I asked them for recommendations on places that deliver since we were exhausted. He told us about Alley's pizza and said they deliver. It did take 45 minutes to get the food but, he told me it would so they met my expectation. OK so now to the food. We ordered a sausage pizza, a Chicken Alfredo and the Spaghetti and meatballs entree. DELICIOUS! Everything is soooo good. This is homemade food made with Love! We loved it all. And there was enough food left over for the three of us to have leftovers the second day. What a treat Alley's is. If you are considering going anywhere in Story City, this is the place. One word of caution regarding the hot food- the tongs were very hot to the touch. Almost too hot to touch. It's a steam table with heat lamps overhead. The fried chicken was very good! Always bustling on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Fun Day, Pickles has a great staff of friendly, small-town folks. They hustle! Food comes out timely, and is good quality. My wife had the French Dip sandwich and loved it (although she never dips her sandwich... wtf). I had the Patty Melt. It was cooked well on marble rye and was delicious. And I don't say that as a bad thing. It's an old school small town bar, and place for people to gather and eat pretty reasonably priced pizza. The building is old and not real attractive, but don't let that fool you. I don't know anything about this place, but I'd guess it's a family run joint. The bar tender was also our server....it was a quiet day there. She was quite pleasant and really did a good job. She may have been part of the owning family. The food was very reasonably priced and the pizza was surprisingly good. We had a thin crust pizza. The crust was very good. The fried pickles were pretty good too, although they were served in one of those red plastic baskets without any paper lining. I was a little surprised by that and hoped the basket was cleaned, but I was so hungry I actually didn't care. It tasted good. The beer was good and cold and pretty cheap too. I debated on giving this place 3 stars. My gut said to go with 4. If you can appreciate an old school pizza joint, that looks like it's held a couple of small town wedding receptions or parties in the back room, then you'll know why I gave it 4 stars. Not all people will love this place, but it sure hit the spot and helped us kill some time and drink a few cool ones before we had to move on.

Sadly, we were the only ones in the restaurant -- and it felt like not much has changed since the place opened back in the 50s or 60s. Same booths (I'm pretty sure), and not sure the last time they've been deep cleaned. The bathroom in particular was... rough. There's a really cool old jukebox that adds to the nostalgia -- but unfortunately, it was out of order. Would've been nice to sip on a beer while waiting (the pizza took quite a while), but just a heads-up: they only serve canned pop and bottled water. Now, the good news -- once the pizza finally arrived, it was **fantastic**. Classic brick-oven flavor, perfectly crisp, and loaded with flavor. We ate the whole thing even though we'd planned to save leftovers for my daughter and her roommate! If I lived in Boone, I'd absolutely order from here again -- but next time, it would definitely be takeout.

To start out... I'm not a local, I come to Ames once a month for work and love to try new bars and…read morerestaurants.. Figured I'd give this place a try! The feel and ambiance... mixed with a touch of nostalgic. Upon entering you are greeted with tables and chairs inches from the door. We thought that we entered from the side door. There was no host stand or sign stating that you should order in the back at the kitchen. We were confused. During our meal the radio was playing, and not nice music but a crude talk show that happened to be talking about someone getting a Brazilian wax... You'd think the place could pay for Spotify or music without ads... The booths were a tad old and crusty - But I suppose that's where the nostalgia comes in. The food... much to be desired. It was all cheap just okay. Everything lacked flavor. Nothing to write home about. The salads were massive and a great bargain. The cheese bread was disappointing, it was just melted cheese on a sub bun with store bought sauce. For a location called sauce and dough company. This was expected to be a highlight, but ended up being something that could easily be made at home. The pizza was decent, but confusing at best. For someone's first time, I'd expect there to be signs or mentions that the honey should go on the crust... I only found that out after once I read reviews. The crust was dry and lacked flavor without the honey or other seasoning... Am I the only one that thinks that you should not need honey to make pizza palatable. Also, if you add honey you add 70 cals each tablespoon. I know I didn't come to eat healthy but also... Everyone is right, so many toppings and cheese. But again, lacks flavor. The prices... very reasonable. We got two large salads, two beers, an app and a large pizza for $50. Very reasonable. Overall, I won't be back but am glad I at least tried an Ames staple.
