Having wanted to marry at Disney ever since she was a child Castle Avalon was a dream come true with their ballroom an exact replica of Belle's ballroom in Beauty and the Beast. What made this experience even more magical was the Fairy God Mother/Wedding Planner Susan Brink Chauret! Every step of the process was clear and she was open to any questions that we had for her. She always returned our calls and was full of ideas and suggestions. She indeed was a Godmother! We loved the drive through the Hill Country to the Castle's twenty-two foot tall gatehouse off Highway 46. It's a romantic drive and so much more awaits you. Castle Avalon sits in the midst of lovely acreage. Not only is the beauty of the Castle in this dream like setting but the the grand ballroom is magical. The decor and many rooms gives many options for any need a bridal party might encounter. We were so pleased with our daughter and son in laws venue! This is the third time my family has held a shin dig here. It's always a good time. The decor, the architecture it's like I see it for the first time everytime I go back. However I think the only ballroom they have is beginning to get small for my family and friends. Even still I might go back for my own shin dig, here's hoping. read more

I recently went to an event at Castle Avalon. The venue is gorgeous! If you're looking for a unique venue that's intimate, elegant, and magical, Castle Avalon is your venue! The owner, Ron, was on hand the whole night and greeted guests as they arrived. The planner, Susan, was fantastic. She catered to every need of the group. No other venue can compare to Castle. The outdoor ceremony site is secluded and makes you feel like you're getting married in a secret garden. The reception site has BEAUTIFUL stained glass windows that shines onto the dance floor in a striking display. I only wish I wasn't already married so I could have my ceremony and reception at Castle Avalon! read more

This venue is beautiful, but absolutely the wrong place to have your wedding. It is very difficult to prepare and set up the hours they keep make it impossible for you to have access as needed to the venue. They are not accommodating in any way to your schedule. We were rushed and made to feel uncomfortable at all times. The rehearsal dinner was a Friday at six, people in the wedding party traveled from accross the country and all worked. To get through 281 and/or IH 35 traffic on Friday rush hour...we ran late and we were pressured to GET OUT at 7, awful!! Then the worst thing ever, after the wedding, which ended at 10, we had 15 people cleaning up and removing items (our people not theirs} the event had 150 guest, so there were a lot of thing. At 10:25 the owner went nuts. He attacked us verbally and basically threw us out. He screamed, yelled and acted like a baby!! His assistant told us she was calling the police, we had small children with us and literally had to just grab things and RUN out the door, we even felt threatened with a physical altercation. There was a lot more wrong, During the event the owner (dressed in ratty cargo pants and an ugly shirt)paced around staring at guests and what was on the plates, he was constantly lurking. Several people felt uncomfortable and wondered who he was. He looked like a bumb who had wandered into the party. I also caught one of their attendees making off with a bottle of champagne that was a gift on the gift table. While we were busy cleaning up, he was spotted scanning the table and reaching in and grabbing the bottle and scurrying off, I followed him, confronted him and got it back, his excuse "I didn't know whose it was" I had heard bad things about this place, overlooked the advise and am exceedingly sorry. Please, please head my warnings. This was awful. Three years prior I had my daughters wedding at the Hilton downtown and it was a glorious, stress free occasion, with the most respectful and accommodating people ever. Please avoid this place!!! There are so many other beautiful facilities in and around San Antonio and most are a lot cheaper and no outrageous owner causing you to have nightmares after!! read more

We came to this venue tonight for a friends wedding. I am still in awe how rude the staff at the reception were. I don't think I've ever experienced this at a restaurant much less at a wedding!! We were 15 mins after the champagne toast and the staff is coming by to pick up glasses. My husband's champagne glass was still half full and was drinking it. The staff lady insisted he gives it to her (there is over 3 hours left in the wedding) and he had to firmly say no MANY times that he was not done. Later on, I have a glass of water. The same glass I have been drinking water from for several hours. The same woman is insistent again to take my drink away from me that I had to repeat many times I would like to keep. About 15 minutes later, she walks back over with a plastic cup, stares at me rudely and is trying to hand me it. Says absolutely nothing. SO uncomfortable. I set it down and continue my conversation at our table. She then goes to take my drink away again! Still saying nothing to me or trying to be kind or explain what was going on. I literally had to pour my water from a glass cup to a plastic cup (with 2 hours left in the wedding!) to keep my water. She never one time kindly said "hey we are picking up the glassware, do you mind if i get you a different cup?" Later in the evening she and another guy keep trying to take peoples wine or drink that are in plastic cups and half full away from them after they already said no with plenty of time still left at the wedding. It was either embarrassing or just plain uncomfortable to have to protect and argue in front of others to keep your drink. Not a polite or professional way to treat the guests at someone's wedding when you know they paid so much for it! read more

Castle Avalon is a beautiful hidden gem in the Hill Country. Once you enter the Castle gates and down the winding driveway, you will start to see the top of the Castle emerge from the many Oak trees on property. This location in nothing less than amazing for any special event, especially weddings! The foyer entry is extraordinary! The 16th century authentic jousting Knight amours stand on each side of the wooden stair case which frames the spectacular unicorn and fairy stained glass window. The Queen's room is the perfect place for a Bride to feel like royalty while she is getting ready for her big day. For the Groom, there is a Man Cave to spend time in and get ready for the wedding. My favorite part of the Castle is the ballroom, it is breath taking! The matching Swarovski Crystal chandeliers and hand painted ceiling give the ballroom a soft magical glow. Especially once the sunset light comes through the ballroom windows. The garden courtyard is an intimate setting for a wedding ceremony for any couple to say "I do." Complete with a green archway and stone isle pathway with a wood garden gate, gives a "The Secret Garden" feeling. I feel Castle Avalon is a must visit for any couple that is looking for a unique location to have their wedding and or reception. read more
