We were searching for a new cat sitter after our second experience with a Rover pet sitter suddenly not showing up to check on our cats. We are SO fortunate to have found Richard from Catify My Home. It's not that often you hit the jackpot from a Google search, but we did with this one! Our cats Canvas and Ophelia love their uncle Richie! There isn't enough time to write how vastly different, and better, Richard is from your typical app cat sitter. Any previous cat sitter would stop in, scoop the litter box, refill the food, add water, hang out for 10 minutes and then leave. With Richard our cats get so much play hunting time and lots of affection. His drop ins are 90 minutes and this includes ensuring the dry food is full, cleaning the litter box, refilling the water bowls (which he also cleans), and vacuuming around the cat area. It doesn't just end there, he also brings our trash to the curb if he's cat sitting on a trash day, brings in our mail or any packages, vacuums the areas where he's playing with the cats, and I'm sure there's more I'm missing! We used to come back from time away and dread getting home because of the cat duties...cleaning up the scattered litter/food on the floor, washing water bowls, emptying the litter genie, etc. with Richard, all of that is done for us! We simply come back home to the happiest cats. He will send A TON of photos and videos to show updates. He truly loves cats and understands their behavior. He was even able to get our younger cat (who is skittish and typically hides from strangers) to start coming out and playing with him. Also...he is extremely reliable and doesn't treat cat sitting like a side hobby. Previous sitters wouldn't always send updates and a lot of time we would have to check in with them to see if they were still stopping by to check in. With Richard we know our cats will be well cared for. Every time we are away we tell each other how lucky we are to have found him. Catify My Home is simply the best!! read more

Richard has taken care of our two cats on several occasions, and each time, he's gone above and beyond. Our cats are usually pretty shy around new people, but they warmed up to Richard instantly. He has such a natural way with animals--it's clear he genuinely loves and understands them. Every time we've left our cats in Richard's care, we've come home to two happy, well-fed, and relaxed kitties. He's incredibly reliable, keeps us updated with photos and messages, and even takes the time to tidy up around the feeding area. If you're looking for someone trustworthy and caring to look after your fur babies, Richard at Catify My Home is the best choice. We wouldn't trust anyone else with our cats! read more

My experience with Richard has been nothing short of amazing. I have never hired a pet caregiver before but needed to in this instance. Richard has gone above and beyond, meeting every one of my cats' specific needs, sending me daily photo/video updates and putting me totally at ease. I will never have anyone else watch my cats so long as Richard is here and available. If my cats could speak, they would be saying "go away and send back Uncle Richie." Thank you!! read more

Richard has taught me so much about our cats. I'm serious! We've been dog people for most of our lives, but as we got older wanted to switch to cats. I have complete faith in Richard, especially as he keeps us updated with photos of each visit. Our two year old cats love him. They call him Uncle Richard. Richard really is a professional. Thanks for all you do! read more

Words cannot describe how amazing Richard is! I am in awe of the dedication and love he showed while cat sitting my two cats! He went out of his way to find toys and treats that my cats would enjoy and brought supplies of his own to help ease my cats while I was away. He brought slow feeders, timed feeders, an extra litter box, etc. he even bought them a new scratcher when he noticed how old theirs were! Even my shyest cat came to love him within a day! He sent me 80+ photos a day (per my request lol) and communicated well about their well-being! He even would go out of his way to send me tips that I so appreciate! I am so glad I decided to finally move away from having friends/family care for my cats! He also provides a free consultation/meet-and-greet that is so thorough to get to know the cats! Such great service! read more

Look no further for THE BEST cat sitter on the island. I cannot recommend Richard enough for his cat sitting services! He goes above and beyond to make sure you and your cat(s) are comfortable for the time you are away. My boyfriend and I were planning a trip off island in August. Things happened and it has to be pushed back several times. Richard was very accommodating and understanding. When we finally set the dates, We had no clue what to do about our new rescued kitten. Initially, I thought we could ask a friend that lives nearby to help watch, feed, and clean him but I realized that it'd be way too much work for her as our kitten needed extra attention. And then I thought, maybe he can go to cat boarding but then I did some research and I was not comfortable with the fact he will be away from home (somewhere he is comfortable at). Then I found Richard! He is very responsive and it was very easy for us to set up a meeting for him to meet Hapa. Prior to cat sitting, he sets up two meetings. The first to get to know your cat... eating habits, special diets, etc and the second to bring the cat amusement park over!! After the first meeting, I knew we made a good choice. Not only can we keep our kitten in his own environment, but Richard was so knowledgeable and extremely helpful in helping us with issues we had with Hapa. You could immediately tell he was passionate about what he does. Super plus!!! We ended up adopting another kitten and it was no big deal for Richard. He easily set up a second meeting to meet Mauna. The second meeting consist of him meeting the new addition and he also showed us a typical day of cat sitting. He played with them, cleaned their litter box, gave them love, and observe their behaviors. Richard brought over all his best cat toys, from tunnels to flying butteries, the kittens loved it. When it was time for him to take over, and we were on vacation, he would text me every time he arrived at our apartment and I would receive a ton of pictures when he departs. He takes his time playing with them, petting them, giving them attention. Of course I missed my two fur babies but I knew they were in good hands. On day of our return, Richard cleaned up all the toys he brought over, vacuumed the cat litter and made sure everything was in order. He also provides a nice thank you card and a detailed report of his duties and cat behaviors at the end of service. Take it from me, and everyone else who left a raving review. Look no where else for THE BEST cat sitter. I would not hesitate to have Richard cat sit my two fur babies again! Thank you so much Richard!! read more

I'm BLESSED to have Richard take care of my sweet Persian Cat, Papi Richard is a true professional and takes cat-sitting to a whole new level!! No one can compare! His knowledge, his certifications in animal behavior and his passion for fur-babies!!! He's a Human Blessing Prior to sitting, Richard takes the time for a meet and greet- no charge- wow! He's sits with you and your kitty and takes notes on routine/schedule, likes/dislikes, location of food/water, litter, etc.. Richard took the time to get to know me. He then worked on introducing himself and building a rapport with Papi. Richard is kinda like Santa, he comes with new toys and exciting play tunnels, boxes and cubes, scratch pads, etc! Be prepared....your living room becomes a kitty playground, lol While I'm gone, Richard is awesome at keeping me updated when he's visiting with Papi. He texts and provides a ton of pics, along with videos!!! Those are my favorite It's like watching animal planet! After Richard has completed his cat-sitting service. He provides me with handwritten notes each time he visited regarding Papi's behavior, eating, litter box time and his energy level and more.... Richard is the BEST!!!! No ordinary cat sitter. Richard is a true professional and has the quals to back it up. He came to our home twice prior to our trip to establish rapport with our cat (and us). His routine is comprehensive; play time, rewards, grooming, feeding, and cleaning. He maintains a daily log monitoring the cat's habits and bowel movements and is quick to respond to any irregularities. Our cat had some constipation issues and he gave her some pumpkin puree with her food and added some water sources to help her along. He even called our vet to get a professional opinion. While we were gone he sent pictures of our cat everyday along with a daily journal. A nice touch. Cleaning the cat box was an issue with a past sitter. Not so with Ritchard. Everything was above and beyond. AND he's super reasonable! HIGHLY RECOMMED Catify My Home!!! read more

Richard's been our go-to cat sitter for years, takes fantastic care of our little guy when we're out of town

Similar to a previous customer, this is the first time I've felt so strongly about something on Yelp that I had to post my own review. If you're looking for a cat sitter, look no further - Richard is simply the best! We were blown away by Richard's high quality level of care, his professionalism, and his genuine love for his job. On top of all this, Richard's pricing is very reasonable! Richard starts with two pre-departure meet and greets at no charge. He does this to make sure he has a thorough and accurate understanding of all of you and your cat's needs, and to allow both you (and more importantly) your cat to become acquainted with one another. On the second meet and greet, Richard brings all of his toys and "tools" and essentially allows you to observe what an actual day of his care will look like. Richard will send photos and videos of your cat while you are away - at no extra charge. You can tell Richard understands what it's like to be apart from your cat/pet and he does an amazing job of giving you peace of mind by sharing these updates and photos. He also keeps a daily log of how your cat is doing when he visits, what they did, how the cat is eating, etc. - another example of Richard's professionalism and care for his work. On his last day, Richard goes through and cleans any "mess" he has made while caring for your cat. This usually entails putting away toys he brought, thoroughly vacuuming your house, taking out trash, etc. For us, this was another example of him going above and beyond. Richard is truly a cat expert. His website is full of great tips and tricks that are easy to implement and improve your cat's quality of life. Most importantly though, he is kind and caring. He makes an effort to truly bond with your cat and to provide the best care possible while you are away. We are so happy with Richard's service and would recommend him to anyone. We look forward to using his services again in the future. Mahalo Richard! read more

Anyone considering boarding their kitties should consider Richards cat sitting service first! It will be more comfortable to your cat to stay in their home than to go to a new stressful environment. My husband and I had Richard take care of our 5 year old special needs cat Tuna for 2 weeks. Every day we received photos detailing Richards entire visit and a short summary of how Tuna was doing. Richard would come in, clean the litter box, clean the food bowl, play with tuna, pet tuna, and record tunas well-being all while sending pictures! He also provided a ton of treats and toys which Tuna enjoyed greatly. Richard even had motion cameras capture cute pictures of Tuna playing around when Richard wasn't at the house. I'm very glad we decided to have Richard cat sit for us instead of taking our Tuna to a pet hotel or having a friend watch him. Knowing we had a person who dedicates their time to insuring our cat was the happiest he could be was a relief of mind so I could enjoy my vacation. read more

Richard is the BEST you will find on island for your furry feline family member! I first communicated with Richard via text and set up the initial meetup to better understand my kitty. As a first timer, I will admit - I was completely lost when it came to understanding my little one. I lived with roommates that had cats too. And my cat was very stressed. Needless to say, Richard was able to coach me about "catifying" spaces around the house for her while we lived with the others as well as what to do once I moved to another location. I learned so much in just a few conversations with him. I'm so thankful & so is my cat! He won't disappoint. He is knowledge & trustworthy. read more

I don't know why I have never written a review before...we have had Richard watch our 3 cats twice and are so grateful for him. He provides excellent care and provides complete peace of mind. Our cats were in great hands and I think they were even a little sad when he left! He provides daily updates and even made a little scratch post for our cats that they now use daily. It is clear he truly loves cats. His rates are 100% reasonable and worth every penny. read more

I was planning a trip for a week so I was looking for someone to take care of my cat. I found Richard on Yelp so I contacted him. This guy is great he really cared about my cat and tried to make are time away from our cat less stressful. He came for two visits with my cat before our trip and this was great. On the second visit he brought some toys for our cat and left them. My cat really enjoyed these items. While away he sent daily updates and pictures regarding my cat. This was really appreciated by my wife since she is close to our cat. Richard is very professional and takes his job seriously. His cost is great considering all that he does for our cat. I will use Richard anytime I need a sitter for my cat. I highly recommend him to anyone needing a cat sitter. read more

Richard is awesome and really spends time playing and caring for my cats and I also got a thank you card from him as well.

Whoa! Believe all the positive reviews, Richard is the real deal. This is not a part-time gig for him, but a full blown commitment to caring for cats. He has taken trainings and became certified by Pet Sitters International (who knew!?), so he is very informed in cat behavior and is such a professional. I learned a lot about why my cats were doing certain things from Richard's first visit. He is so clear in his communication and also non-judgmental (I was doing a few things wrong, but he just offered suggestions). We were on vacation for two weeks and one of my cats had an accident on the carpet. Richard told us up front the moment he found the mess. He analyzed what it was to make sure the cat wasn't in danger of illness and cleaned it up. For the next few days he showed us pictures of how he was cleaning the carpet and reassured us that if the stain didn't come up, his insurance would take care of it! He worked so hard at cleaning it daily that the spot was cleaner than the rest of the carpet! Don't hesitate to reach out to Richard. From his first communication you'll see how amazing he is! read more

We just returned from a weeklong trip to Tokyo, Japan. As usual, my main concern was where to board my two house cats. By chance I read an advertisement in Midweek Magazine for Catify My Home, a house sitting service specializing in cats. Richard came to our house every day and spent over an hour each day feeding my cats, taking care of the litter boxes, and most importantly, playing with and interacting with them! In the past, we've taken the cats to the veterinarian for boarding where we spent a lot more money for our cats to be housed in cages amongst other cats. I'm sure they were well taken care of and their basic needs were met, but inevitably, their return home resulted in a wariness that was not there this time around. Richard is professional, thorough and most importantly, loves cats and loves what he does for a living! I'm completely sold on his service and can't imagine a better way to care for my cats when we're away; mahalo, Richard! read more

If you live on O'Ahu and need someone to look after your feline fur babies, I would highly recommend Richard. Not only is he experienced and knowledgeable in handling and taking care of cats but his love for them absolutely shines through in his personality. Richard is godsend to cat owners who need babysitting services. Speaking for those who don't have friends or family members to help occasionally with watching the kitties, Richard is some I would trust implicitly. He finished watching my 3 fur babies and he did wonderfully. He sent pics everyday and updates on each one which I totally appreciated. Trustworthy abd reliable cat sitters are very hard to find so I am so grateful Richard is available and willing to do it. I would highly recommend him To anyone needing kitty babysitting services. FYI he has endless amounts of toys which my cats just loved. read more

Richard is an amazing cat sitter! My wife and I refuse to have Ferdinand boarded and always ensure he is able to stay in his familiar and comfortable home while we are away. Unlike previous trips where we have used family and friends, we opted to go with a professional cat sitter on a recent two-week trip. From the first phone call, during two meet and greet visits, and while on our trip Richard proved to be extremely knowledgeable about cats and their needs and serious about his responsibilities in looking out for our cat and home. Richard had a great plan to reduce the stress on Ferdinand while we were away. He brought lots of cat toys during the second meet and greet visit and we could instantly see Ferdinand gravitate to a couple of favorite toys. Unlike other trips, Ferdinand seemed very happy and content the day we left as he was more occupied with his new toys than our suitcases. Richard used his time during his visits effectively and efficiently by ensuring Ferdinand had plenty of exercise and received the loving attention he is used to. Richard sent texts with numerous photos daily which we looked forward to each morning and assured us our little friend was getting the attention he needs. We could not have found a better and more professional cat sitter than Richard and feel very fortunate to have met him. We could not have been more impressed with his services. Richard raises the standard for pet sitting to a new level and loves caring for animals. Richard will be our first choice in the future! read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! Has Jackson Galaxy met Richard Barber of Catify My Home??? If he hasn't, he sure needs to! This company is nothing short of INCREDIBLE! I'm not sure why anyone looking for their feline fur babies to be loved and cared for would choose any other company. The services that were offered far exceeded my expectations and were done with complete excellence! I was away for two weeks and when I tell you that my babies didn't miss a beat. They played, hunted, ate well, and slept well EVERY DAY I was gone! How do I know? Richard provides ample daily footage of your babies living their best lives! He brings a variety of toys that pique their interest and stimulate the raw cat in them. One of my babies is super shy. Even she came out after a few days and joined in the fun!! Just amazing to see. Then, after I returned, happy to be home, a few days later what do I get in the mail? A DETAILED log and checklist of each day's interactions. Well that just sealed the deal. Catify My Home is the gift that keeps on giving. I'd gladly do a commercial for this company! Richard is absolutely magical. Between recently becoming a two-cat household and our older cat growing more anxious by the year, we decided to try a cat-sitter instead of transporting the cats to a hotel. I was sold on Richard from the first visit--his breadth of knowledge is coupled with an obvious care for his charges--but I was most impressed by his ability to quickly charm our more standoffish cat. On the first pre-sitting visit, he brought an exhaustive questionnaire and took detailed notes to ensure he knew just what to expect from each of our boys. On the second, he came with toys, environmental stimulation, and even a couple microchip feeders to ensure that our older slow grazer wouldn't have his food stolen by his little brother, the food thief. We will HAPPILY call Richard again any time we need a cat-sitter and are looking forward to consulting him when it comes to moving into a more permanent home in order to properly catify the interior. read more

I highly recommend Richard Barber and Catify. After an initial meeting with Richard, you could tell that he loves what he does and really cares about cats. Richard is a professional and very knowledgeable about kitties. He also is respectful and presents with work integrity, two attributes that are difficult to find these days. Richard recently cat sat for my Max once daily in the early mornings. Max is a stray cat I adopted, and he is difficult to warm up to anyone. However, with Richard's magic tricks, Max was playing and had such a great time with him while I was away. I also hired a cat sitter from another company at the same time I hired Richard. The second sitter provided services overnight. I just wanted to make sure Max was taken care of. The first morning that Richard came to visit Max, he found the overnight cat sitter at my house with three other people, whom I did not give permission to be in my house. She have made herself too comfortable and left my house a mess. He sent me many pictures of how he found my house. Looking at the pics and comparing them with the camera surveillance throughout, I confirmed that the night sitter with her three other friends were definitely partying at my house without my consent. If Richard were not scheduled to come in that first morning, I would have never found out about the second sitter's inappropriate behavior. As I mentioned, Richard is very respectful of other people's property and has a wonderful work ethic. I will not hesitate using Richard's services again. He is a great asset to the cat sitting community in Hawaii, and I am so happy that Max had the opportunity to play and interact with him. Did I also mention that Richard cleaned Max's litter box, washed his toys, and also provided him cat grass and many fun toys? I highly recommend Richard and Catify to all cat owners. read more

This is the first time I felt so strongly about something on Yelp I had to post a review: We went on a 1 week trip and had Richard take care of our two cats. Our cats are generally scaredy-cats that don't like people they haven't met or gotten used to, but Richard's approach put them at ease and by the end of the week I was very sure at least one of our cats was having more fun with him than he has normally with us! It was immediately clear from when we first met, Richard cares about our cats and their well-being a great deal. He is professional, caring, considerate, deliberate, and genuinely enjoys being around and interacting with cats. I have only the highest praise for Richard and Catify my home, and would recommend the service to anyone who genuine cares about their cats and don't want to be constantly concerned about them when traveling. There is no greater peace of mind! read more

This is not just a job for Richard, it is his passion. Richard watched my four cats while I was away. He came for meet and greets prior to my departure. This made the cats more comfortable with me leaving and him coming in. He brought many toys for them to play with. Two of my kids are shy, but Richard was able to get them out to play. I cannot express my appreciation for Richard. He is extremely professional, friendly, down to earth, and caring. He completes a daily checklist and takes notes. He also asks for you to let him know when you arrive home, so he knows your fur babies are taken care of. I will not call anyone else when looking for a cat sitter. Richard, thank you SO much! I am so grateful for you!! read more

I've had many cat sitters before, but Richard is hands down the best cat sitter I've ever had. I have never felt more assured that my cat was in good hands. Richard is seriously the best. My cat had some over grooming issues and we were at a dead end with it. No idea how to help after trying medications and ointments. Richard came over, did a very thorough walkthrough, asked lots of good questions to get to understanding what's happening in her environment. After his visit, he he emailed an amazingly extensive report with his finals thoughts, and how to help her. Since his assessment, we've made the changes (still have some to work on lol) and her demeanor has changed so much! I can tell she's so much more confident and content now that she has her own space! We've also contacted Richard for cat sitting services, (but wound up not needing it after all) and his communication is absolutely great. Always replying in a timely manner and looking to accommodate and help in whatever way he can. read more

Your CRAZY if you don't go with Richard. He charges way less, provides way more, has veterinary certifications other sitters just don't have - grows his own catnip and wheat grass for God's sake! I used to use a different pet sitting company that I loved, but they couldn't accommodate me in a pinch, when I had to suddenly leave town. He could and did. I was hesitant to use him, because Im a single female, and just don't trust dudes I don't know with access to my condo. But as I said, I was in a pinch. He came over for a meet and greet and I could tell immediately he's a cat whisperer. Due to past trauma, one of my two cats is terrified of men. She hides like houdini whenever one is in the condo. Her hiding places are epic. It takes her weeks, over the course of several visits, for her to warm up to any one man. And by 'warm up' I mean get so hungry she risks sprinting to her food under the cover of darkness. Within that first (complimentary) visit, Richard took the time (took about two hours) to earn her trust, and by the end, she was playing with him and rubbing up against him. They LOVE Richard. Pretty sure my leaving town is a treat for them, cuz they get to hang with Richard. Only sort of kidding. He brings toys, tunnels, scratching posts, his home grown catnip, and his adoration of the feline species. Just do it. Call him. He's an insurance policy against any worry while you're away. And your fur babies will thank you. read more

An exceptional cat sitter. Richard was very thorough and really took the time to get to know my cat while also respecting her boundaries. He updated me each time he went over and sent a bunch of pictures of my kitty. There couldn't be a more trustworthy person for your cat! read more

Based on the reviews here about Catify My Home, we already had (cautiously) high expectations about Richard's cat sitting service. I can honestly say that we were absolutely blown away by the actual experience. The level of care he provided for our cats was amazing. After the first meet and greet, we already knew that for once, we wouldn't have to worry about leaving them behind. Possibly because half of the cats were already competing for his attention or just draping themselves all over him! Richard was professional, kind and caring. He sent us pictures and videos while we were gone and kept a daily log. He took care of the mail and trash bins and kept the house safe and clean. He also gave us great advice that has improved the quality of life for our sickly kitty, Gizmo. We absolutely cannot recommend him enough. So long as he is willing to take care of our crazy feline crew, we will never look elsewhere for a cat sitter. Thank you Richard!! read more

"Cat Whisperer Extraordinaire". "Cat Sitter" does not begin to describe what Richard does. In two preliminary meetings with us and the cats, he evaluated the cats' home environment, personalities and cat-owner dynamic. The cats soon realized that they had nothing to dread and were completely won over. Richard's curated collection of field-tested cat toys (including those which were not designed for that purpose, such as a paper bag and ping-pong balls) fascinated and delighted the cats, and rightfully the manufacturers should be clamoring to appoint him their distributor. He has uncanny insight into not only cat, but human psychology, and not unlike Mary Poppins in the Banks household, brings this knowledge to bear to enhance the cat-owner relationship. Richard's procedures for intake, observation, recordkeeping and owner reporting are worthy of business process patent protection. He is an invaluable resource to the cat owner community! read more

I just used Richard's services for a two week trip. Knowing that my kitty was in good hands (as was my home) allowed me to relax and truly enjoy my trip. From the comprehensive initial meeting to the day he handed back my house keys, I was impressed by Richard's knowledge, professionalism, and kindness. Receiving daily updates and photos verified that my kitty, though unhappy to be locked inside, remained clean, fed, and mentally and physically safe. I have never given a stranger access to my home but Richard's qualifications, reviews, and the questions he asked during the initial meeting told me that he would not only care for my cat seriously, but would he have respect for my property and expectations. When I returned, my home was spotless and smelled good even though kitty had a few accidents--which were obviously cleaned thoroughly and immediately. Richard even checked to make sure that I was home as expected so kitty was cared for. Look no further! Don't send your kitty to a scary and expensive boarding situation, let them stay home in security and comfort and be visited by Uncle Richard. read more
