baked crab hand roll
Jasmine D.

Stumbled across the newly opened Caya with my friends as we were looking for a spot for our Saturday evening dinner, and we're so glad we did! We loved how modern yet cozy and comfortable the atmosphere was. Service was amazing as well! It's a bit of an upscale and pricier spot but the food was delicious! What we tried: - Spicy tuna crispy rice - our server recommended this and we loved it! A solid and simply delicious appetizer with great flavor and texture - Baked crab handroll - if you like crab you'll surely love this hand roll - Sizzling wagyu ribeye - comes out sizzling and super tender - Uni udon carbonara - the portion size was small for the price and thought the noodles were slightly over cooked - Eagle Rock roll - delicious and full of flavor and textures - Creme brûlée - a perfect dessert to end our meal and a great dessert to share! Parking: a couple spots in the back, or nearby street/neighborhood parking

Otoro Sashimi, absolutely delicious.

When it comes to CAYA, I truly don't know where to start. Upon entrance to the newly remodeled venue, the first thing that hits is class and elegance. You get the vibe of stepping into a high end sushi establishment with the 5 star treatment to back it up. Big props to the owner, Calvin, for welcoming each guest and also following up on each dish with individual attention with a full restaurant... The servers were also on par with attentive service flowing with the atmosphere. That Otoro ranks at the top Ive indulged and the Wagyu Ribeye leaves you wanting to order another just for flavor. Definitely looking forward to going back in the future.

Came here tonight to celebrate a bday party. This used to be MIA Sushi for over 10 years. Its the owner's son running it now. They rented next door and completely remodeled everything to a more modern hip sushi place. We loved it! Ambience is sexy and food was amazing! Not ur typical sushi restaurant. Very uniques. I highly recommend it! Thank you guys for coming back ! We've missed a good sushi spot...

Amazing sushi spot! The sashimi was incredibly fresh, and the menu featured many creative and delicious dishes. The steak was especially outstanding--perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. The restaurant also has a modern, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Loved this place. The space is beautiful, with a great sushi bar and a really nice bar area that makes it just as good for drinks as it is for dinner. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious, and they have a great sake selection. The whole place has a really cool, relaxed vibe. One of the owners, Justin, was there and came over to say hi. He was incredibly friendly and down to earth and made us feel really welcome. Great food, great sake, great atmosphere, great service. Definitely a new addition to the neighborhood worth checking out. We'll absolutely be back.

Caya was such a nice surprise. The atmosphere is modern and cozy, and the food felt really thoughtful. The sushi was fresh, the rice was seasoned well, and nothing felt overly heavy. Service was friendly and attentive too. Great spot for a date night or dinner with friends.

Shrimp and vegetable tempura

This newly renovated building has a very calming aesthetic and nice music! It once was Mia's sushi which we liked. We were eagerly greeted and checked on frequently throughout our meal by many people. Food was presented nicely and was very tasty! The tempura shrimp and vegetables were not greasy like a lot of places and fresh and hot! The spicy edamame was dry fried and not full of oil. Which I liked! The spicy tuna on crispy rice was good and had sliced red jalapeños which was a different touch. We also had miso soup, spicy tuna roll and shrimp tempura roll. Our waitress "Lisa" I think, was super friendly and helpful. Nice to have another sushi option in the neighborhood! We will come again!

Scallop and Blue Crab handrolls. Excellent must-get items

Our crew of 3 stopped by this brand new sushi restaurant on the way to Walt's Bar. We were surprised by the dishes; this isnt your typical LA sushi roll factory. They have put effort into making ordinary dishes special... the tempura and crispy rice tuna had excellent textures, taking them far beyond what you usually find in LA. The crispy rice reminded me of original KatsuYa in 2006, with the properly-sized block of rice freshly-fried to order. My favorite were the two handrolls we ordered; the Blue Crab and the Spicy Scallop. We ended up getting a second round so we all ate 2 of each of those. The crunch ingredients contribute a lot to the flavor of the handrolls, and the blue crab is much chunkier than the shredded mayo meat you usually get. They were also much bigger than what you'd get at Kazunori. I would certainly come by again if in the neighborhood... looking forward to trying their Nigiri sushi selection next time!

We ordered 3 rolls and 2 hand rolls and it was the perfect amount. The chefs #1 roll was our absolute favorite! Could not get enough of it. We also got the lemon and yuzu roll which were both very delicious as well. I would definitely come back here. The fish was fresh and service was great. Only downside was because it's in the middle of DTLA there's not a lot of parking on the street. However it's right across from Japanese village which is attached to a parking structure. The Assorted Sashimi was fun for the two of us to each try 6 premium pieces. Everything tasted fresh and high quality with a different garnish accompanying each piece! The cucumber salad was refreshing and crunchy to munch on in between sushi bites. Their Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice surprised me with an arrangement of flavors and textures that went together magically. I would have gotten a second order if stomach space wasn't a concern. Next we had the Yellowtail Sashimi, which of course had sliced jalapeño on top. I don't care how many restaurants put that out, it's always fantastic. The only roll we got was the Cherry Blossom roll, I was intrigued by the menus indication that it didn't have rice. A large roll with 11 pieces came out that was 95% fish, the remaining 5% being bits of avocado and two sauces that paired exquisitely. It tasted excellent. Our server recommended their Kid Season sake which was exactly what I was looking for: filtered and semi sweet. Highly recommend!

It was definitely not what I've expected or ever experienced in a Japanese restaurant. We were quickly greeted by the staff and be seated by the wall. The upholstery of our seats were torn. The area where we were sitting was a bit too dark and could definitely add more lights for customers to see their menus. After giving a look at the menu, our server asked if we were ready. I said it's our first time so we need some time to look through the menu. She replied ok and left. We mainly ordered sushi items. Servers brought over each item one at a time. When I almost finished mine, my family is still waiting for theirs. You do see the staff walk by the tables constantly. However, I would hope the servers would ask how is everything and if we need anything else. Overall, sushi tastes fine. I probably won't be back given the experience that we had.

The atmosphere is great if you love intimate bar seating, the service is warm and cordial, and the drinks are very good. I also really liked the amount and variety of dishes served outside of the nigiri, so the meal felt substantial and well paced. The food itself was good and well executed, but for the price point, I was hoping for something more memorable or distinctive. A lot of the dishes and flavor profiles felt very familiar and similar to what I've had at many other more traditional omakase experiences. Nothing was bad by any means, but there wasn't a particular bite or flavor combination that surprised me or stayed with me afterward. The second time I came here, they had firefly squid (in season) which was a delight. If you're newer to sushi or omakase, I think this would be a great experience. But if you eat omakase frequently, there are other places around this price point that I think offer something a little more unique or memorable.

The tofu sampler was very solid in my opinion, which if you like a strong soy flavor, this appetizer is for you. I've never had tofu presented this way so it was a unique experience, although loosely reminds me of the Chinese version of tofu dessert but firmer. Fun to interact with the different salt adds too. The chirashi set bowl was also an excellent value for what you get. It definitely fills you up and the fish cuts are very nice. They even offer to fry your shrimp head to add to the experience. Also I think the service was great. There was clearly a new person in training so she may have messed up our tofu sampler presentation by perhaps pairing the wrong salt with the wrong tofu but the regular staff was quick to address. The newer member also charged us a beer by accident but that was corrected too.
