What else could I say but, "Amazing!" While growing up in the Bootheel, birthdays weren't birthdays without a cake from Causbie's or their strawberry cake for a special event. Some of my favorite memories while growing up include going inside with my parents to pick up the cake because they would always ask if I wanted anything while we were there. Being able to get that chocolate milk and a donut of choice or the PEANUT BUTTER sandwich cookies made all the difference in a child's heart. Now, as an adult, it simply makes me "feel" like a kid again when I visit. Thank you for the memories and the great baking!!! This is an easy review because they simply can't be beat! :) read more

Ice Box cookies! Yum. I have no idea what they are or how they're made but Causbie's is the only place I've ever found them. The chocolate iced creme-filled donuts send me straight to Heaven with every bite. Nothing has changed from the walls, register, milk cooler to the deliciousness of the pastries for decades. I used to think quite highly of this bakery. For years my family has purchased birthday and special occasion cakes from Causbie's. But those days are over. With my birthday fast approaching my parents naturally went to Causbie's to have them make a chocolate cake with coconut icing. They have ordered this same cake for at least the last 10-15 years and have had no problems. Not this year. The new owner, Roy Causbie, apparently refused to make the cake saying the "customer might not like how it tasted." That doesn't make sense. Even his own mother, who still works behind the counter, said my parents come in every year and request this particular cake. That wasn't good enough for Mr. Causbie. He flat-out refused to make the cake. Interestingly, Roy never came out of his office. Instead, he had another employee relay the information to my parents. That's pretty poor management and very disrespectful to longtime customers. Instead, Causbie said they could make a chocolate cake or a coconut cake; but, not a chocolate cake with coconut icing. My parents said "No, thanks" and left the store. I can assure you neither they nor I shall ever darken Causbie's door. What's more, I will tell everyone I encounter the lousy "service" my 80-year-old parents received at this poor excuse for a business. read more

I live in Overland Park, KS and I ALWAYS have to go Causbie's bakery when I visit my family in Kennett. There are absolutely NO better vanilla cupcakes than the ones there!!! I bring them back home and people at work fight over who gets one. They freeze well, too. This little bakery has been in Kennett for a LONG time, and for good reason! read more
