Gayle, her Mom, and I passed through Carrington (~2000 folks) on our way to and back from Harvey (population ~1700). These 2 population centers are about 55 miles apart, and with a whole lot of flat prairie in between. That means that in these parts, you may not want to wait until the next town to fill up the car with gasoline.
Gayle was actually born here in Carrington. However, the town hospital is long gone, as is the railroad depot and other signs of historical Soo Line glory.
As for Casey's General Store, it's a combination of truck stop (with showers), gas station, and convenience store/food counter. There are separate fuel bays for cars and big trucks, which I didn't figure out at first. Self serve is self serve no matter what gas station, so the fill-up was very straightforward, including cleaning the windshield of multiple bugs. However, when you consider the various people who stop by here for various reasons, the inside lines for snacks, etc. were surprisingly long.
