I like this place enough that we get it 2-3 times a year even though we live about an hour away (driving 2 hours out of your way with no other errands or stops along the route is a lot for pizza). It's clean, just off the highway, and attached to a hotel. Every time we go I think of all of the restaurants attached to hotels that I have had when traveling for work and how few of them were even in the same approximate quality realm as this place. The wait staff have always been pleasant and competent with a couple of stand out great experiences. But the food - the bone in wings are good. They are normal sized, not steroid franken-chicken. There are several sauce options, but we like the traditional buffalo. Salad is good. Like the wings, it is solid. The pizza is why we go. We get the Chicago style although the thin crust is decent, too. The sausage and pepperoni are balanced, the vegetables delicious, the crust and tomatoes very nice, and best of all the cheese is mozzarella and old school. Nothing tastes plasticky and frankenfood. It reminds me of restaurants 25 years ago. Highly recommend, even if it's a long drive.

We went on 5 June...we were in our hotel still, awaiting household shipment. It was raining very hard but we had read about Gianni's and wanted to give it a shot. We were greeted by the owner, and had a great conversation with her while we waited for the food. It was like catching up with an old friend. She was warm, kind and delightful. We felt like we were visiting a home, the decorations were clean and elegant. I look forward to getting back over for a sit down. I had lasagna, and my wife had pasta Alfredo. Both meals came with a pretty big salad, and bread sticks. The dressing was fantastic, I think a simple oil & vinegar based with a great herb note to it. Both pasta dishes were excellent, a good healthy portion (I was stuffed but ate every bite of everything because it was good. Disclaimer: this visit was on Mother's Day so we understood that it would be crowded with longer wait time. First time in restaurant. The tables are packed claustrophobic tight. Or table was smack up against the side of the salad bar. I was afraid my hair would get in the lettuce. Every time someone walked past our table they bumped into the chairs. Payment is No cards, cash/check only and this info is NOT published anywhere but on a notecard taped to the cash register which was blocked from view as we were seated. Not on the door, not on the website. I see it's here in the comments on Yelp, but I had poor signal and didn't do a review search, just looked at the website. Poor treatment by owners - attitude was not "I'm sorry for your poor experience" but "I'm sorry you're complaining, get lost." Carry out orders and friends and locals seemed to receive priority service. Mediocre, overpriced food. "Baked" pasta dish was runny, mozzarella barely melted, meat sauce with barely any meat, way too sweet. Garlic bread with very little garlic. Pizza crust was hard, flavorless, over cooked on edges. Sauce (to me) has a weird chemical-like taste. Toppings were not fresh, mushrooms were canned, pizza was under cooked in the middle. Wait time - it was one hour until someone told us it was ready to come out in a couple of minutes..... then it actually was another 30 minutes or more later, during which the waiter avoided us like the plague until we flagged him down and asked when our food would be out, then another ten minutes after that. After reading reviews, it would seem that the time deception is a sanctioned tactic. Finally, after going to the car, retrieving an old checkbook, and writing a check with a generous tip in spite of the deficiencies, we politely expressed that they should publish their payment policy and how wait time was misrepresented. Received a very curt response. Left an honest comment on the community fb page and was threatened, cursed, and called every name in the book by most of the friendly "locals." But hey, social media, right? The rudeness on a busy day could have been easier to forgive if everything else had been five star, but the food really isn't worth the price and the wait. And jeez, Monticello....I'm afraid to drive through town, much less eat at this restaurant again.

Scanning the food places we picked this because it seemed to have decent ratings and a lot of reviews. Plus, you get go wrong with good ol' American cuisine. The first kind of hiccup is that they must have recently moved building. Though they moved right next to their existing building, there was no signage and we had to rely on our own eyeballs. Which almost led us into the wrong building. Not a bid deal, realistically, but it threw us for a loop. Getting inside, it was super clean. Long bar, plenty of tables, modern, many tvs for many sports. Plus, the building itself seemed rather large. A chonker of a building, if you ask me. Our hostess brought us into what seemed like the back 40 of the building and seated us next to a garage door that overlooked a cement pad that will one day be a cement pad with things on it. Not even mad. Saw a train. Here's the money shot. Have you ever been happy adjacent? Have you ever been right up to the edge, the precipice, the peak, then turn around and leave? That was kind of the ideal feeling here. The ambiance and service and general-ness of the entire place was spot on. The food itself looked top-tier. But it felt a click away from perfection. Let's look into it. As a hefty man (fat, not the garbage bag brand), I'm a man of appetizers. Also of wings. Therefore, sign me up for 12 bone in wings for an app. Split into three flavors: Carolina BBQ, Buffalo, and regular BBQ. They came out looking and smelling delicious. The sauce flavors hit hard. But I was a little let down with the dryness of the wings. I know sometimes it can be difficult to knock a wing out of the park because those damn things just want to get crispy. But I don't want to fight chewing the meat off the bone. It felt like a battle me and my mush mouth would lose. Now, from what I understood, all sides were a la cart. Color me fine with that, fatty will order anyways. Especially since I saw they offered street corn AND hushpuppies. So naturally, that's what I ordered. The hushpuppies came out and were the round kind. Which I am no stranger to. They had good flavor, good done-ness, but missed the mark on the size. If they were hush people, they would have been premies. A little sad they didn't get to experience their full potential. Now, for this part I will say I was forewarned. My server did mention the street corn came in a bowl and was served cold. I thought I was better than somebody who judged street corn by its temperature. I was wrong. It did come cold. And because of that, it was not tasty. Missed the mark completely. I did get a bonus side, your typical, run of the mill French fry. They came out and looked great. Meadiu
