Michelle Smith has represented me in two extremely important family-law matters involving my…read morechildren, and I trusted her with my family twice for a reason. In 2023, Michelle represented me in a case that resulted in my older daughter being placed with me. She later graduated from high school and earned a scholarship, an outcome that meant enormously to our family. Three years later, when serious concerns arose involving my younger daughter, I turned to Michelle again. This was a difficult, high-conflict case involving years of history, extensive documentation, and conflicting accounts. Michelle cut through the noise, mastered the evidence, and focused on what mattered. I personally watched her examine witnesses, address opposing arguments, and methodically present the facts. Both sides had the opportunity to be heard, the court considered the evidence, and the judge issued temporary orders placing my younger daughter primarily with me. I understand that not everyone will be happy with the outcome of a court case. Losing can produce strong feelings, and the internet makes it easy to express them. But dissatisfaction with a result should not be confused with the quality or integrity of the attorney who successfully presented her client's case. Courtrooms operate on evidence, not online reviews. I can speak only to my firsthand experience: Michelle was exceptionally prepared, professional, and effective. Two difficult cases. Years apart. When my family needed an attorney again, I chose Michelle again. The results speak louder than the noise. Five stars without hesitation.

Now, since then, I've actually sent her a few clients; one being a childhood friend. My friend ended up retaining her and was going to file for divorce. My friend had a change of heart and decided to wait until she was certain. My friend asked for a refund and Michelle sent her an invoice for work done. This was almost a year and some months ago. Fast forward to this year, now my friend is ready to go through with the divorce and calls Michelle back, and says she's ready. Come to find out nothing was ever filed yet her invoice states she paid filing fees, and that it was filed. You have to trust your lawyer and Michelle, although sweet as pie may not be as ethical as I thought. Just disheartened that she sent an invoice for work she never completed at the time. I've sent her four people, I wonder if she knows that people come to her from recommendations. Could not ever praise her or recommend again. Total deceit.

I had a good feeling about her the minute we met. She took a heartbreaking situation and turned it around to a fair and compassionate resolution for everyone involved. I put my faith in this firm, they lied, and only cared about money, they do not care about there clients. If I could leave zero stars on this review I would. My initial contact with the attorney was free, he assured that I had a case and that if I made my payment right away they would start on the case immediately. After I made payment I was assigned to a callous attorney who had no people skills. She shared that our case was a long shot. I asked why that was not mentioned in my initial call and she said she didn't know but payment had already been processed no refunds. I was already 5K in so decided to continue. I had anxiety for months due to working with them. Crying daily as I always had to reach out for updates. I expected them to be experts in their trade and this was not the case. Responses to my questions where never clear, the only clear thing was that I would be charged for any and all questions. They lack professionalism and organization. Please if you are looking for an attorney you need someone who cares and who is going to fight for you. Someone who knows what they are doing. This firm lacks customer service, professionalism, empathy, sympathy, and overall common sense! My child custody case was lost due to this incompetent law firm.

DO NOT HIRE ERICA RIOS…read more This attorney took $5,000 from my family for a high-stakes custody case involving false abuse allegations, CPS investigations, and ongoing Interference with "Court-Ordered Possession/Access" under the Texas Penal Code § 25.03. Even after my most recent temporary hearing court-ordered rights, and did absolutely nothing. She never filed a single motion. She never sent documentation (including the closed El Paso CPS report). She never gave a billing breakdown, despite multiple requests. She communicated through my father, not directly with me. She tried to withdraw without cause, and I'm still listed as her client because I refused to sign off on her abandonment. I've had to go pro se and file my own enforcement and contempt motions just to protect my time with my daughter. The State Bar failed to act on my first grievance, so I've now filed complaints with the Texas Attorney General and District Attorney for misrepresentation, fraud, and dereliction of duty. If you are dealing with a family matter, especially one involving children. STAY FAR AWAY from Erica Rios. She will take your money and leave you alone in the most critical moment of your life.

She made it feel that something could be done with what we felt was a stressful and impossible case. She assured us that we were not alone in our particular situation and was very calming, yet professional. She was very knowledgeable and experienced. At the same time, she was very honest about what the worst case scenario would be and patient with answering and explaining all of our many questions. She, unlike many lawyers that we have had prior experience with, would be prompt to return our calls, e-mails or letters. We were never left in the dark. In addition to that, her office assistant was very pleasant and relatable. Overall, she made a bad situation not so bad. We highly recommend her.
