I had called weeks in advance to make a reservation and even called back to confirm it, so it was rather disappointing when they had no record of it upon our arrival. They did squeeze us in at the front by the bar at a high-top table, though it was only semi-cleaned and still had a few old drinks scattered about, which did not exactly inspire confidence. They were very apologetic and said they would make it right and hook us up, but nothing ever actually came of that. That said, the food and drinks did quite a bit to improve the mood. My chai tea espresso martini was absolutely delicious and unlike anything I have had before. We also ordered quite a few apps, and the buffalo chicken dip, pretzel bits, and especially the chicken parm sliders were all standouts. The chicken tenders and Parmesan truffle fries were very good as well. We had hoped to stay for live music, but after the musician sat waiting with all the equipment for over 45 minutes, we decided to leave. Overall, not a bad time, just an unfortunate mistake on their part with very little effort to truly fix it.

Our stay included a breakfast buffet each morning, and a manager's reception in the evening with beer, wine, spirits, and snacks. Our suite had a living area with a mini fridge, sink, small table, a couch, and a TV. The bedroom had two beds and a TV. Both rooms had access to the bathroom. Only one of two bathroom doors had a lock though. After someone used the shower, the shower-head would drip onto a metal bar at the bottom and made an annoying sound. We couldn't stand it anymore and put a towel on the metal bar. Other than those couple of things, we had a good stay here and would do it again. It's also right by the water, great for a morning stroll and to catch the sunrise or sunset.

I had a horrible experience here tonight, made so much worse by IHG Platinum Elite Card "customer…read moreservice." I arrived for a 2-night stay that I booked with my Platinum Elite card on the IHG website. After I'd unpacked in the first room, I went to use the bathroom and saw that the toilet was cracked from the bottom of the porcelain all the way up. Super dangerous. Pic attached. So I went back to the front desk and informed the manager, Keara (who to be fair was super kind - my issues are not with her), and she gave me the keys to another room. I decided instead of packing up and moving everything over, to check out the room first to ensure everything was ok so that I wouldn't have to do this again. I went up, checked the bed, and there was a literal bed bug crawling on the pillow. Pic attached. I told front desk who said "bed bugs are clear" (they are not). I asked for a refund and she said she would refund me, but I'd already been charged by IHG. She said they're a separate franchise and don't have the same system. So I went out to my car and called IHG and was on with two different people for nearly 25 minutes. I had to retell my story twice and they said they couldn't do anything in the way of a refund. I said I needed a place to stay (at this point it was 9:30pm and I was sitting in a dark parking lot after having driven 10 hours). They said they'd book me at a similar IHG property nearby - a Holiday Inn Express - - and they confirmed my card info and charged my card there for two nights - and this new hotel was significantly more expensive. I said I needed compensation - at least tonight free. They said I could talk to their manager and I said yes, they put me on hold again, and then I spoke to a woman who was very unfriendly and unaccommodating and told me they couldn't offer me any compensation, and that they "didn't have access to my payment method." The man before her literally had my card info - I was calling the IHG CREDIT CARD COMPANY customer service. This was the same call and made no sense. Then she said all they could offer me was 7,000 points to my card but that it would release the hotel of all liability should my things now be infested with bed bugs. I said no. They told me to go to the Holiday Inn and talk to the front desk. I went the HI, and despite IHG customer service saying they had charged my card over the phone, the hotel had no reservation for me. So the front desk charged my card AGAIN (at this point I needed a place to stay). I looked at my bank statement and I was charged TWICE at Candlewood. This is all insane. This has been the single worst customer experience of my life.

Upon walking in I kind of gave my husband a look like what is this place. Honestly it was like walking into someone's home with a reception desk and a bar of that makes sense... LOL! I had no idea what to expect of the rooms. Honestly, we booked this place last minute so I briefly reviewed the pictures and reviews but was just ready to get away. BUT when we got to the room, after self parking at the public garage behind the hotel, we opened the door to the cutest little room. It was sized as if it was in New York City but had cute boho chic charm. It's perfectly located in the middle of everything and the walkability was what we enjoyed most. We walked to all of the best restaurants and shops once we parked, we only left the a garage once the entire time there. We loved the daily breakfast and were intentional about making it downstairs for it. The grits were absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and once topped with the shredded cheese and fresh cracked pepper, I couldn't get enough! The pastries and biscuits were also very good. The biscuits and pastries tasted like someone's grandma made them. I know this review is long, so I'll stop now even though I could say so much more. We'll definitely return because I failed to try their espresso martini and they boast to have the best. Note: There's a valet option but the self parking seemed easier. If you've ever stayed here, I'd love to hear about your experience.
