and steal from people, the guys at CBJ aren't like that, I guess being in an oppressed minority themselves, they've suffered from the same problems, unlike some of the other pawnshops in the area, these guys fully understand what hard times are for you, and these gentlemen are honest, trustworthy and truly try to be of help, and I personally would say CBJ is one of of Bronzevilles most greatly needed businesses and assets to the people of our community and the nearby areas, who might be enduring financial/health issues etc, I hope that this undirected energy that is destroying or neighborhood, can be soon redirected on the real issue, which is seeking true justice, and having the killer or so called bad apple police, charged the same as anyone else who commits a murder, but without a doubt, destroying our own neighborhood and our stores are not the answer, when it's over we won't have anything at all! I hate going to pawnshops. Usually it's because I'm in a jam and need quick money. That is until I found CBJ Corporation. The store is clean and the staff is very respectful. The most important thing about this company is they are fair. They will give you a fair amount on your items. I feel I can trust them. After going to the pawnshop on 51st Street for years and being treated and cheated, I found this store and I am so glad. I'm an Entertainer And a childhood student of Mr. Buddy Guy, The King Of the Blues And I've performed with some of the true Chicago Blues legends, But back in 2011, I started having serious health problems and I was sidetracked, and hospitalized for the first time in my life, in ICU and on life support, With respiratory failure, and this happened to me over a dozen times, over the course of seven years, And after many years of suffering on and off life support and the side effects of massive doses of medications that didn't work for me, I discovered that I had developed Celiac disease, and a serious gluten/Oats allergy, that caused the respiratory failure, And as soon as I started recovering In mid 2017 I started suffering severe fatigue, And was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, I had the operation in January of this year, And although my Doctors were unable to remove all the cancer damaged cells, they removed enough for me to function and perform again, Unfortunately during the time of fighting my illness, My older brother passed away from pancreatic cancer and my younger sister passed away from MS, Both apparently brought on by a genetic predisposition of undiagnosed Celiac disease During this time I faced crushing financial problems, And lost the help from the last of my family My credit was in shambles, ( And it wasn't that good to begin with!) And I also faced numerous lawsuits from being unable to fulfill some of my obligations and agreements in entertainment, And although I have some friends in entertainment that are like family, After getting so much help already, you really don't want to just keep asking for help, And ask anyone to fully support you, And that's where CBJ has been a true blessing for me These are some great guys that show compassion, , And they have some of the coolest merchandise in Chicago, unique Jewelry, Designer clothing and shoes, TV's, tools, bikes and new and used musical Instruments and gear, And some stuff that might surprise you to find it there This place is fairly new, as far as southside Pawnshops go, And they have security cameras, and ample parking in a side lot or right in out in front, both just steps from the door But the thing is, these guys are truly human and have compassion and understanding, And If you bring in something of value, they'll truly try to work with you, , , And they give you top dollar for your pawn, sell or trade, And most of all they are very respectful and they treat you fair, ( Which in my book, is Not taking advantage of someone for their lack not knowledge of the true value of their merchandise) And as someone who's formerly worked in three Chicago Pawnshops, I know the true importance of treating customers Who might be going through hardships, with respect and compassion, It's only human!
