From the moment everyone walked in until the night ended, we were never without food or drink. As people walked into the ceremony, they were greeted with glasses of champagne. Then, once the ceremony ended and the reception began there were trays of food. Not just any food, but tiny morsels of amazing that were bits of pleasure to savor and enjoy! There were crab cakes - which were the best I've ever eaten, an appetizer with cucumber, lobster medallions and caviar that was amazing. I need to really talk about the caviar, because it was perfection - flavorful without being overly salty, and bursty like caviar should be. In addition to the trays of food, were platters of cheese, crackers and fruit. The cheese was amazing - all sorts of textures, flavors and colors that were so rich and delicious. Now, it's important to note the hosts of the wedding went all out, so we were able to sample a ton of things Jewel has to offer, but the dinner was TDF (to die for). Prime rib that melted in the mouth - not only did it melt in the mouth, but the flavor was mwah! Oh yes, and the mashed potatoes were inspired - served in these cute little glass cups with just enough room for the amazing gravy. Fire roasted veggies rounded out the meal perfectly. I have to tell you, if I had an event that needed to be catered, I would definitely look into these guys - they were amazing!

As soon as my husband and I walked back up the aisle, Paula, our banquet captain, was quick to ask us what we'd like to drink and ushered us to the bride's room where my husband and I could enjoy our first few minutes alone as a married couple. Within minutes Matt and I were introduced with our beers in our hands, ready to celebrate with our friends and families! For passed appetizers we had ahi tuna wonton crisps, coconut chicken skewers, and zucchini and feta cakes which were all hits with our guests. For dinner we served a raspberry and goat cheese salad, fresh fruit, chilled grilled asparagus, herb mashed potatoes, Jewel's orange miso glazed salmon, a chef carved prime rib. Dessert was a delicious carrot cake and Top Pot donuts that we brought in. I have to say, I was quite impressed with how fresh and delicious the food was and how quickly the team was able to keep the food coming! One thing to note, Jewel hosts a large group tasting in February for all their brides and grooms where they provide several (but not all) options from their menus rather than one on one tastings. The nice thing about this model is that you can see the quality in their catering on a large scale. Matt and I chose some things from the tasting in addition to some other options from Jewel's vast menu. We were pleased that the menu we served at our wedding tasted even better on the day of. The food was delicious and we decided to book her for our big day. Very reasonably priced (in 2007). I was able to stay within my budget and had phenomenal food. We had many compliments the day of and after the wedding about how tasty the food was. It's always a plus when people have that as a takeaway from your wedding! Personally, I am usually disappointed with wedding food. Her northwest salad is excellent. As well as the Chicken Piccata and rice pilaf. The reasons I downgraded to a 4: *Her response time--it lagged quite a bit a month prior to the wedding (I couldn't reach her by email or phone at one point for about a week which made me panic!). *A discrepancy with R+R rentals--we ordered sound equipment through Remmy through R+R. The amp permanently blew out the audio on my laptop and the R+R guy said it was our fault. And, the cable couldn't be found at the end of the night, causing the waitress to be rude to my brother in law and ultimately accusing us of stealing the cable. Remmy asked me to pay for it, but after a long email thread (including a rant from the R+R guy) she ended up never getting back to me with how much I owed her/him so maybe they both dropped it. *In the email correspondence about the sound cable (after the wedding) she brought up that she didn't have enough vases for my flowers. She had said she had vases she would bring for the food tables if we brought the flowers. Apparently we brought too many (and I say apparently because I didn't hear about this until a few weeks after the wedding) and this made her frantic so she went back to her office to get more vases and then was on a time crunch to set up for the wedding. I would rather her have not spent time on the extra flowers and have her have time for the more important stuff, but this was not brought to my attention. I was a bit annoyed after the fact to have to deal with the cable and vase issue, but all in all Remmy is a super sweet lady and her food is marvelous.

Seriously, these guys {Zach and Aaron} prepare some pretty darn amazing food -- it's local, wholesome, and fresh. I'm vegetarian, so what excited me the most, was the variety and type of the vegetables they used in the dishes (butternut squash, brussel sprouts, carrots etc.). The combo of vegetables was hearty and seasonal, and perfectly salted (I hate when veggies are over seasoned/salted and you can't taste the veggies). Everyone else in my group of 15 seemed to love the chicken too! The meal was followed by a wonderful apple tart with fresh whipped cream. This was NOT a sickeningly sweet dessert by any means, which also makes me happy. The apple tart seemed to really boast the fresh-in-season flavors of the apples themselves -- it was perfect! Lastly, I should mention the guys {Zach and Aaron} are great! They easily accommodated all dietary restrictions in the group (vegetarians etc.). They are super friendly and easy to work with. Her business is new this year, but her experience and skill have been well-earned at VERY prominent local restaurants. Faced with a picky bride who wanted organic, local, sustainably-harvested fare, and a very diverse crowd, Shannon kept her cool and guided our experience from beginning to end. She researched and constructed our flavor profile, we tasted and debated, and laughed, and ate well for months leading up to the event. There were so many unknowns and last minute wedding issues, but nobody ever questioned how the food would turn out. It was perfect, just like we expected, bountiful and fresh and appealing. Our guests were thrilled. Think catering is just about the food, though? I was under that impression for a while,but I realize a caterer is the one person at your wedding who has totally done this before. Seen it, done it, knows what to expect. Shannon helped us choose our linens and decide what types of dishes and glasses we needed to get. She handled our bartending; we bought our own liquor and wine, but she had licensed, experienced professionals set up and serve it. Several times, I was close to losing my cool about the to-do lists I made for myself. Shannon would just tell me - "Hey, that's not worth worrying about. I know how to handle it. I've got it." And she did. And a bonus was she employs hard-working local actors and dancers as staff, which sort of made me a patron of the arts, too. Her staff is always poised, professional, and fabulous! I was blown away, and I also realized, with all the money I spend on ingredients and tools for the few times I try and have a dinner party at my house, I could just have Shannon do it. The presentation of each food station was amazing, the staff was well groomed, and very pleasant to work with. The salad was just cut up romaine with croutons on top and bottled salad dressing. The side of green beans were frozen and just heated up. I could have done this myself. The reason I hired a caterer was to have a great crafted meal. Not bag lettuce and frozen vegetables. The roast she served was completely raw to the point of blood flowing out. Half of my guest couldn't even eat it. Her poor attitude along with a basic meal that was below expectation will have me not hiring her again. It's really too bad, she could have done so much more. Rose called me and apologized for the experience. After speaking with Rose I realize that its not that Rose really did anything "wrong" it was that we have different expectations as to what I would expect with a caterer. I didn't realize that I needed to specify that I didn't want bottled salad dressing or bag lettuce. I have learned a lot through this experience. I did want to add that I did have guests that loved the mashed potatoes and commented to Rose that the meal was good. It is my perception of how things went. We set up an appointment to do some taste testing of her mini desserts a few weeks before our wedding and it was a great experience. I was able to pay in advance and then have friends pick up the desserts on the way to our event, which she had carefully boxed for transport. The desserts she made for us were assorted berry mini tarts with Bavarian cream, raspberry chocolate mini cheesecakes, New York style mini cheesecakes with white chocolate and mandarin orange, lemon mini cupcakes, almond pound cake petit fours, and mini banana cream pies. Everyone at my reception raved about the way they looked and tasted! Everything was perfect and I couldn't have been happier. Also, the price was so reasonable. There's NO WAY I could create anything myself or buy it ready-made elsewhere that would look or taste so great. In fact, my daughter-in-law is having a baby shower later this month and we are ordering some of the mini desserts again for that. I will definitely be a repeat customer of Gene's and I would recommend her anytime.
