Avoid Barefoot Yacht Charters! We had a horrible experience. The boat was dirty and unprepared when…read morewe showed up for our stay aboard night before the cruise. There was a used, dirty band aid in the galley sink. Someone told use they would comp the stay aboard night because they agreed the boat wasn't prepared but then at the end of the charter, a base manager told us the person had no authority to comp us that night and we had to advocate about it. We were six people aboard. There wasn't enough service ware or cups aboard or pots or pans. The boat seemed to have been underwater at some point as there were soft, squishy spots in the cabin sole. Really gross. The refrigeration didn't work because the batteries would not hold a charge. We had to monitor the transmission fluid every day because it was leaking and on the last day of the cruise the transmission fluid leaked all over an aft cabin. When we complained at the end of the cruise, instead of apologizing, we were told that we said we were experienced so we should be able to deal with it. Not an acceptable item for charters to have to monitor. We spoke to the manager at the charter base at the end of the cruise. To compensate us for our the inconvenience, we were to be comped dinner at the restaurant at the charter base. When we arrived at dinner, we were told we were limited to only certain menu items and wine and beer. After a loud discussion, the restaurant manager agreed to honor the commitment and we were able to order what ever we wanted to eat or drink. In the pre-charter seminar, we were told to avoid certain islands and go to others, to only learn other charters went to the island we were told to avoid and had a safe, fun time. There was no fair dealing with this charter company and we felt lied to and mislead through the entire experience. The base manager we originally contracted with had a falling out with the company and the boat we contracted to charter belonged to him. We were caught in the middle of a dispute and instead of tryng to make it right for us, Barefoot Yacht Charters made use feel it was our fault. We learned the hard way and hope our experience expressed in this review will save someone else the horror we experienced.

His knowledge and experience are impressive. I appreciate how patiently he explained things and took us through all of our lessons in a way that is easy to understand, then always showed us how to use those lessons practically. One day during our journey we had high winds and rain. It tested my limits and also my nerves, but Ben remained calm throughout our challenging sail that day and continued to make it a learning experience. Ben's itinerary for the week was perfect. He chose beautiful anchorages for us to spend our evenings, we enjoyed dips in the ocean whenever we wanted! We explored the local culture and had our fair share of chilled rosé & sunsets.
