The best stay in our entire week of travels through the southwest! Pat and Whiskey are warm and…read morefriendly innkeepers, and so is their beautiful two-year old labrador, Charley. The hotel is clean and bright. Rooms are a bit on the small side, but comfortable and decorated in cool, relaxing colors. Wifi works well, and breakfast was the best! There are many B & B's to choose from, but I think we really got lucky in choosing this one. The hotel is located about a five minute walk from the seaside and only five minutes to the old Abbey. The Wellsway enjoys a Visit Britain 4 Star Guest Accommodation. Conveniently located in a quiet, tree lined avenue, with off road parking, you will only have a short stroll to the Sea Front, the town and harbour is within easy walking distance. Only 200m from the Riviera Conference Centre, Torre Abbey and Gardens. Torquay has a very cosmopolitan feel with a range of boutiques, wine bars, bistros and restuarants to choose from. The neighbouring town of Paignton has its own Cinema, Zoo and Waterpark. You can also enjoy the gardens of Oldway Mansion which is worth a visit. The dining room has a sunny aspect. Our guests can choose from a light buffet or a full English breakfast. Evening Meals are also available. The rooms at the Wellsway are maintained to a high standard with an equally high level of cleanliness. Th

Premier Inn Torquay Hotel - Traditional seaside hotel turned into a Premier Inn. Great location at Torquay beach!

Location, Location, Location! Could there be a better spot for a Premier Inn at an iconic seaside…read moreresort? The beach is across the road from the hotel and a ten to fifteen minute stroll gets you into the town along the promenade. Torquay Premier Inn is untypical in that its not purpose built by the chain, rather an older hotel thats been converted, which is perhaps why our room was a little bigger than the norm. All the usual Premier Inn features apply here like super comfy Hypnos beds, free wifi throughout, bar and restaurant on site (Beefeater), and lovely staff. I spotted a guy touching up the hallway paintwork suggesting that there is a bit of a refresh ongoing. That said our room was clean, fresh and the decor was right up to date. We could open the windows, not something you can always do at PI, though I was woken by sound of loud seagulls in the morning one time. Well it is the seaside! We had hoped to make use of the hotel bar on our last night after returning from an evening event. Unfortunately for this Premier Inn the bar closed right on 11pm - about the time we hoped to have a few drinks. Some hotels in this chain keep the bar open for residents, so we were pretty disappointed to end our evening early, and would have stayed in the town if we had known. Forewarned is fore-armed. We'll know next time. Don't be put off by the tired exterior paintwork of this hotel. I'm sure they'll be attending to it soon. Inside its all good! We got an amazing rate midweek late September. Absolute bargain. Recommended. Tip: This hotel has parking for guests only and requires you to register your car's details at reception on arrival. Car parking in Torquay, especially free car parking, is very much at a premium, so plus points to Premier Inn. We arrived a good few hours before check-in and they were more than happy for us to park up and head into town.

The food was awful at breakfast the hot food was cold even when it came fresh out from the kitchen we just had cereal and toast most morning. The evening meals were not any better the prawn cocktail had hardly any prawns mostly it consistently of lettuce leaves we were told by our waitress that the people in the kitchen worked to photos of how the meals should look on the plates. One of our party had his meal on paper which dissolved when he was eating so he ended up eating the paper with his meal when we complained we were told it was company policy to do this unbelievable. The final night we ate out at Wetherspoons and had a much better meal there. We will never go there again. Helen

I think it is an overstatement to say I am a fan…read more I'm dropping it star for the totally disgusting iron they supplied. I took it back to reception, and they immediately understood. A replacement came rather quickly which was good. Still slightly dirty, but not as bad as the previous one. The person delivering the iron said it was new and had been purchased in July 2016. OK. So it's the guest's fault. It took me about a minute to scrape the stuff stuck to the iron with a razor blade. If I can do that then surely the hotel can clean the iron. I just don't what goes through people's minds. Why on earth they thought first iron could be used is anyone's guess. The hotel is ideal for families. However, I cannot judge all of the facilities as we were only staying a night, and eating out. We used the pool, which the day before had had problems due to turning green (seems familiar given what happened in RIO). It was a cloudy blue when we used it. I did ask the attendant if there was a placing of towels in the mornings, and she said yes. Apparently, no generalisation can be assigned to the Germans. Seems the Brits have the bug too. Also tends to be fight for the parasols too. There is also an indoor pool, not used by us. The outside one didn't appear heated, but once in I felt OK, and so did the kids. I was not able to charge to my room as I was only staying one night, but they accepted my debit card, and, of course, cash. There was a late bar available near to the pool are until midnight. There is an "Aztec" games' area. The kids visited, and seemed happy. I wish I'd got the name of the person' name on reception as she was very helpful, and empathised about the iron. Not a cheap hotel. We got a family room with a double bed and two singles for £184 for the night, that included breakfast. The bathroom was quite small, but a strong force of water from the shower. I guess the bathroom was made small to accommodate the beds. Breakfast. Your table is reserved for you on a board, with your name, and number of guests. I thought this was quite good. No waiting. Usual breakfast buffet help yourself fare. There was also, upon request: porridge, boiled eggs, poached eggs, kippers, haddock, and warm croissants. Several toasting machines, and fruit juices, and cereal. I think there was something there for everyone. I don hate the type of Brit that piles there plate as though a famine is going to ensue, or even going up again for seconds. Sorry, for me, wrong message. Tattoos seem to be the new fashion accessory and there were plenty on display. Again, not my cup of tea, but whatever floats your boat. To sum up. Great for families, and ideally placed for Torquay centre. I was able to park on the front close to the reception, but there's plenty more at the back of the hotel. This hotel is part of a chain: Torquay Leisure Hotels, and also features: Victoria Derwent carlton Thoorak They also have self-catering apartments. I found the staff to be friendly.
