Would not recommend Rhetorical Ragdolls based on our experience. We spent nearly a year emailing…read moreback and forth before finally being placed on a priority list for a litter. We assumed that "priority" meant we would have an opportunity to choose from the kittens available, especially after such a long wait. That was not the case. The breeder would not allow us to visit or meet the litter, and she was adamant that she would choose our kitten for us based on personality. We sent photos and clearly explained the calm, affectionate temperament we were looking for. Since we could not meet the kittens ourselves, we trusted her judgment. On the day we brought our kitten home, we were told she was one of the most vocal of the litter and more stressed than the others, essentially the opposite of the temperament we had requested. Five years later, she remains very anxious and does not have what we understand to be the typical relaxed, affectionate Ragdoll temperament. She has also had ongoing issues since we brought her home. We were left feeling as though we had been given the smallest or least suitable kitten in the litter, despite paying a premium price and waiting so long. Our concerns were repeatedly dismissed, and we were told she was not only a great personality match but also "competition grade." Over time, we came to feel that this description did not match what we received, including her uneven markings. We truly love our cat and cannot imagine life without her. This review is not about her. It is about the breeder's process, lack of transparency, and the feeling that what we received was not what we waited and paid for. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this breeder.

Despite some of the appalling reviews, the volunteers at CARE do such great work for the rescued…read morecats and dogs that they take in. They take in animals regardless of any chronic and debilitating conditions they might have and invest a lot of time and money into getting them healthy and ready for a forever home. I adopted my cat from CARE and it touched me to see the genuine compassion and care that they have for the animals that they rescue. I highly recommend adopting from them because they do such great work for the rescued animals in the community and you're bound to adopt a lifelong friend from them. To address some of the negative comments: they are all VOLUNTEERS with full-time jobs, which means that they sacrifice a lot of time to care for the animals and place them into loving homes. They have staff coming in 2-3 times a day to ensure that the cats are fed, medicated (if necessary) and that their litter boxes and cages are clean. For the people who complain about the shelter being dirty, it is sterilized and cleaned multiple times a day. I can assure you that no free-roaming shelter will ever look as clean as a hospital operating room, so get your head out of the clouds. For the people who are unhappy about a pet that wasn't a good fit for your family, you probably weren't forthcoming enough about your life and what you're looking for during the application process. The volunteers know these animals inside and out, and they know exactly what kind of home and living situation they animals need. If you aren't willing to change your life to meet the needs of a pet you're adopting, then don't adopt it. Simple. There's no reason why a volunteer would try and force an animal on someone, or withhold critical health and behavioral information, because it's not in the best interest of the pet. Everything they do is in the best interest of these animals. The volunteers invest a lot of time reviewing and following up on applications to ensure that the cats are matched with appropriate homes. If your application is rejected or you didn't hear back from the team at CARE, it's probably because the cat you wanted wasn't a good fit for you and your family; your landlord doesn't allow pets; your references never got back to us, or they straight up told us not to adopt out to you! It's pretty straightforward in my opinion. Anyways to the people who can look past the negative (and poorly written) reviews bad-mouthing CARE, I highly recommend adopting a pet from them. They work so hard to give these animals hope at a new life and they will work with you to find the perfect little fuzzy friend for your family. If it takes some time for you to hear back from them, just check-in! They are stretched very thin and do their best to keep all applicants up-to-date on things.

My 16 year old cat had several chronic conditions and had been throwing up every seventy two hours…read morefor 9 months. My vet was not cooperative and I seemed to have to justify the decision to put my cat down to her when she could not give me options for treatment or even a diagnosis. Frustrated, I called Lap of Love. They were such a relief. The first time I called the woman who answered was very kind and compassionate. But I chickened out and didn't actually make an appointment. My cat then had a scary incident that made me convinced that I had to do this and I called back. The man who answered was great and got me an appointment within 3 days. I didn't have to justify the decision. I didn't have to get records and PROVE I had a basis for the decision. They did ask for the cat's vet but I am unsure if they called them. I am a little different and I did not want to be around during the procedure. My cat is not the type to be comforted by me. I worried that might be a problem. But it wasn't. The doctor called me before the appointment and told me she was coming and she was on time (very important when you have spent three days just trying to keep your nerve) and kind. I was allowed to step out of my home (I had worried she might tell me I couldn't do that due to liability issues of leaving her alone in the house) and she came and got me when done. She left me a paw print cast of my cat and a locke of hair. Thank god for this service. No one wants to do this but it was a relief not to have to fight for the service when you are using all your strength and backbone to make the decision in the first place.
