I've known Scott for years, and I always have total peace of mind when I travel, knowing he's taking care of my cats. He's reliable, thoughtful, and it's clear from his daily updates that he genuinely cares about them -- not just feeding and litter duty, but actually noticing their moods, habits, and quirks. He understands how much I love them, and he treats them with the same level of care. I wouldn't trust anyone else! read more

Scott is a terrific cat sitter. When he first came over, aside from keys and alarm codes, he was completely focused on getting to know the cat. Truly a cat whisperer, the cat and he got onto the same wavelength and just vibed. When we got home the mail and plants were taken care of, and the cat was more lively and happy than ever. It was obvious that he'd had a great time with Scott, read more

Scott has been a loyal friend to my cats the last ten years. He emails daily and takes care of litter et al. Unfortunately I am moving to Alameda soon where he doesn't service. I hope I'm able to find someone as caring and thorough there. read more

Scott is amazing! He went above and beyond with our little kitty, Tuna. He played with her and spent extra time to make her feel comfortable. He even got packages for us while we were away. Scott was incredibly professional and provided great communication while taking care of our cat, Riley, while we were away. He even watered our plants for us! There was frequent communication and he sent a log of each visit. Our trip was last minute and somewhat unexpected, but he was very flexible. Overall, we would absolutely recommend him if you're looking for a pet sitter. read more

I travel a lot for business (at least two trips a month) and Scott with Cat Calls is a lifesaver! My two furbabies, Matilda and Toby, can get into a lot of trouble if bored and/or lonely, but he gives them such good attention it is better than having one of my friends stay at my place. Other people in my job have had to give up their cats because of acting out (peeing on suitcases and such) but I say thanks to Scott's wonderful attention to my cats, I have not had any behavioral problems and have been able to continue to have a great relationship with them. Sometimes I even think one of my cats, Toby, might like Scott more than me. And he usually HATES men. What I'm really trying to say is; if you need someone to take good care of you feline loved ones, definitely call Scott at Cat Calls! read more

Cat Calls - Toby and Matilda. Happy after visits from Scott. - Pet Sitting Near Me

We used Scott's services for about four years, and are very sad to have to find another pet sitter because we've moved out of his service area. He was always very quick to respond to requests for cat sitting, and was available for every trip we took, both well planned and short notice (like, short short notice - we got stuck in Tahoe once because they closed the roads for snow - Scott was able to keep on coming and caring for our cat without issue). Before we started using Scott as our cat sitter, we had been boarding our cat at the vet. Our cat is not a fan of other furry creatures, and would always return home stressed and upset from being in a kennel near other animals. We decided to start doing in-home cat sitting instead and it was the best decision we could have made. Scott's daily emails were a great peace of mind, knowing that everything was going well with our little guy. Plus, when we got back home, our cat was content, well-cared for, and emotionally chill. Scott and his team were so easy to communicate with if anything came up, adjusting to our cat's changing feeding and medication instructions without issue. I can't recommend Cat Calls enough. read more

Scott has been the best cat sitter. He sent me updates on text or email and leaves a diary on every visit that includes length of visit, cats mood, and flavor wet food they were fed. My cats, MJ and Pugsley love being in his care. They are both high maintenance persian felines. Scott has been caring for my cats for 2 years and everytime I return home from a week away, my cats look show ready, brushed, fed and most important for persians, clean eyes. Scott even vacuums the fur and picks up our mail. Do not hesitate to leave your house keys with Scott, he is very trustworthy. read more

Our family has sadly moved out of Scott's area. We were very happy with his care for our fuzzy friend during many trips out of town over the past few years. Very reliable and pleasant to communicate with. He persevered through some initially trying times with our sometimes moody cat and became good buddies with him. Thanks for all of the peace of mind and flexibility in helping with last minute requests. You're great at what you do! read more

A few days before leaving for vacation in Hawaii, I still had not found anyone to watch my cat, Emerson. I started to form a mental checklist of my friends. "Friend #1? Allergic. Friend #2? Traveling with me. Friend #3? Hates my cat." I realized that I had no suitable prospects to watch Emerson, and so I turned to the internet and ventured into a territory previously unexplored - the land of professional pet-sitters. I found Scott through Yelp, and I will NEVER, EVER again burden any of my friends with the responsibility of my only "child." First, Scott came over to my apartment the day before I left, for free, just so he could meet my cat and walk through the process of coming in, feeding him, and leaving. I thought this was very sweet and good for my peace of mind but perhaps a little unnecessary - but boy was I wrong. The simple task of coming in and feeding my cat involved lots of little oddities - such as only locking the top lock and not the bottom - that would have been missed by a less-thorough person. Scott's reports were wonderful. He sent text updates letting me know everything was fine and even posted a picture of Emerson to his Facebook wall with a witty quip about transcendentalism - love! In addition to being super-professional and super-thorough, Scott is just a NICE guy. He is completely trust-worthy and genuinely loves animals. So the next time you're wondering who to entrust your pet and home to, I highly, highly recommend Cat Calls! read more

OK, I have never written this...but if there were six stars, I would give them to Cat Calls and Scott! Professional, warm, caring, communicative, easy! You can just tell by the website, this guy really cares about the business of pets. And he is so professional, yet caring and at ease. Scott has cared for my cat, Bastian, two times now. After two rounds, I can honestly say that leaving my cat with Scott feels like I am leaving him with one of my own family. Scott sends regular check in e-mails, he leaves a daily diary, he tends to all of my slightly "needy" cat's requests for nonstop love, games, food, water, etc-and when I arrive home, Bastian seems so de-stressed! Like he has been home spa-ing while I have been away! I actually think think that now, when Bastian sees me pull down my luggage from the closet, he gets excited where he used to get anxietized! Of course, this could all be projection. But what I do know for certain: Bastian is a very content and calm cat when I arrive home after he has been in Scott's care. And that is what matters most! read more

I have used Scott to watch my cantankerous cat Lucy for over a year now, and he's absolutely awesome. Usually my cat is frightened of strange men (she's a pretty skittish cat), but the first time she met Scott, she reacted with lukewarm interest (a rather positive sign in Lucy's world) instead of deep suspicion. Scott, to his credit, lit up as soon as he saw Lucy and immediately got down to her level and exuded warmth towards her without being pushy (the sign of a veteran cat person who realizes that some cats need time to warm up before letting people approach and pet them). I could tell right away that he loves cats, and that helped put my mind at ease. Scott's VERY organized and professional and thorough. When you first sign up, he brings over paperwork for you to fill out and leaves a nice checklist of things he'd like you to do before you leave for your trip. He makes you promise to notify him as soon as you come back from your trip so that he knows he can stop the cat visits--if you don't notify him, then he'll keep coming to check on the cat since he doesn't want the pet to be stranded by unexpected circumstances. While I was away, he sent me regular emails updating me on his visits to Lucy (describing her behavior that day and what they did together, be it grooming or playing or whatever), including photos of her to let me know she was okay, and he left a daily log recording everything he done on my coffee table, too. The most positive sign, though? When I came home from my week-long trip away and opened my front door, I saw Lucy look up at me from her cat bed and then return to her nap instead of running over to meow at me with plaintive cries. I knew then that Lucy had been well-taken care of, because when I work a lot of overtime, Lucy comes running to the door to let me know she's irritated by my absence and in need of attention. She only stays in her cat bed to watch me settle in when she feels relaxed and emotionally secure, and clearly, Scott was able to help her feel that way despite me being gone for a week. I really, REALLY like Cat Calls and highly recommend him. I hope I never move out of his service area (I recently moved to the very border of his service area and was panicked about losing his services, but he was nice about it and said he'd still keep me on despite the inconvenience of traveling to where I am). While encouraging other clients to hire him will probably make it harder for me to book him over busy holidays, I believe cats will benefit by having him as their sitter. So don't be afraid to check Scott out--he'll do a great job for your furbabies. :) PS: On a total side note, Scott's also a really nice guy to humans! I lost my house key earlier this year and was panicked about how to get into my apartment to take care of Lucy (the spare set was also, lucky for me, temporarily in my apartment since I had *just* had them returned from visiting friends). He was super cool about trying to work with me and my obnoxious schedule to help me get my key back and drop in on Lucy in my absence. Really trustworthy and down-to-earth guy who keeps a flexible and chill outlook on things. read more

I highly recommend Cat Calls! Scott recently came by on a daily basis to take care of and hang out with my kitty while I was gone on a 5-day trip. Usually I'd have friends do this, but they were all also out of town. I think that having Scott come by was *well* worth it though, and I won't hesitate to call on him again the next time I'm gone, even if my friends are around. I think that the time (45 mins - 1 hr per visit) and care he takes is worth the price. He stopped by a couple of days beforehand to meet me and the cat, see the home layout, and ask me a lot of relevant questions. I was impressed by his combo of professionalism/practicality and down to earth friendliness. When I got back, he'd left a sheet with a little write-up of each visit, which was adorable and thorough. I didn't have him get my mail or water plants, but he said he'd do that as part of the service in future, and I'd trust him to do so reliably. Thanks Scott! read more

Scott is wonderful. He took great care of my babies while I was gone. He sent me thoughtful emails each day letting me know my two cats were doing well. When I arrived home there was a lovely detailed recap of his time with my sweeties and even asked to contact him when I arrived home. He patiently listened to my overprotective crazy cat lady instructions and followed them. If you're lucky enough to live in his service range and need a sitter, hire him. read more

Scott has been our cat sitter for 2 years... we've now had to move out of his service area and are really bummed about it. Ever since switching to a cat sitter rather than boarding our cat when we go out of town, our cat has been much calmer upon our return. She seems comfortable and happy after Scott visits. Scott has always been available every time we've needed him, even for 2 weeks at a time over the holidays. He sends daily emails to keep in touch and he's happy to do other small things when he stops by, like bring in mail and packages. I would greatly recommend Cat Calls! read more

Cat Calls was recommended to me by my leasing office. Upon speaking to Scott he came across as very professional and trustworthy. In an in person interview, he had a very thorough and comprehensive check list to go over with me prior to my trip which also built my confidence in his pet sitting service. I was gone for 5 days and I had Scott drop by every day to care for my two kitties. When I returned I was delighted to see that they were very happy and well adjusted. As a matter of fact, I think the kitties can't wait until Mama's next trip so Cat Calls can come sit. I highly recommend Scott Lackland and his pet sitting service and I will certainly use him again. read more

Scott is the very best. He's been watching our 12 year old cat over the past 3 years, and has provided so much reassurance whenever we're away. Our cat Mowgli can be a little cranky with strangers, but Scott knows how to read him and give him the security and love that he needs. The notes he leaves and emails he sends give us so much peace of mind. We don't know what we'd do without him! He's simply the best! read more

I found Scott three years ago here on Yelp, and since then he's been the only one to look after my boys, Rudy and Kenny. From the first time he met them it was obvious he really cared about looking after their wellbeing. Scott has been watching my cat when I'm gone for almost a year and a half now and I am so grateful for him! Scott is amazing, and absolutely gives you the peace of mind you need knowing your pet is in perfect hands while you're away. I am a first-time cat caregiver and worried about so much about leaving my sweet 7-month-old kitten. Scott is the consummate professional and so skilled at what he does, and really took those fears away. The entire process of working with him is spectacular: - He came over to meet my cat and explain how everything would work, learn what she eats and how she plays, and generally got his bearings while immediately forging a relationship with my kitty. - He e-mailed in advance of my departure to let me know what time of day he would be coming over during my absence, so that I would have comfort in knowing what to expect. - Once my travel started, he kept in constant contact, sending me e-mails summarizing how the day went and pictures to show that my cat was not only alive but also happy! - And upon my return, he left a wonderful written summary of events providing ample information about their experience. I am just so grateful for Scott, and that miraculously I am in his geographic area! Thank you, Scott, for everything you do, and for giving me peace of mind while I'm away. You totally rock. read more

Scott is _outstanding_. An absolute model in professional kitty care. I echo the other comments. Scott does everything right --- and very well. He's a total pro in terms of staying in contact, including always making sure that he knows when I'm back from a trip and the cats are back in safe (or at least my) hands. He spends a generous amount of time with the cats, always takes care of everything that needs doing, without fail. Leaves helpful reports. And he obviously has a real fondness for our feline comrades. I'm confident in Scott and I'm certain that the cats consider him a good and reliable buddy, too. I've used professional pet sitters for 25 years: in North Carolina, then Atlanta, then here in Oakland. Most of them have been good to very good. But Scott really stands out from the crowd. This is how you do this business. An _easy_ Highly Recommended. No need to look elsewhere. This chap is your answer. Thanks for everything, Scott! read more

Scott recently watched my two cats in April. He first stopped by for a consultation and somehow I found myself giving him a whole list of instructions about food, litter, and medication. I felt bad because two cats should be easy, but Scott was super nice and reassured me that the instructions were just fine and he would give my cats whatever they needed while I was gone. Scott sent me daily texts, and when I returned, he had compiled notes about each of his visits. I appreciated the notes because I could tell that the cats acted like their normal selves while I was gone, and that meant they were happy! One cat loves to play and the other loves to cuddle, and both of them had their time with Scott. My cats definitely complain when they are unhappy, and when I returned, it was just another day. No complaints from the cats. Scott is awesome and I highly recommend his services! read more

Like everyone else here, I cannot be happier with the service Scott gave for my cat Benny. Scott had all the t's crossed and the i's dotted, spent time playing with Benny, getting the mail, cleaning up the occasional upset stomach incident, and sent a text message with details- including some watery eyes that turned out to just be a cold. I could tell right away that Scott was not just doing this to make money, he truly cares for his clients. I felt the same way when I returned and found the litter box super clean, the food and water dishes full, and the mail neatly stacked. I cannot recommend Scott highly enough. read more

Scott is wonderful!!! He is so professional and experienced. And he clearly understands and enjoys cats. He contacted me daily with updates, which was so comforting. When we arrived home, our Alder looked great (he usually looks like he hasn't groomed much when we go away) so I know he was feeling good while we were gone. Scott also left us notes about his visits to enjoy when we got home. I am so excited to have found Scott. We have another trip coming up and it's so nice to know I won't have to worry about our Alder! =^..^= read more

Scott is terrific. He watched my dog with my neighbors 2 dogs over this past weekend. At one point my dog got into a scuffle with one of the others and ended up bitten pretty good. Scott tended to her and after seeing she was pretty sore took her to the vet and then cared for her wounds and medication while I was gone. Upon my return, I received very detailed feedback on not just the wound care, but also day-by-day activities and behavior. Scott is reasonably priced, responsible, reliable, and a terrific pet sitter. He really cares about animals and sees the best in all of them. I will surely use him again. He's terrific. read more

I had Scott look after my two cats, George and Ira, when I went away for a week to a wedding in Santa Barbara. It was such a relief to have him there taking care of everything while I was gone. My cats are, shall we say, ACTIVE and a lot of times when I've gone away I've come back to a completely trashed apartment. Not this time! The apartment looked great and my cats looked well-adjusted and happy. They had clearly had play time and exercise and not just with each other! They acted like I hadn't left. His consultation prior to my trip left me completely at ease. Like Grace alluded to, it's funny that when you start listing all the stuff you do for your cats, it starts to seem like a really hard job! Scott was totally unfazed and I realized my kitties should be more grateful for all the things I do for them! Just kidding. Kinda. :-) I loved loved loved Scott's daily text messages and his thorough report left for me when I returned home. It's so fun to read how your cats did when you were gone! He even sent me a picture of them. Spoiled kitties. I know my cats like Scott because he played with them a lot more than I do. Haha. Also, Scott's a fellow Midwesterner, so you KNOW he's trustworthy. I can't recommend Scott enough! read more

5 stars all the way! Don't look further if you need a pet sitter. Scott was recommended to us by a neighbor. He is known by office staff and a regular at our apartment community, which was great news from the beginning. We left Scott a VM and he returned our call almost immediately. We scheduled an introduction visit, to go over his checklist, etc. and to meet our cat. I was pleasantly surprised how thorough he was with his process. We agreed on terms, frequency and price. (Cat Calls rates are very affordable, which is another reason for 5 stars). Scott offered to collect our mail while we were out, which was a big help as well. We were away for 2 weeks and Scott was visiting our cat every other day. We were outside of the country and it was nice to receive email notes from Scott about his visit and to know our cat is doing well and cared for while we are away. When we came back we found our cat in good spirits, he was happy and healthy :) which was enough to give thumbs up to Cat Calls. However, Scott also left a little journal about each of his visits, and 2-weeks' worth of mail :) Our cat takes a while to warm up to new people and when the next day Scott came to drop off our keys, it was nice to see that our cat recognized him immediately and came out to greet him at the door :) Thank you Scott!!! We will definitely use Cat Calls again and recommend him to anyone who needs a caring sitter for their pet, which does not always mean a cat; Scott is sitting other pets too, including reptiles! read more

Scott took fantastic care of our cat, Tom while we were away for an extended vacation. I met with Scott the week before and so he could meet Tom. Scott took great care in learning all about Tom, his habits, food needs and play needs. We opted for the once a day visit, and like clockwork, Scott met with Tom at the same time each day. Scott's service was wonderful and the best option when Tom can not travel with us. Being locked in a small cage at a pet hotel just isn't the right choice for a cat that spends its time in a house. Tom gets to stay in familiar surroundings and still gets to have a visitor each day. Scott has been very patient with our cat, emailed us an update each day after his visit and wrote a log each day he came over. We will certainly hire Scott again for his wonderful services in the future. Tom is lucky to have such a great service available in the area. Thank you Cat Calls! read more

Thanks Yelpers for recommending Scott and Cat Calls. When looking for a cat sitter, I turned to yelp and based on the positive reviews and his website decided he was worth the call. When we met him, our cat -- no kidding -- acted like she was FLIRTING with him -- she instantly liked him that much. This is a kitty who is distrustful of new people especially men (we think she was abused as a kitten prior to living with us). Anyway, not with Scott. Apparently, while we were on vacation, they had many love fests, lots of laser tag games and brushing sessions. He texted us pretty much every visit to update us and then left a long written catalog of his daily visits. WOW! AND he is incredibly reasonable. 10 Stars for sure! read more

Scott is professional, affordable and great with the kitties. He has taken care of my two cats twice now. He spends 45 minutes playing with them and gives me an update about how they're doing after every visit. I agree with Cari J., if there were 6 stars I would give Scott 6 stars! read more

Scott is pretty amazing. I moved to the Bay area in August and did not have anyone to watch my iguana. I tried a pet service that said they would watch iguanas and they were horrible. My iguana doesn't need a lot of care and is very sociable and they took advantage of that. They left moldy food out for him, didn't make a bath for him to poop and I came home from a trip with my iguana in the corner covered in poop. I explained the situation to Scott and he was very sincere. He came over to hang out with Monster when I was home and then once more to go over last minute details. I know iguanas are not that common and I was ready to give him as much info as I could. I was happily surprised to know that he researched iguanas before coming over. He is very honest too and his reports are awesome. I have never had anyone be so great with my iguana. I would recommend him to anyone. His price is great and he just cares about your pets. Scott took fantastic care of my high-maintenance kitty, Nube, when I had to leave for a last-minute work trip. I would recommend Cat Calls without hesitation, and will definitely be calling Scott again the next time I need to travel. read more

Scott is so thoughtful and responsive. He provides brief updates while I'm out of town, and leaves detailed notes of his interactions with the cats for me upon return. I've hired Scott to watch my beloved cat, Harmony, twice now, and both times he has exceeded my expectations.
