I knew by Day 4 of our Mt. Dessert Island vacation, that I'd be lobstered-out and would need fruit…read moreand vegetables. That's why I bookmarked Beech Hill Farms ("BHF") in Yelp. I understood that BHF has a great Farm Market. BHF delivered on that and more. I arrived 10 minutes before BHF opened its gate at 9 am. By 9, five different cars had parked nearby so they could have pick of the Market. The customers mostly seemed like local Mainers, but there were some folks taking pics as well. After I parked, I scurried to the Market and didn't notice the surrounding area yet. The produce looked beautiful with its purples, greens, oranges, reds, yellows and dark blues. I bought fresh wild Maine blueberries, cucumbers, carrots, a multi-colored bell pepper, yellow-orange heirloom tomatoes, an eggplant and mixed salad greens. The blueberries were delicious. I made a great dinner salad with the non-eggplant veggies. I'll grill the eggplant tomorrow. I bought a few other local products. A baguette that was terrific with a local blue cheese I also bought from BHF. Granola I haven't tried yet. And a blueberry pie made by "Gayle Arnold Tucker". I don't know who that is, but in my mind she's a 5th Generation local pie legend. The crust was to-die-for and the blueberry filling had great flavor and consistency. BHF also sold things such as milk, eggs, honey, kimchi, jarred products and beverages. It was a terrific-looking farm Market with great stuff. After my purchases, I explored the grounds. There was a green house with row after row of farm fresh and fragrant garlic and things like starter vegetables. Picnic tables. Fruit trees. And my favorite thing of all - rows of gorgeous wild flowers that were a big draw for bees and . . . the most monarch butterflies I've ever seen in one naturally occurring place. I don't even know how many there were. I saw five at a time when I was looking up. I spent about 15 minutes taking butterfly photos and got some awesome pics. I limited myself to one in the Yelp photos I posted. The flower photo opportunities are also outstanding. I'll put my BHF pics up against my Acadia pics any day. If you like exploring Farmers Markets and/or great photo opps, I guarantee you'll enjoy Beech Hill Farms, at least in August. Five Stars

I kind of don't want to post a review for this place because it's like a hidden gem and I'm not…read moresure that I want to share it with the world. Good news is that we are in Maine and it's kind of off the beaten path...so I'm not sure that my review is going to have such a huge impact. But seriously, this place is magical. They might have the most beautiful apple orchard ever. It's like the kind of place that should be used to film a movie and a great location for a wedding-which they offer for a very reasonable rate. On our most recent visit, we picked apples, walked along the grounds, fed the chickens, looked at the sheep, talked to the owner, and bought apple cider. The apples are delicious and they had a good selection to choose from. It's the kind of property that I would want to live on if I didn't have a fear of living in the middle of nowhere.

No one cleaned them up - I had to clean them myself. This was bizarre. There was no housekeeping service either. The heater did not work. My friend stayed downstairs and my friend hurt herself on the bathroom step because there's no light and there's a big step. She broke her foot! The manager didn't seem to care one bit. It ended up costing her thousands of dollars and it ruined our trip. The manager/owner is weird and grandiose and just, well, frankly bizarre. Not really "host-like" if you know what I mean. Not much information about where to go or what to do. The grounds are beautiful and there is a lovely lake and orchards that are breathtaking. There are charming chickens. But for the money? Go up the road to the Tipsy Butler for OUTSTANDING service, wonderful hospitality, and NO BROKEN BONES.

I love it here. The staff is so friendly, they always say hi. And the prices? All I can say is "oh…read moremy goodness "! Unbelievable! The cereal I love is $6.00 at any other store, but here it is $2.25. Some things will be past the date by a little. But you just look at the date. Most everything I get isn't out of date for 6months to a year. They have everything! Frozen meats, pizza and more. They have fresh produce, they have eggs, milk and bread. I buy all my husband's snacks for the week. I just bought cranberry juice there 6 pack bottles of 100% juice. $2.50 a six pack. No way you're going to come close to that price anywhere else. They have a baking isle with good brand name products such as nestle chocolate chips and sugar flour and spices. They have coffee, k-cups and tea. They have a vegetable and condiments isle with soups and spaghetti sauce. I got a glass jar of pasta sauce and very good brand name for $2.00 and change. It's almost $6.00 at other stores. And they also have fresh bakery good when you first come through the door with cookies and fresh baked pies as well as bread and rolls. Homemade jars of pickles and jams as well as honey and maple syrup. I can't say enough about this store. I can fill a cart for around $150.00 with everything from breads, cereals, frozen foods, snacks, canned vegetables, coffees, baking goods and more. I went to my local grocery store the other day and 2 bags cost me over $70.00. Now I'm not saying anything bad about other stores, but just want to express the difference in the savings by shopping here. The store is clean, bathroom facilities are clean which is nice as I have a 40 minute drive to get there from home but it is worth it. I actually get excited every week to go because i know I'm saving a ton of money but it's also exciting because every week I go they will always have different items they didn't have the week before. Like this past week they had the cranberry juice and my cinnamon Cheerios with the granola. They had my husband's favorite granola bars with yogurt and they even have his protein and cliff bars most weeks. They also have toilet paper, laundry detergent, health and beauty items and trash bags, paper plates, diapers, dog food, cat food, dog treats and more. You can get about anything you need here. Give it a try, you will be glad you did.

It feels easy to get around with your cart even when there is a lot of people. The selection of food changes week to week. They utilize foods that maybe were not being used in other places. I forget how they explain it on the sign above the register. But it's food that otherwise I think would go to waste. The food is really good. I find all sorts of unique things and even some locally baked breads and treats. There's always fresh produce too. They grow some of it. They also have Christian greeting cards, which I love. They do take cash or card, so it's really convenient. And again, they are always super kind. The parking lot is pretty big; I have ever had a problem. Best prices.
