Great tour and friendly staff. Wish it was a little longer. Overall would recommend.

Had an amazing time in the Caverns today! Our guide, Andrew, even kept the kids engaged and in awe. Highly recommend on your trip out to natural bridge

My three siblings and I came here for my sister's 19th birthday and it was the best decision! We had an amazing tour and tour guide was fabulous. The gift shop was just as great and had very reasonable prices which is rare at most souvenir stores. We also did the gem mining and had a blast. I could not recommend this place enough! From start to finish the experience was better than we could've dreamed and the staff were the most welcoming wholesome people!

Nice cavern to visit when you are in the area, or as part of your Cave & Karst trail down Virginia's mountains. This one has a long entry tunnel and lots of steps. A few low spots for tall people to watch out for. The guide was very nice and patient with us taking photos. This cavern is very alive with lots of dripping water. It does have some green growth from human interaction/lights, but not too bad on damage with people touching the formations. It also has some cool giant boulders and crevasses. You don't get to see the whole thing, but the tour is still worth it. Wear a jacket and good shoes. I was able to use my monopod to get nice photos. They have a well stocked gift shop with reasonable prices. You can buy a gem bag and take it out back to the sluice to pan for pretty rocks (good for kiddos.) On Thursday the tours were every hour at the top of the hour.

Glad we discovered the caverns while visiting the land bridge. This is a state run location not commercial and it shows, they are concerned about maintenance and limited disturbances. Likewise they will tell you about some student projects and show you the entrance to areas for experts. I felt good about supporting this type of location and would encourage others to when in the area. As a history person it was cool to hear about the initial discovery and learn about their more recent finds as well as the changes due to various occurrences. Caves are a cool Virginia feature worth visiting, just remember to watch you step and your head when navigating the caves.

Definitely worth checking out if you in to these kind of things! The history behind this cave and who found it is pretty cool. The fact that the temperature of the cage is the same all year is cool. Our tour guide was awesome he was so funny and good with the history! It's definitely is slippery and steep steps but worth it. My little kids made it through so with kids it's still fun. When they do the lights out that is awesome. You can not see anything but it's a awesome experience! As long as nobody has a phone or watch going off it's cool!

We came here on a Sunday afternoon after going to the Natural Bridge National Park. Our tour guide was great, he was funny and informative. Our 45 minute guide made that time go by quick. The tickets to the Park is separate from the Cavern. The Cavern did offer military discount. Make sure you were tennis shoes and a sweatshirt since it is slippery and in the 50's inside the cavern.

This was a great stop with very funny tour guides. They made this tour so much fun. Was a great way to spend a rainy day. I would recommend to anyone in the area. Be a strong walker, can be slippery inside and about 47 steps and 350 feet of climbing.

This was definitely a more natural cavern, and it was by far one of the best. Our tour guide Ryan was awesome and made it fun and exciting. The only thing I would say is this requires a bit more athletic ability than Luray and other industrialized caverns...lots of stairs, but a great workout with beautiful scenery. Bring a jacket!

My first caverns I've ever been to. I had a blast! The staff and tour guides friendly. This is a great place to take the family or friends to. I recommend wearing a shoe with good grip and a long sleeve shirt. The cave is cold and a little wet. This is the deepest cave you can go to on the east coast dipping down 350ft

The Museum is a relatively small building on the street (with exhibits primarily on one floor), with Wilson's birthplace in a home a few doors down. Despite the small size, the exhibits did a decent job of highlighting some of the positives (League of Nations, less dependence on tariffs for government income, workmen's compensation, among others) and negatives (the guy was, shall we say, not supportive of integration when it came to African Americans). We spent about an hour in the Museum, including a few minutes in the WWI trench exhibit in the basement. All very interesting, well presented, and easy to understand. The highlight of our time was the docent-led tour of the Wilson home. Although Wilson lived in the home only for his first 18 months, the docent told a number of stories about Wilson's parents, Wilson's life there and later and it was a fascinating almost-hour time touring the building, asking questions and hearing the history.

I recommend taking the guided tour of Wilson's boyhood home and then visiting the museum. It's located in a residential neighborhood next to Mary Baldwin college. The staff was very friendly and they have a well stocked gift shop. Plenty of parking. I really enjoyed the WWI exhibit down stairs and the President's automobile. I did learn quite a bit about post WWI and the woman's suffrage movement. If you enjoy Presidential history this is a good museum.

You can load up on green beans, beets, beans, stewed tomatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy fried chicken, oven baked chicken, pulled chicken, cornbread, biscuits, and a soup. Your waiter/waitress will come around and offer refills of whatever you'd like and also bring refills of drinks and/or jams/jellies/butters/hot sauce etc to your table. Service was quick and so so so friendly. The price is $28 for the buffet and I didn't think it was the absolute best meal I've had but I loved the history behind it. I wish we got seated in the main dining area but I guess we'll have to come back another time as well! Charlie, our server, was an absolute gentleman and so attentive to our group! We even got a bowl of ice cream with some scotch John sauce as it was insisted we had to try. Will be back again when in the area :)

The lake was perfect for swimming in: great temperature, clean, and a lot of grassy shore space along the side. There was large grass areas where one could play frisbee or do other outdoor games. The campground is well-maintained, clean, and has a number of amenities that make camping convenient. Campers have access to flush toilets as well as showers. The facilities aren't particularly fancy but it's camping -- if you wanted fancy, you should stay indoors :) Prices were reasonable as well. $15 a night for a single site. Single site campsites come with a large parking space, a picnic table, and a firepit. Most of the spots are well shaded, and there is easily enough space for a large family tent or a few smaller tents. The campground has access to a number of trail heads and within a short driving distance, even more trails are available. Some trails are short and suitable for beginning hikers, others more challenging with steep inclines and a number of switchbacks up the mountain. Some are also perfect for day hikes as well. Located nearby is the Appalachian Trail as well as the James River (one can rent kayaks, canoes, etc.). The campground is nearby to Natural Bridge, VA -- which has a large natural bridge one can pay to see -- and Lexington, VA -- which has a cute downtown area to walk through and some nice restaurants to eat at.

We were a bit nervous about an 8 mile hike, but decided we were going to take it on. That hike was no joke, it kicked my butt. However, I did it and I am not someone in amazing shape by any means. There were some very steep/uphill parts and some stretches that were mostly flat. Trail was well marked. I was happy for the variation and we stopped as needed. It is doable, its just long. They say it takes you about 4 hours, which was accurate for us as we arrived around 10am, finished about 2pm. We did the AT trial up and decided to go for the fire road (runs basically parallel but isn't as strenuous) back as we were already tried. I highly recommend this if you not a serious hiker. Most everything I read kept saying you need to get their early as it gets so busy. That wasn't our experience, but it was an unseasonably colder, windy day so that probably deterred people. We also went on a Thursday to help reduce crowd as recommended. Note there are no bathrooms near parking. We found an outhouse near one of the camping sites about 2/3 way up, which we were grateful for. I am not sure it is being maintained regularly, so bring your own TP and hand sanitizer. Now, the view once you get to the top is absolutely beautiful. You can see out so far while you sit/stand on the rocky overlook. I even slowly inched my way out to the very tip of the rock to get the full 360 view. Breathtaking! We brought some snacks to eat up there to replenish (do this) and enjoy the views. We didn't stay up there as long as I would have liked as it was quite cold with the wind when we no longer had the tree cover. Dress appropriately! After we finished the hike, we took a long nap at our Airb&B. I am not sure I would choose to do it again, but I feel very accomplished that we completed this trail and enjoyed the views and our picutres very much.

I thought it would be empty on Thanksgiving, but it was pretty crowded. We got a parking spot just fine, but the lot was fairly full. The hike is rated as strenuous, but I thought it was moderate. It's about 4 miles to Mcafee Knob from the parking lot making it 8 miles round trip. We took the Appalachian Trail on the way there and the fire road on the way back. The fire road is flatter and wider--an easier hike overall. Parts of the AT were covered in leaves making it a bit hard to hike. Everyone says the last mile is hard. It's uphill but I didn't find it to be too steep. The views at the end are gorgeous. Luckily it wasn't too crowded and we didn't have to wait to get our picture. We didn't stay at the top long because it was incredibly windy which made it pretty cold even though the rest of the hike was comfortable. The whole hike with stops took us just under 4 hours. With views and difficulty combined, we thought it was a great hike!
