I want to start off by saying we are not residents of Atlanta and were there for a baseball tournament. We visited at 6:00 on a Saturday and were the only customers which had me looking for a recent review to see what the deal was with this place. Couldn't find much, so decided to take a chance. We have eaten at several Catfish Kings and are familiar with the food. The restaurant is older but seemed pretty clean and one lady was walking around cleaning tables and cleaning windows. There were two ladies working the counter, both provided great service. The food came out promptly and our orders were correct. My son got the salad bar and ordered chicken strips. The salad bar was decent, no issues there. The chicken strips were very bland and he had to use ketchup to make them palatable. My husband and I both got shrimp and fish combo plates. The shrimp and hush puppies were tasty, but everything else on the platter was not what I was expecting. Little to no salt or seasoning on the fish, the beans were so bad I had to spit them out and the Cole slaw was not any better. I would definitely recommend adding lots of salt and using tartar sauce to make this meal more enjoyable. At around 7:00, the restaurant started to gain a few more families and couples coming in to eat. Now we see why this place was not busy and my family and I will not visit again. I hope they're able to make some improvements to their cooking in the future! read more

This was always my favorite place to eat in Atlanta, they had the best salad bar around, then they quit that after covid, now they went to a prevreaded chicken fried steak instead of there awesome homemade one, new owners trying to save a buck instead of having a quality restaurant read more

Sadness. We ordered a 5 piece fish basket and a popcorn shrimp dinner. No drinks or extras. Came to $23. We got 5 fishes - but pretty small ones, a lot of fries, a good sized baked potato, weird hush puppies, and a good amount of fried okra. Not a shrimp to be seen. No ketchup for the fries or fork for the baked potato. And sadness for me, my partner wouldn't drive back when I noticed. Guess that one's a personal problem, lol, but still ... major drive thru mishap on that one - who forgets the main course? Taste - I wasn't a fan of the fish, but to be fair, I didn't order it. The food was less than impressive. Very bland. The catfish was all batter with no fish. Service was absolutely terrible. The two giggling little girls up front were less than helpful and it was obvious they do not want to do their job. They prefer chatting with each other while trying to take your order. You can no longer sit at a table and decide what you want to order. You are forced to order at the front door. This place used to be a decent place to have fish in Atlanta but I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

EAT HERE!! Don't underestimate this super 'AMUUURICA' mom-n-pop senior-only looking place. Sweet tea = yum. Fried food = double yum. NOT greasy and did not upset this cleansed healthy vegetarian's stomach!!! Definitely try the King Sampler. Fried pickles -- BEST I've had!! And I've had many many many bar fried pickles. These are different: cut very thin, you still taste the pickle flavor, little batter. Most places over-batter their thickly sliced pickles. Here they nailed fried pickle perfection! Onion rings also purdy darn good and mozzarella sticks are def NOT out of frozen package. Salad bar has most delicious potato salad. Also pickled beets and decent Mac and ranch type of salad. Mom had fried catfish, which she said was good, but a little dry. Baked potato is nice and big. Brother had baked fish and butterfly shrimp, he liked it. Did I mention nothing was greasy?! Horrible service at drive thru. Got a popcorn shrimp dinner no utensils,napkins, cocktail sauce for shrimp or tarter sauce. Then charged me for 3 tarter sauce. Catfish King definitely lives up to its royal name. Being last-minute diners, I am impressed with the well-stocked salad bar, even 15 minutes until closing. The catfish is precisely the cast that I like it: Thin and crispy. And the service is superb. We came in for Saturday night dinner while camping at Atlanta State Park. We decided to do an early dinner to avoid what we thought might be dinner rush since we had a sizeable group. Came in were pleasantly greeted and sat us immediately we had succeeded beating the dinner rush. We ordered some fried pickles for the table and they were big hit with my wife and several if the other folks. Pickles sliced super thin and the batter they were cooked in was fantastic, light crispy and not oily. The pickle slices were crisp and salty making them great for this group. I ordered the Super catch dinner came with 8 fillets, fries, hushpuppies & trip to salad bar..You can get the fish "Cajun Style" which I suspect means has a little more zing to the batter I did. They must have missed placed the zing cause it did not make it onto my fish that left me a little disappointed but the fish itself had good flavor and the cornmeal batter was light without a lot oil. Everyone at the table had catfish i mean why would you come to Catfish King and order burger... Prices are reasonable and the sweet tea is perfect...people are friendly and food comes out at the right speed for East Texas no rushing here so kick back and stay awhile. read more

Place was busy, busy...usually a good sign. Had a slight wait for a party of 8, but not too long. I ordered sweat tea and Regular Cajun Catfish (4 filets lightly spicy). It came with fries, hush puppies, and unlimited salad bar. Salad was good. Tea was average. Catfish and fries were EXCELLENT. Hush puppies were different, but okay. Service was friendly, but due to traffic flow, harried and unintentionally inattentive. Would definitely go back (if I don't get sick like the other diner). read more

The waitress was amazing! The hostess was great. So very friendly staff. That is why I gave it 2 stars when the food itself didn't deserve one. We were just moving here and the whole family was unimpressed. There was five of us! My In-Law's, Husband, Son and I. Salad bar was closed from the public. Food was warm not hot like super fresh. Spent $80 with tip food was decently priced. Not a whole lot of food for what we paid though. The food itself tasted like it didn't really have any seasoning. I've been a fan of this restaurant for many years. The fish is always fresh and fried to perfection with a minimal amount of batter so you are getting more fish than breading..a requirement for me. I became a vegan earlier this year but I will still eat this fish. There is a small but satisfying salad bar and large pots of beans to compliment the meal. They have a different sort of cornbread or hush puppy. They are shaped like little logs. Call it whatever you like, but they too are cooked to perfection. I've been to 3 of 5 locations I know of: Livingston, Atlanta, and Lufkin. I have gotten consistent quality food and service at each one. This is usually not the case with chain restaurants. Visiting and was wanting some catfish, Yelp reviews sounded promising. Sweet young lady sat us and a very nice waitress took our drink orders and asked if we were ready to order. I got the 2 piece (but got 3) fish and he got chicken fried chicken. Meals were lunch specials and came with a nice salad bar and help yourself pinto beans. Ordered sweet tea and it was sweet alright! Had to get unsweetened to tame it down a little. Food came out hot and freshly fried. My fish needed seasoning but I took care of that. Beans were flavorful and my only meh are their famous hush puppies. I personally like mine with onion or jaleleno..tasteless but again that's my preference. Recommend if you are in area. read more

Loved this place. Everyone was super sweet and the dining area is super clean and quaint. I highly recommend you stop here!! Great lunch for $9. 5 pieces of catfish, 3 hush puppies, all the pinto beans you can eat and a salad bar with a lot of stuff to select from. And if you are a ranch dressing fan; theirs kicks a@@. :). I was in McLeod, near Atlanta, Texas, a couple weeks ago with a friend. On our way home we stopped by Catfish King Restaurant for dinner. This place is great! Their salad bar is awesome! Be sure to grab yourself a plate while you're there. I had the chicken fried chicken and tried a bit of the catfish as well. Everything was absolutely delicious. Most surprising is how the food, even though deep fried, wasn't greasy at all. There's a lot of love that goes into preparing the meals here and if I'm ever in the area again I'll be sure to stop by on my way home. The service was great. Typical southern hospitality. If I could give NO stars, I would. My husband & I went there for lunch one day & the waitress accidentally charged my $199.55 for our meal!!!! Which then overdrew my bank account! They refunded the money which was gonna take 4 days, BUT refused to pay for the overdraft fees that accrued afterward because of it!!!!!!!!!! The owner has very POOR customer service. He also proceeded to tell me that his manager didn't know what she was talking about....Will never set foot here again & I will warn EVERYONE I know!!!!!!!! The number 1 worst food poisoning I have ever experienced. I ordered the fried catfish and fries basket. It tasted below average. Later that night I thought I was going to die. I was throwing up like crazy, bad diarrhea, nauseous, and even had dizzy spells. I called them the next day and they did not seem to care.
