The food was ok but not as good as most of the other restaurants we ate at over a two week vacation in France. The service was very bad. They seated us and the servers only came by our table to drop off our food. We had to get up to request a second glass of wine which never came. However they put it on our bill. A nice restaurant located downstairs in a cellar ambiance. We made reservations for lunch, they offer a tasting menu but I opted for an a la carte dish instead. The waiter was really friendly and spoke good English. The wines we tried were all really good. Their bread was also really good. I had the burgundy beef stew and the sauce was delicious, the beef could've been a little more tender but it was still good. The mashed potatoes were also very creamy a good addition to the dish. For dessert we shared a hazelnut macaroon type thing with ice cream on top, it was also very good! Not overly sweet, but a good balance. read more

Caveau is Definitely one of the best restaurants in Beaune-ville. Delicious food, excellent service, and romantically set in a old wine cellar with good lighting. We had: Six Burgundy snails with garlic and hazelnuts, Beef Bourguignon, Chicken breast with cream sauce, pouched eggs in bourguignon sauce, creme brulee and Creme de cassis 'bread' with raspberry sorbet. With 2013 Chablis and 2011 Monthelie Cuvée Miss Armande. Definitely order the 2011 Monthelie. As our tour guide told us earlier: Monthelie is the affordable delicious everyday wine. Best Burgundy snails ever! Delicious garlicky hazelnut blend with butter and olive oil. Juicy, meaty snails. I don't know where they get their snails but the snails were amazing! And that Beef bourguignon! OMG! Tasted like it was braised for hours. So tender, it tasted of onions, red wine, it was perfectly seasoned. Creme Brulee was solid. Perfect caramelized crust. And the almond flake that adorned the dessert was a like a slice of a great almond horn. The bread was a blackcurrant cake that fluffy, like a marshmallow mated with a souffle. So good. One of the best meals we had in all of France. This is actually the place that made us realize we might like French food. Everything was outstanding- service, atmosphere and food. It's hard to say, but I think the scallops were my favorite. Absolutely everything we had though was delicious. I'd highly recommend a visit. It's pricey to get all the dishes and wine but so worth it. It's Burgundian but really refined. Definitely go and try to call ahead for a reservation or show up right when they open! We did that for lunch but it was full within 30 minutes. read more

The night be before Easter was a busy one in this small town. Every restaurant was booked, and without a reservation, no one was getting into this gourmet authentic French restaurant. The owner, who hustles every evening with the staff, is the textbook definition of charming, as he opened a table for us after hearing our sob story! With delicious English menus displaying three price options of predesigned of four course meals (25 euro, 35 euro, 55 euro), deciding what to eat is the easy part. Fabulous place and tremendous prices considering the quality and taste of the food and the ambiance! Particularly loved the seared fois gras with caramelized apples and the molten chocolate cake. The cave dining room is super cute to eat in and doesn't feel cheesy at all. It is a great value as well with a 4 course tasting menu for 28€. We did one tasting menu and some other a la carte items that we wanted. The bill for 2 people and a midrange bottle of wine should be about 110€. Great at a place that feels like it should cost twice as much. This and Ma Cuisine are the best midpriced places in town! read more

Fabulous place recommended to us by friends. Its in the center of town and there is parking nearby. It was most likely an old wine cave or something of the sort as we were surrounded by nice stone arches. The service was great and food was outstanding. I ate the snails, as you do when in the area...personally they taste like chewy mushrooms to me with great garlic butter. On the side was served a poached egg in bourguignon sauce which was fabulous. In addition I had the beef bourguignon which was melt in your mouth good, perfectly braised and must have been cooking for hours on end. read more

Don't be fooled by the diner-like appearance on the outside. We had the 5-course chef's tasting menu and were absolutely satiated by the end of our meal. Everything from the foi-gras, cheese, wine and dessert was incredible. The staff was super nice and the ambience was perfect for a date night. Started with a ham terrine, which was fine. The date went with a traditional escargot, which was also fine. For my main I again went with boeuf bourguignon - partly because nothing else appealed to me and I also wanted to see if there would be any difference in quality from my other sample. This was excellent comfort food - the boeuf bourguignon sauce was so deep and rich I assume it had a demi-glace base. The date's main was chicken breast with cheese sauce and pasta. An odd dish to find on this menu and underwhelming on the eye, but the chicken was perfectly cooked and the dish tasted fine. I had a platter of cheeses for dessert and the date had a pear gelato on spiced bread/cookie. Both were fine. Service was good. 3.4 stars. read more

My meal here was incredible. The staff was efficient and also knew a fair amount of English, which was helpful since I am visiting from the states. Our meal was perfectly paced, perfectly cooked, and the staff took the time to help us select the perfect wine. The ambience is wonderful as the restaurant is in the cellar and is lovely. Take a moment to watch the staff turn the tables between seatings. They are so fast and efficient it was almost like having entertainment. read more

Caveau des Arches is located within the wall surrounding Beane. It is built in what I guess was a cellar or barracks way back when. The decor is truly unique because of this restaurant's location. But don't be lulled by the decor; the food is outstanding. The wait staff is top notch. This was an all around wonderful dining experience. There is a reason that restaurants score a Michelin rating... food, setting, attention from the wait staff that is just right (not constantly in your face, but not ignoring of your needs). Le Caveau was a wonderful dining experience, on the edge of the loveliest town in Burgundy. Highly recommended. read more

I've been here before and enjoyed it. however this time the service was substandard. the plate of complimentary cheese puffs (gougères) were plopped down on a guest's table without a word. My French wife was shocked as was I. The food on the 35 euro menu was fine but the wine service also was substandard. the second bottle was brought and set on the table without a word or new glasses. New glasses are a must for a different white wine in the capital of Burgundy. then the wine was not even offered for tasting. These are real faux pas, sorry. As we were speaking English did they think we did not know better? I hope not. Anyway, at the end of the meal I was asked what I thought, relayed the above comments and was met with a sympathetic look, no more...A little gesture would have been appreciated. I do not doubt that other English speakers have had good experiences here but I am not in a hurry to go back.
