Really great dive shop and highly recommend them when thinking about a Catalina Island dive. I wandered in here on a Saturday and David helped sign me up for a dive right at the dive park here. No boat dives available, all full. I haven't dived since the pandemic and last dive was in The Maldives and I told David all this but we both came to the conclusion I could join the group dive on Sunday. Fast forward to Sunday and I show up at 9:30am for my 10am dive. All the staff here are really great and very helpful. Since I came early, I got a tour of where all the equipment are housed and shown where the bathroom and showers are. At 10am, the dive master returns from the 8am dive and introduced himself to me. Joel was one of the best dive masters I have ever had, super patient and knowledgeable. Since I haven't dived since 2019, I'm supposed to take a refresher course, but both David and Joel sized me up, and let me do the group dive. I was a bit rusty but things came back quickly once I had all my gear on, mask, BCD, regulator, tank, weights. We went down to 59 feet and definitely swam thru a lot of kelp forest and saw some fish but nothing too mind blowing. Mother Nature does her thing. While $130/tank isn't exactly cheap, I'd say for the gear, the special attention/refresher I received and even letting me go on a group dive when they could have easily said no, it was all very worth it for me. I opted to not dive a second tank given the water conditions (not as clear as I would like) and it just being a lot of people and the water was too cold honestly. I was in a 7mm and still really cold. Id definitely book this dive shop again and will return so I can dive the cavern wall over near Two Harbors. My son and I had a fantastic experience with Catalina Divers Supply. I'd give them a whole galaxy of stars, not just 5! Suzy and Sean were our divemasters, and both were so friendly, patient, and encouraging--and both know scuba diving and the Catalina diving environment inside and out. We knew right away we were in good hands. I hadn't been diving in 8 years, so I took a refresher course and went on a shore dive with Suzy. Thanks to her, it all came back to me. Then, my son and I went together in the dive park with Suzy, which was a real treat for me as a 70-something dad. The next day, we went on a boat to the far western regions of the island. Divemaster Sean was the best, guiding us through the massive kelp forest and sea grasses, and pointing out the amazing creatures that inhabit those waters. We did the Discovery Scuba Diving (DSD) and it was a great first-time diving experience! The check-in process was a little unorganized, but everything else was great. Booking was easy, and they are the only company with a legitimate shop at this location (including cubbies to hold your belongings and private, warm-water showers for after the dive). We had Michael as our guide and were surprised that it was essentially a private session with just him and us. He did a great job of being personable, teaching us the basics, being patient with us, and also pushing us beyond our comfort level. The dive itself was great for people who had never done it before. We went slow to ensure proper pressurization and that everything was okay. Eventually, we were about 30-feet down and were able to swim through the kelp. We saw quite a few small fish and a few very large bass. The dive itself was probably only about 20-30 minutes, but it was still a really good first experience. We'd definitely recommend this shop for first-timers, and are ready to dive again soon! read more

He led me through magical kelp forests and pointed out giant sea bass, a two pointed octopus, ctenophores, and scorpionfish. They're the only dive shop located exactly at casino park point, so you really shouldn't be booking with anyone else! They've got all the gear you could ever need plus excellent souvenirs. My 5 friends and I went snorkeling and had a great experience with this company. They provided us a quick walk through, provided us with wetsuits, flippers, a snorkel and an option of a floaty. I was really happy my snorkel seemed quite new and they had reassured us they were sanitized. On top of that they helped spray something on them to prevent them from fogging up. When we got to the location to begin snorkeling I was so impressed because there was so much to see unlike my past experiences in other places. There were so many different types of fish of different colors. The water was very clear and the guide gave us interesting facts as we explored on our own. The guide kept track of us and led us all back out safely. read more

Great experience with Jemma as a divemaster and Bob as a captain (we did a boat dive out in the Scrambler, which is a mind-blowingly nice dive boat). Both were friendly and knowledgable, and it is clear Jemma knows the local waters and is exceptionally competant as a divemaster. Bob clearly has decades of experience navigating the local waters, and I would trust him completely in any conditions. We are experienced divers who have gone diving around the world, so we have a lot to compare them to, and this was a fantastic experience. read more

I did the intentionally private diver session to experience the kelp forest for the first time and it was utterly incredible. My dive instructor was Susie, and she was a gem, great vibes, kind, patient, and fun. She took me all over the kelp forest which was devastatingly beautiful. I kept thinking how lucky I was to be exploring this divine creation of nature. I would recommend this dive and intentionally private diver. read more

Had five great, safe dives here with the Instructor Suzy. She is very expert, very experienced, keeps you out of trouble and shows you where Casino point hides the really good stuff. Saw the usual suspects down there plus a sea lion hunting, plus a sea bass with a sportfishing wire stuck into it (which my instructor tried to cut off but the big galoot wasn't having any of that). My instructor skillfully identified poor habits, faulty form, and the like underwater, and tried very hard to correct those. I'm still working on it. She also offered lavish praise when I successfully corrected unsafe or ungainly habits. She even used an underwater camera to show me what I was doing correctly and what I was doing incorrectly. Staff is very welcoming and open. Secret: they have hot showers here, but only for those who dive with them. I didn't know there was a big, freshwater shower stall here (with a BENCH in it) till my instructor tossed an offhand suggestion at the end of our first day. I was shocked. And that is not all: they have huge troughs of freshwater for you to rinse off your gear before you get back on that ferry. I had been steeling myself to hose down my salt-encrusted gear at home after an hour on the ferry and an hour on the freeways as usual, but no, they've got that covered right here, for those who dive with them. Iono, I woulda thought that would be a huge selling point, but it's pretty down-low around here somehow. Or maybe it is just really obvious to everyone except for me. Yeah, that happens to me a lot. Anyways, I'm def comin back here for more training. read more

We paid for snuba diving didn't get a refund for day, then the instructor told us to leave our stuff where anyone could steal our stuff. They didn't let us use the showers because we weren't scuba divers. Everything was horrible don't go here save your money. read more

Mark was a perfect "guide" for my guided shore dive. He was patient, friendly, and refreshed me on PADI instruction without being condescending. He provided lots of information about the dive site, safety (kelp tangles) and emphasized the importance of me having fun. Much to my horror, I had a panic attack upon descent, started hyperventilating, and ascended pretty immediately. Mark was very understanding/patient and distracted me with conversation. When I felt ready, we descended again and made the most of the time/air we had left. Gear was included in the guided dive. I borrowed a 7mm suit (worn over my 5/4/3 suit), boots, gloves, fins, BCD, and reg. I chose not to wear a hood and was warm enough in January water. I felt that it was a great deal and couldn't have asked for more. read more

We did a 2 tank guided dive with Rane yesterday to celebrate my birthday (6/27/24). My friends and I had never dove Casino Point and were so fortunate to have Rane as our guide. I'm still learning the ropes and he was calm, professional, knowledgeable, and patient. He gave me helpful tips to improve my diving and pointed out lots of fun critters. Catalina Divers supply has been my go to shop in Avalon for years. I have done guided dives at the dive park with their instructors and they are very knowledgeable, friendly and well trained. I have also taken some of my non cert. buddies for intro dives and the staff have always been patient and very thorough. The last couple of times I went I picked up tanks to dive the casino . I had an excellent dive with the instructor on my first day and booked for a night dive on the following day. I got a quote for $214 for the night dive + equipments. The morning the night dive was canceled but finally it was rescheduled at 8PM at 2PM One hour later, I got a confirmation mail for the dive and I got asked whether I had lights to which I answered I do not. I was then asked to pay an extra $100-200 to purchase lights as they are not rentable. As I was not told I would need to purchase any light, I conveniently asked for the dive to be canceled and have a day dive the day after and was told I would need to pay rescheduling fees (!) and could not get any refund. I got told as an experienced diver I should expect to know I would need to bring lights for a night dive, which does not make any sense. They are usually provided or at least rentable and as a customer, just for any service, I should know what I may need and the price when I make the purchase, not a few hours before. I am very easy-going but such an outrageous and despicable customer service relates more to scam than anything else. I asked my bank for a chargeback and will make sure I do not spend a penny on a fraudulent advertised service. read more

My friends and I recently went on the Scuba Cat dive boat with Jason as our captain and Chelsea as our DM. All I can say is this trip was awesome! We all had such a wonderful time. Will not shop or rent here ever again, got scuba tanks and weights for my brother and I. Had a great time in the water however once returning to the stairs at Casino pointe and resurfacing I exited the water and was helping my brother safely remove his Fins to climb the staircase, the water was slightly rough on him and he was having a small bit of trouble maybe a few extra seconds trying not to FALL with all the gear on as the water pushed him. one of this companies dive leaders Karen "fitting name" was incredibly rude "Um excuse me can you GO!" what kind of a dive leader would be that impatient and rude wanting another diver to compromise their safety because they were impatient in front of all their customers. She seems like a terrible representation of leadership for that company and I will not rent from them ever again, as well as all my dive buddies who witnessed this. read more

Love the staff at this place! The shop is extremely convenient and located right next to the dive park so it makes things easy when getting air fills and weights. The only complaint I have is that I usually range anywhere from 16-18 lbs in weights and you can only get increments of 5lbs. Every time we rent from there I'm always overweighted on the dives which isn't a complete deal breaker but I usually struggle trying to control my buoyancy. Every time I've rented they never have smaller weight increments so I recommend bringing your own weights if you need it broken down. But overall the shop and staff are awesome! read more

On Friday, November 16, 2018, my friend and I went to Catalina and purchased a Discover Scuba Dive from Catalina Divers Supply. Jeff is the name of the person assigned to guide us. My friend is a certified diver and I have scuba six previous times even though I'm not certified yet. I told Jeff that I had previous experience... My complaint is that for the total lenght of the dive Jeff had a hold of me and NEVER let me swimm on my own.  It was a horrible experience.  I could not advance or move freely. After the dive was over and we were walking back to our hotel that I told my friend that I didn't have a very good experience and he said to me:  "What happened is that Jeff was holding you, grabbing you all the time.  You looked like a dog being walked, you were swimming so hard pulling him all over and it look bad..." I don't want to  use their services ever again.  I will get certified somewhere else so I don't have to suffer such a shameful expererience with "instructors" like Jeff. In all previous ocations I had such a great time swimming freely and enjoying the sights. Not this time. read more

We use 2 stars to represent an average quality business. Location is great and the staff were friendly, but in our experience they were annoyingly unreliable. We had a very mixed experience with CDS using the kiosk at the dive park. Prices were a little higher than their competition but the location is extremely convenient for diving as you can grab your gear and basically jump right into the water. They also rented LP 77 steel tanks (DIN and yolk) which were great for keeping some pounds off the waist belt. The main issue was that they mentioned the kiosk would be on call the following day, and any time after 8 when we called they would just come down. We started calling around 8am and kept trying and waiting until around 10am with no one answering their phone, then eventually walked back into town and lugged tanks and weight belts back over from Scuba Luv (at additional cost, since we'd already started a 24 hour rental of these from CDS the afternoon before). CDS showed up later in the day and mentioned that the phone forwarding hadn't worked and that's why no one was responding to our calls in the morning. We were happy that they mostly offset what we had to pay for renting the additional stuff, but it was still a pretty big bummer when we only had one afternoon and one morning to dive, and lost half of that morning waiting around for them. read more

My girlfriend and I had a terrific weekend of diving with Catalina Divers Supply! We booked a Saturday two tank boat dive and Sunday guided shore dive over the internet, and everything worked out perfectly. For the boat dive you check in at their Pleasure Pier location - I recommend arriving 30 minutes early if you're renting equipment. Robert the divemaster did a nice job preparing everyone for the dives, but please note that you and your buddy (they'll assign you one if you're solo) are responsible for your own dives. The shore dive departs from Via Casino at the Catalina Dive Park. Jeff is an extremely experienced and capable guide - thank you Jeff for showing us around! Fyi this dive is listed as two hours but you should leave an extra 30 minutes if you have to be somewhere afterwards. All around awesome weekend made possible by CDS :) read more

Captain and crew were friendly and helpful and ready to help and make us at ease. We were lucky to spot dozens of dolphins on the way in and sun fish on the way back, it was fabulous! Didn't see much fish variety during both dives. Many orange fish, a lot of kelp forest : this alters quite a lot the experience. Fresh sandwich and drinks for lunch were welcome. read more

Had an amazing time diving this past Monday with my cousin. I was nervous before going as I'm not the best swimmer and this was our first time but after meeting the friendly staff and watching the safety video I felt more at ease. Our diving instructor Robert gifted us a wonderful experience! He was VERY patient (which helped my anxiety a lot) and made sure we felt 100% comfortable and practiced and understood the hand signals and safety protocols before fully diving under. The goggles were super comfortable and stuck easily to our faces. I loved them so much I'm looking to purchase some of my own. During our dive we saw so many beautiful fish that came right up to us and a huge 3 foot Sea Bass! Towards the end of our underwater tour he threw up some rocks from the ocean floor and as we held hands in a circle floating beneath the shore a flock of beautiful fish came swirling around us. I felt like Ariel from the Little Mermaid! It was an experience to remember. I will definitely be back. read more

I went on a discover scuba guided tour with Mark. It was an incredible experience! There was about 1.5-2 hours of education before we went into the water. Mark was with me the whole time and took the dive at my pace (it was my first time and I was nervous!). I never felt rushed or unsafe. The dive itself amazing. The colors were vibrant and we saw lots of wildlife species and the kelp forest. I would highly recommend this shop and this dive experience! read more

They are the only on the island for easy air fills with a trailer right around the corner from casino point. Great staff and good service. They offer water and canned sodas. $9 air fills, and snorkel and gear rentals as well. Bring your divers very card for rentals if you're doing scuba. And these guys work really hard, so be sure to tip em as well! read more

Diving off the casino was EPIC! My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience with our guide, Robert. He took us on a wonderful underwater adventure through the kelp forest and to a couple really neat wrecks and got to see the HUGE black bass. I think we saw 7 in total. It was seriously one of the coolest dives I have ever done and I could attribute it to many factors (Warm water, superb visibility, fantastic underwater wildlife) but the big one here was our really informed and exuberant guide Robert. He was so friendly and fun - I highly recommend requesting him if you get the opportunity to do so! read more

We went with Catalina Diver Supply for our first scuba experience in Catalina. The whole ordeal went well and Jeff was our guide. Having lived on the island for 10 years, he knew Casino Point Dive Park like the back of his hand and we felt very comfortable diving with him. He set up all our tanks and gear. The underwater world at Casino Point is full of life! Kelp, fish, lobsters, eel, oh my! We also saw 2 sail boat wrecks. I heard some of the other divers were lucky enough to see a turtle in November and even some sea lions came out to play! We went down to 70' max depth, but Jeff will brief the group before the dive to see what everyone is comfortable with. Jeff was always by our side, kept the group together and made sure to monitor everyone's air supply very well. I went with my fiance and his coworker friend and that was our whole group! The guided dive was $100 (if you book 2 or more people) and the 2nd dive is $60. Booking is very easy on their website and their prices are less expensive than some of the other competitors on the island. read more

NO NO NO NO! GO away and STAY FAR FAR away from them. This shop has a small trailer out on casino point with old and hazardous gear. Someone is going to get hurt and they don't care! Wetsuits and BCD's with holes. Old and beat up regs. Cracked computer screens. And worst of all, leaking tanks with out of date service stickers! Are you kidding me!?!?! We got 3 tanks all leaking air and when we brought them back to swap for ones up to par, they were rented back out again! They don't care if the equipment is broken! I'm scared for anyone that goes there! I'll be contacting PADI to let them know of the hazard this operation presents to renters and class takers alike. Not to mention $75 for a basic package + $20 for a computer!? Hello! It's 2018! PADI only teaches the courses with computers! We will go to Ocean Enterprises in San Diego, rent all of that for $45 ($30 per extra day), and lug it out next time to avoid risking our lives at depth. That's how bad I want to avoid these guys!
