Paid about $489 HKD ($60 USD) for a pair of Birkenstocks and $200 something HKD for the Arnold Palmer heel sandal. ($30 USD) Birkenstocks were way cheaper than normal which scared me because I thought they would be fake, but CPU is an official store affiliated with Birkenstock. I saw on the Birkenstock website. So buy buy buy!

In Wan Chai there are a ton of sports shops to choose from, most of them carrying a big selection of sport wear at good prices. All of them have big discounts and you can normally get a good deal anywhere. But Footwear Supermarket is my preferred one. They have Reebok and Puma for running shoes mainly, but they also have some Columbia and Converse products and pretty much everything is reduced. For what I was looking for, they didn't really have 'the ones', but I still had a look because the staff didn't seem very preoccupied with me browsing around, so I kept going. I found it odd that on one of the corners they have 'normal' shoes, but I ignored those because they were, well, a little ugly, and just didn't fit in there. They also had some okay clothes. If you are looking for a fancy pair of trainers, it's probably not the place, they all look very functional, and cheap (some of the discounts went up to 50%). Because I already have what I need and I'm more looking for 'pretty' shoes, I decided to go next door, but if you need good shoes, don't care that much about the design and are not willing to spend much, it's worth checking them out. But what is the point of buying nice shoes if you don't wear them? So along comes my favourite cobbler. He's super efficient, takes great care with my often astronomically priced shoes and always does a good job. What I mean by good job is, when I get a pair of shoes soled, it doesn't lift and comes off within 6 months, it doesn't come back with any marks which weren't on there previously, he's reasonably priced and did I mention fast in his work? I dropped 3 pairs off to be soles before these babies hit the grounds of HK and they will be ready in a day. If you have urgent repairs, take a seat and he'll do it on the spot. What more can you ask for really.

Shatin Centre has always been like the little brother to New Town Plaza- its much smaller, its on…read morethe side and the shops are just a little down market compared to the big boss. This contrast has been made even further lately with the major renovations at NTP where Armani, Buberry and Bally are all present in a place where people used to come to get pots and pans. This is the reality of the new Hong Kong I guess. Shatin Centre, despite its makeover, is still the neighbourhood shopping centre with the large number of small, non-chain stores. Here you will find old shoe shops (the ones where we used buy school shoes from- if you grew up here you know what I mean), small jewelers who don't cater for oligarchs like the major chain these days. There is also a disproportionate amount of personal care product retailers here which I can only presume is a strategy of the management company. You will also find fast food joints, and just cheaper restaurants as opposed to NTP nearby. When I was younger I didn't care for such things as NTP just seemed the cooler and nicer place to be. Nowadays though, all shopping centres are identical and as such, malls with little shops like this place makes for a more special experience. You don't have to fight with tourists (as much) here because the shops here are just too low brow for them. Which is just like for a skint like me.

The mall complex is actual a string of multiple malls that are connected between tunnels and bridge walkways. It actually has an entrance to my hotel which is beyond convenient if it decides to storm or the day is beyond humid [welcome to Hong Kong] The Mall is abundant in western high end brand and considering you haven't gone broke on paying rent on this city, you can shop to your heart's desire. Try not to get lost as this mall is HUGE. [9 stories - I'm still in search of the Lush store I saw it breiflly and haven't been able to find it again. I will be continuing to shop here in the next month.

There are a bunch of other stores on the same street that look like real Nike stores. A lot of them have the Nike sign out front and nothing else. There is a Nike Football store (real) and then there are some like Marathon sports which I believe are comparable to Footlocker in the USA. It may not matter that much but if you are wondering why there's a "Nike" store every few steps on this street then this is why.
