I've been a patient here for 3.7 years. For most of that time I was lucky to have a wonderful NP by…read morethe name of Nancy Austen taking care of me. I always felt heard and was always met with compassion and empathy. For the past several months I have been seeing Johnna Hayse, NP. She is very cold and detached, spending no more than 5 minutes in the room with me. Has no sense of compassion or empathy which are critical when dealing with people who suffer debilitating pain every second of every day of their life. I have been a chronic pain sufferer for 21 years. I have been on opioids almost as long. I am not addicted ( I have gone off my meds for months at a time to prove to myself that I can. The only effects I encountered was increased pain ). In all those years, I have never abused my medication, never sold or given it away, never "lost" or had my medication "stolen". Not one single blemish on my record. Now AZ has a new opioid prescribing law and my provider has, in the past 3 months cut my pain med dosage in half. Mind you, not because she had to. The law is not meant to punish long term pain patients who have been doing well on their regimine. There is a great article that explains it in easy to understand language here https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2018/07/08/622729300/patients-with-chronic-pain-feel-caught-in-an-opioid-prescribing-debate and here https://directorsblog.health.azdhs.gov/several-components-of-the-arizona-opioid-epidemic-act-go-into-effect/ So there is no legal reasons for her to have cut my dosage in half. Which leads me to believe that Southwest Sports and Spine Institute does not give a crap about their patients and instead only care about which report card grade they will get. Dr. Johnson and his staff should be ashamed of themselves. For the past month I have barely been able to get out of bed. I shower once a week only because I have to. I don't cook or clean anymore. I don't play with my grandbaby anymore. I have ZERO quality of life and most days I wish I was no longer alive.

Don't bother. Really. After 13+ years they still can't get a referral to a neurologist or…read moreneurosurgeon. They have tried many times but always pick doctors that don't take my insurance. Meanwhile I've lost the ability to do everything, like walking and driving. The nerve roots running down both legs are crushed, haven't felt my foot in 6 years, and they keep saying surgery but i guess I should walk down the street and ask random people and they know a doctor cuz this office apparently doesn't know or work with any.

They finally started giving me medication about 2 years ago, one of which actually worked, but stopped working after 9 months. Then they gave me an additional medication on top of the 1st one. The 2 together does blunt the pain a bit, but it's still around a 7 on the pain scale. Today I tried to refill one of my pills, but the pharmacy said I had to wait another day! As of tonight, I am out. I have 2 appointments tomorrow morning and I won't be able to go to the pharmacy until tomorrow mid afternoon! 2 pills I will miss because Dr Yang wouldn't let me have my pills on day 29. She doesn't care about my pain! I will avoid her in the future, and I suggest that others do too.

It took most of the next day calling and leaving messages to try to get something for the pain. Never got to speak to a doctor, but was prescribed some Tramadol which barely helped. The day of the procedure, Dr Yang was late, gave me a five minute explanation of what was next and afterwards stood in the doorway of the recovery room and said it went well. Apparently, it didn't go well and the pain continued. Spent the next day in agony trying to reach someone there for help. One one thier Lackeys finally called back and said Dr Yang wanted some X-Rays and prescribed a pain pill called Journavx which my pharmacy doesn't carry. I called Pima Pain Center and was told that I would have to find it on my own. On the day the stitches were removed I asked Dr Shiller what was next and was told that was all they could do and good luck. So, if your goal is to visit a Medical Industrial Complex with horrible communication and one phone number, this is the place for you. Personally, I'm now going to Barrow Brain and Spine to see if they can actually help me.

Receiving care at PISA has been a welcome relief. Unlike other pain management clinics in Tucson, this is an actual, REAL, doctor's office. I do not feel like I am at a methadone maintenance clinic or am perceived and treated as an addict. I haven't heard one rageful patient yelling at staff, whew. These are expert, competent physicians offering comprehensive treatment. The staff are kind, friendly, and supportive. There may be pain management clinics in Tucson that I have not experienced that are excellent. I can't speak to that. But in MY experience PISA is the best and I have no difficulty recommending them.

I think that's ridiculous asbim the one in 24/7 pain from a disease that will never go away. I have CRPS fibromyalgia scoliosis and migraines. After 6 1/2 year now they insist I come in every month. I can't afford that! Then the keep switching people on me. This one said we'd try new meds so I wouldn't have to come in every month. I said fine they didn't even do that! apparently it's no where in the notes!! They sent a med over I can no longer take because it reacts with a new med I'm on!! ( Which I told the helper and her) then sent my other med over! Last time they lost my paperwork! So tired of this !!!
