In late November, 2016, I contracted Roger at "The Grove Handyman" on Angie's List to have a…read morebathroom wall repaired following a leak in the pipes. I was quoted a good price and the appointment was arranged. The property is a unit I was preparing to rent and I was out of town, so a friend let the workers in. They were instructed to call him so he could view the work before they left. The worker called me and said the work was done. He sent me a picture after he left and after he returned the keys. He took the bathroom hardware off the wall for the repair and failed to put it back on. I contacted Roger and he informed me that the pipe for the faucet was too short. I don't know why the worker would tell me "it's all done," when it obviously wasn't. Roger said he would have to send someone else out on another day and he would have to charge me a callout fee - to complete the work his staff failed to finish. As I had a tenant moving in the next week, I had no choice. On the second appointment, a different worker said "it's all done," but he is the one person in North America with a cell phone that doesn't take photos. Roger's tone via text message after both visits was not an example of excellent customer service. He did not offer any assurance that everything was as it should be or apologize that his staff failed to complete the work properly the first time. In April, 2017, my tenant contacted the property manager to inform him that the faucet had become completely detached from the wall and pipe. The property manager left a voicemail for Roger, but he never called back. I called the next day and my call went to voicemail as well. The greeting stated that Roger would be out of town from the following day. Unfortunately, before he went out of town, he never returned my or the property manager's call. We had to hire another contractor to fix the inadequate work done by the Grove Handyman staff. I emailed Roger and explained the situation and provided him with a copy of the charges incurred to fix the faucet again as well as a photo. Roger refused to compensate me because he thought the charge of $260 was too high and because he didn't see it himself. This entire situation has been completely unacceptable. The original job was not completed. I was charged additional fees to complete the job on a second visit. The work performed was not done correctly and only lasted 4 months. And I was not compensated or refunded for having to hire another company. I strongly advise against hiring "The Grove Handyman" for any work. The company is a typical South Florida contractor that does shoddy work, doesn't communicate properly and doesn't stand behind their work.

Needing just a few house repairs, I called upon his services to patch up some…read moreholes, fix some leaks, etc. After deciding he was a nice and honest guy with top notch service, I explained that I'd soon be moving to Brazil and I'd likely need someone I could call on a dime in case my tenant needed a handy man. As expected, I called Roger a year later (from Brazil) and had him head to the townhouse to fix some plumbing and help with some painting. He even brought in an electrician to handle a light issue. I paid him after his work via PayPal. He's been quick to respond every time and continues to deliver in terms of service, quality and honesty. Good dude, good work!

If you'd like to make a friend, Al is your man... if you want *quality* work done in your home I would think twice about using Al's service. I was not going to write a review, however I owe it to everyone to be honest about our experience so you all can make an informed decision. We hired Al for a pretty extensive job, remodling our newly bought home. At first we walked away from his offer because of the many bad reviews we read. He then offered a very affordable price range. We accepted. He has since finished the job and here are the top 12 issues we have with the job (many more problems not stated). 1. Many nails were left in the floor after he put te vinyl down. The floors and floorboards were put down (poor quality), but what uspset me and mh roomate is that she got a nail stuck in her foot because Al's team was so negligent. 2. The closet racks have begun to fall down as we put clothes on them. He took down the racks to paint, but did not reinforce them. This is VERY dangerous. 3. The electical work was very bad. We have lights that dont work properly. 4. Al's team did not install what they said they would. We still had our bathroom sink and lights not installed. The kitchen formica was not installed. So much was left undone. 5. The paint job was HORRIBLE. Oh my goodness. I was shocked at the paint that was everywhere (on our sliding glass door, on our new floors, on counters)... everywhere! They even painted over our new switches. Not only that, but the actual paint job was mindblowing. His team does not have the ability to paint in a straight line. Every time we asked for touch up, it became worse. 6. Sawdust was everywhere because they cut the floorboards in the rooms. Its been over a week and we are still breathing the sawdust. My roomate wakes up every morning witth a swollen face from allergies from sawdust (after sweeping 4x a day, mopping 2x a day, its still there). 7. We were shocked at how dirty the house was. Not just the sawdust, which they attempted to wipe down... but the team used our restrooms and we would find pee on the seats and their personal materials in our house. 8. They broke our blinds. 9. Uneven baseboards. I am in shock. Just look at the pictures. 10. Lack of caulking. We have uneven steps and really shoddy work all around. Caulking could have helped him cover the weaknesses, but he only partially did that when we complained. 11. He promised 2 weeks, he took almost double the time. Every day after 2 weeks he said he would be finished. To his credit, when we mentioned that my roommate was bleeding and then again when the shelves fell, he did offer to come fix things and was very apologetic. The quality of work was so poor that we do not want him to come back. Again, Al is the sweetest man you will meet, but the work is not quality. If you are needing something done at the most economical level and you dont mind poor quality, he may be for you. Also, if you have small projects, he may be for you. I truly believe in investing in small businesses. He is a sweet man and won us over, but the quality is not good.
