I left Iowa in 1998, but when I did live here, when ever I had the hunger for pizza, it was ALWALYS the Chicken Alfrado pizza at the Other Place. There was just nothing better. Now, I haven'y been in Iowa for some time, but recent events brought me back, and I found myself in Clear Lake. A lot has changed. I drive down Main St and see all the changes. Does anyone remember Jerry Krause, who used to own the old truck stop that was called "Milepost 194" who eventually sold it, and then bought the Town Pump bar on Main? Anyway, back to the Other Place. It's been 28 years since I had their Chicken Alfrado pizza, and I knew that being back in town that I just had to have one again. I have to say. The one I got served Friday, was NOT like I remembered. It was dry. I couldn't even tell there was alfredo sauce on the pizza? it seemed like crust, chicken and cheese. Granted, there was plenty of cheese and chicken, but the lack of sauce was dissapointing. I don't know if the alfredo sauce is made in house, or if it's brought in. maybe their destributor changed over the years, and they can't get the same sauce that they used 28 years ago. Maybe the business changed ownership and changes were made. I don't know. What I can tell you is that back in 1998, the Alfredo Chicken pizza was AMAZING. It was my go to. It was best thing on the menu. It was what I recommended to everyone I knew. The pizza I had during my recent visit was just.... Meh...

The crust is airy and baked just right. We love the Hawaiian (Canadian bacon and pineapple). We also tried the nachos as a starter and they were delicious. No dinner is complete without a couple of their goblet sized drinks- strawberry daiquiri and margarita are long-time favorites. Service is always friendly and they make an effort to get your food and drinks to you quickly. We go to other outdoor dining locations in Clear Lake- but we always return to GE-Jo's.

The chips were definitely not homemade and the beef was just a bit dry, I've definitely had better, but it was loaded with a nice amount of toppings and the salsa was good. Both were tons of food for us to split and be full to continue our journey home. Our server was attentive and even offered to accommodate my friends' light diet request despite us not going that route.

Ok hold on- this place used to be Elly's but somebody bought it and renamed it Sunset Sharkies Pub…read more& Grub. But Amanda just bought it and changed the name back to Elly's! The sign is elegant and says Elly's which is actually a B&B. We had to look around and finally found a set of stairs right off the sidewalk that lead down to a cool little bar! I fell in love! The new owner is also the bartender- Amanda! She is so much fun! The beer is cold but the food is limited- frozen pizza and hotdogs but we were hungry and in a great mood. There is also a big patio with live music on the weekends. Why the rare 5 Stars? Because the owner is cool, the patrons cool and the place is quirky and like a speakeasy- hard to find but damn worth it!
