From the start, we were reassured by John's professionalism and obvious expertise. At every stage of the process, he let us know what he was finding and what our options were for dealing with it. He made recommendations (which we took) but left all decisions about modifications to our house and the fate of the animals he trapped up to us. He performed a thorough assessment of our property: inside and out, roof to foundation. He identified evidence of chipmunks, mice, and flying squirrels, and found their points of entry. He developed a plan, in consultation with us, for trapping the animals who were making their nests within our walls while leaving the innocents in the yard alone. John set several live traps, and over the course of about a week, caught a few chipmunks and determined that the flying squirrels had long since left their nests. He gradually closed up all their points of entry, found the exit trails of the mice, and closed those up, too. John guarantees his work for a year, but he's left us confident that our house is clear of all unwanted critters, and will remain so. They came last year to address an issue we had with wasps getting under the outdoor siding and into…read moreour home. Since 2017 was a wet year the wasps moved to higher ground. The exterminators had to come back a few times and the last time a young man who to us seemed a bit intimidated by the whole thing sprayed the insecticide powder under the siding before dropping the can of chemicals without retrieving it. We were assured that there was enough powder sprayed into the siding to do the job. The wasps continued off and on to come into the house. I vacuumed up 9 one day. I listened to the wall where the wasps were and I could hear buzzing, but it got fainter over time. I suspect the wasps had been affected by the dust that was sprayed in behind the siding. I think some of the workers carried it into the nest with them. Soon as the weather got cooler the wasps coming into the house stopped. This year 2018 we haven't had any wasps in the siding or in the house. I hope this is due to the chemical residue from the spraying. So far, 2018 is dryer than last year and that is a factor since wasps generally live in the ground when the conditions aren't too wet.

The young man was respectful, seemed to know what he was talking about and explained everything that he was going to do. He serviced my interior, then came back to provide exterior pest control products. The second visit was a different technician, he performed half the job on the exterior pest control. He was polite and he explained what he did. I decided that what I was doing was not worth paying for the service, so I called to cancel - since I was not under contract. I spoke with a young man, I explained that I found a more natural way to control the ant problem and no longer needed the chemical service. He told me that because it was close to the time I would get billed again, that I had to pay, then have 1 last service call and I would be done. So I chose my service date. The third visit was yet another guy - not the same as the first 2. He was late to my house, then spent 5 minutes walking around and didn't even do anything. Then he left. I thought I was done with orkin, since I called to cancel and was told after that visit, I would not get billed any longer. Lo and behold, I look at my bank account to see a charge from orkin. I called them and asked why I got billed if I had canceled my service last month. The girl that answered the phone had no answer other than she needed to reach out to the service manager. I called the next day and she said she had not heard from the manager yet. I asked her for his name and number - she provided them. I called him, informed him about the situation and he said to text him my contact info and he would look into it. So I texted him. I waited 2 days for a response and he has not responded. So I contacted my bank and am filing a dispute with my bank.

After an exceptionally heavy rain, a maple tree in my yard snapped its trunk and fell through a…read moreneighboring walnut tree, breaking it in half as well. I called Thompson Tree & Crane after a friend recommended them. Zach came by and we discussed options for the walnut tree, ultimately deciding to remove it, since it had lost its main trunk and most of its branches. Morgan, Zach, and another crew member removed both the maple and walnut trees with minimal disturbance to the area. Morgan did an excellent job of taking down the mortally wounded walnut tree without harming a redbud tree growing under it. I've never seen a chainsaw used with such surgical precision. For no additional charge, they also removed a large amount of branches left behind by a different contractor after a pruning job earlier in the year. Removing trees is always sad. After watching them grow over many decades, they're like family. The walnut in particular will be greatly missed. But Thompson Tree & Crane did the job with care, and I would recommend them without hesitation.
