You cannot find a better psychiatrist than Dr. Klyman. Decades ago she was known in Michigan as one of the top psychiatrists and now Los Angeles is lucky that she moved here. When I first met her, she was the President of the American Psychiatric Association in Michigan. I've known her in so many different capacities but the most important one is that she helped one of my favorite relatives through an incredibly traumatic experience, and that person is fully functional and well-adjusted today, largely due to the expertise and care of Dr. Klyman.
She's an expert at treating depression and many other conditions. After getting hit and run by a drunk driver, I found myself going to multiple neurologists, eye doctors, and pain management doctors.
Traditionally a primary care doctor is a centralized point that does all of the medication management, but I felt that these medications are so complicated and have so many interactions neurochemically that it was very important for the medication to be managed by an experienced psychiatrist who understands neurochemistry better than a good primary care doctor. In the end it took the neurologists 37 failed medications to find the two that worked helping my constant severe migraine and through it all Dr. Klyman help me manage that process in ways that safeguarded my brain health. She was always there and very responsive when I had side effects, she expertly slowly tapered me off of drugs so that I wouldn't have convulsions or seizures. Her level of psycho pharmacology knowledge is absolutely amazing. And she truly cares.
It's often said that psych psychiatrist don't make good therapists but I found that Dr. Klyman is excellent at both. She helped make me stronger during very hard times when I was navigating multiple disabilities due to the drunk driver and other issues. I'm so glad that I chose her to help me because she has a steady hand, excellent ethics, extensive experience, and she's incredibly bright. She's very comfortable with LGBT+ clients and other cultures and is very respectful of generational differences. I didn't feel like she was trying to push her viewpoint on me and when we had generational differences in goals or even differences in perspectives, she always took the time to understand what my goals were and helped me attain them.
I hope she never retires because the world needs this level of brilliance and compassion in the medical field. read more
