I would give this company negative stars if I could. We were very clear about our complete by date and they won't start until after. When I let them know there were 4 days that we would potentially not be able to have some one in our home because there would be minor children with no adult they were unwilling to make any adjustments. This is a difficult review for me. I haven't had any experience using any other remodelers so I don't have anything to compare them to. So how did I arrive at the 4 stars you ask? Pros: 1) We are thrilled with the outcome of our kitchen and addition of a fireplace. It looks phenomenal, and our friends and family love it too! 2) Castle was great at communicating with us. When they said they would do something, they did it. They respond to emails quickly and kept us informed throughout the entire process. When we had issues, it was taken care of right away. 3) They use local products when it makes sense - pretty cool!! Cons: 1) There were hiccups along the way, things weren't measured correctly or ordered on time, causing some delays. When it was all said and done, they finished during the time frame that was promised, we just would have liked it if things didn't have to be remeasured. 2) It costs a lot of money, again, I can't compare this to other companies, but it is expensive. For the quality of work, I would say it is a good value, and you get peace of mind with the way they communicate. Things to keep in mind if you go with Castle: 1) From when you start the design phase of the project to completion is a long time. They spend a lot of time on the design phase to ensure you get what you want, and to not have changes during the actual remodel. 2) There are numerous designers at Castle, so if you get a designer that you think doesn't mesh with your personality or design style, ask for another one. read more

great experience from top to bottom. We got a Groupon for an attic design. My wife and I wanted to increase the sq footage living space in the house. Troy came over and listened to us and helped us come up with an idea of what to do in the attic. He made any adjustments we needed to. We talked to him about wanting to do some work ourselves and they helped us figure out what we could do. Then Courtney helped us get materials and finalize the project. Bill the project manager was amazing to work with. He was always keeping us up to date on things and helping us with ideas for items while on the project. Only thing we weren't happy with is not by the fault of the Castle group was the plummer had to make some changes to running pipes and placing vent in the new bathroom and did consult anyone to on the changes just made the changes. I would recommend them for remodeling jobs and I would use them again. read more

My project bid included adding insulation between joists and add skirting around the perimeter of an outdoor porch. I was promised an itemized bid within 1 week. After two weeks had passed, I emailed Castle to inquire about my bid. They said I would have it in one week. One week later, I received an email saying their insulation subs didn't think I could add insulation to between my floor joists. I assured them as a homeowner, I know how my porch was constructed and they could indeed add insulation, please proceed with the bid. In one more week, they returned stating they weren't interested in taking on my job. I was very disappointed with the entire transaction with Castle. Castle was wonderful to work with. The designer (Ashley H) worked well with us to design a project that was satisfying and within our budget. Both the construction manager (Steve) and Ashley were very responsive, communicative, warm and friendly, and worked with us closely throughout the design and build process. We received regular updates about building schedules, advice on how to prepare for different phases of building and were helpful with advice on changes/choices we had to make re: plumbing, wall configurations, etc. Overall, we had a very satisfying experience and the finished work is high quality. They were on-time (almost always) and stayed on budget. Highly recommend. Description of work: Half bath and coat closet installation on first floor. Installation of storage cabinets, tech tube on first floor and upstairs bathroom. Replacement of kitchen ceiling. Remodeling/fixing second floor bathroom, which included tub replacement, toilet replacement, and re-tiling. Re-finishing all wood floors on the first floor, and refinishing wood stairway between first and second floor. Painting walls and ceilings of kitchen, living room, bathroom, 2nd bathroom, new closet, bathroom on the 2nd floor, staircase. Replacing bathroom exhaust fans. Replacing front storm door. Tiling back entryway. Replacing/installing new light/fan fixtures in the living room, new bathroom, new hallway. Installing new ductless mini-split system on first floor, second floor and third floor. Fixing baseboard issues in bedroom closet. Fixing various indoor doors. read more

We really wanted to like this company. After our experience however, I would only recommend them if you want to spend at least $40,000 upwards for a complete, no-questions-asked teardown. This wasn't our situation. Instead we ended up paying Castle several hundred dollars just for an estimate and wasting a couple months' time (pushing our entire project timeline back). There were at least six instances where the Castle project consultant or the contractors Castle had walk through our house made mistakes that would have jacked up the initial estimate by thousands of dollars. The mistakes ranged from obvious to neglectful. For example, they snuck work back into our estimate after we asked for it to be removed, and didn't tell us. They didn't reply to project-critical questions when sent by email. A small task that we knew would cost around $100 appeared as a $400 charge on their estimate (not including their profit markup). Etc. etc. When we pointed these issues out at the time, we were met with either a flip response or defensiveness. In the end, we were told by Castle that they could not do our project at the scale we had discussed because they suddenly had a minimum budget (despite saying they would be happy to take any sized project during our initial conversation). We dodged a bullet by not choosing Castle! It's just unfortunate it cost us hundreds and a lot of time and frustration. read more

My wife and I bought our first house last year and are interested in expanding our tiny little upstairs bathroom. We've never done such a thing so when we saw a Groupon for a Bathroom re-design from Castle - we took advantage of an opportunity to get an idea of what such a thing would entail and start planning. We met w/ a rep at our place and talked about our goals for the space and she went off to get something drawn up. We scheduled a follow up a few weeks later to see what she came up with... What we were presented with was a drawing on which she took the liberty of changing the footprint of the room we talked about by... ohhhh... one-third. ?? While meeting w/ her I made a simple suggestion of how to prevent that from being necessary (not my job) but she replied 'Oh yea, that would work.' ???? We walked out of there stunned at what we'd experienced. Don't get me wrong - the 3D renderings and proposed bathroom WAS awesome - it just wasn't what we asked for. At all. It took a few minutes of driving before we were both really upset about what had happened. This wasn't a 'plan B' option presented as a more spacious option to the plan A we had discussed - it was the final & only product. We never received a follow up call to see if we were interested in taking the next step. Never heard another word from them. In the end - we feel like we were given a pretty firm brush off - maybe because we were 'Groupon' customers - but businesses do those to get customers, right? Not just take their cut and bid potential profits a good day? Waste of time and money. read more

We hired Castle after getting similar bids from several other contractors. They helped us understand the scope of our full kitchen remodel and the hidden costs involved in adding on, working with us to save money by staying within our existing structure. Throughout the process they were willing and able to give us advice and suggestions when we needed them, but listened carefully to our wants and needs at each step. Although much of the work was done by subcontractors, I was consistently impressed with the quality of work by each trade AND it was readily apparent that Castle had done a great job of communicating with each of the people who had a hand in the project. Were there any issues? Of course. Materials were late or workers were busy on other projects, but that happens with any months-long project of this scope. The most annoying factor was sheet flooring that came up 4 inches short for the space and other measurements that resulted in unwanted (but well fixed) patches. When any concerns arose, they were quick to address them to our satisfaction. Before the project was complete, we were impressed enough to have Castle provide an exclusive bid (and ultimately all services on) an additional project rehabbing our bathroom shower area. Castle has helped our starter home become one that we will be happy to stay in for a very long time, but if any other major projects should arise, we won't hesitate to call them first. read more

They came for an initial consult, said they would get back to us with next steps and some rough estimates, but never did. Emailing with them, they would say, we'll get back to you really soon, and then hear nothing. Eventually they just ghosted us and wouldn't return any of our emails. I guess we were just too low of a priority project. They were nice when I met with them. read more

I too don't have much experience with remodelers or contractors but I had heard good things about Castle and I was impressed with their website. I spoke with them on the phone a few times and then had someone come to my house about 7 weeks ago to asses my attic and put a quote together. The meeting went great but the follow-thru was absolutely horrible. After having someone come to my house, I was supposed to get an itemized quote the following week. About a week later I got a nice email saying it would be a little longer as Aaron was going out of town. After that I've not heard another word. Absolutely no communication. I've emailed 3 times to ask if the quote is ready and no one has emailed me back, not even to say they are busy. They lost a customer, I am so disappointed in Castle. I would not use them or recommend them to anyone as they are not reliable. read more

I got a quote from these guys. It was about 2-3 times more than anyone else. Stay away. They are selling snake oil at VERY high prices.

I was very disappointed with my Castle experience. We had hired them to do a kitchen remodel-it involved making our house more of an open concept. I decided to go with them because I really liked Loren (the owner) and I thought he was a trustworthy person. I was very disappointed and feel like I lost a whole summer in getting my project done. There initial time estimate and there initial cost was very off. After I spent 5-8 weeks picking tiles, counter tops, etc there final numbers came back DOUBLE than what they had initially told me. They also have said that the project would take 5-8 weeks to get started and they ended up delaying and the time estimate was way off. I was very available to meet but my designer went on 2 vacations and each time my project would be pushed back by another 1-2 weeks. I asked if someone else could step if so we could maximize time but they were not responsive. I was very disappointed it my experience. I was especially upset because I wanted my kitchen reno to happen in the summer so that I could keep my kids outside (we have 2 young kids) and it ended up being a BIG WASTE OF TIME. I felt I was very straight forward with them and what I wanted and they keep reassuring me that they could do it and it ended up going no where. I would not waste my time with this company. read more
