This summer I hired him to do some extensive yardwork involving mitigating a swampy area and clearing out an overgrown area including a rather large dead tree and regrading the area. He also did some major tree trimming about the property. All of these jobs were done extremely well, at a reasonable cost and in a timely manner. Clean-up was thorough. Josh and his men were professional and friendly. I like hiring local and it's great to know he is available to do the kind of work that so often pops up on a rural property.

We have experienced two tree removals with Josh. One was three years ago when our next-door…read moreneighbor hired him and we shared the cost with her, as the tree was at the property line. The other was last week when she hired him to remove a dead ash that was threatening our home. Both times he did the job properly but was rude in the process. On this occasion, we spoke with him by phone about his plans to go all the way across our property and onto our driveway in order to remove the debris. He reluctantly agreed to take the shorter route on our neighbor's property, but when he arrived he started to set up in front of our house. It took several attempts and the threat to deny permission to access our property before he finally became civil and did as we asked. The tree which was very tall and difficult to remove came down with only a little damage to our oak, but Josh never acknowledged or apologized for his rude behavior. The bottom line is that if you want a skilled tree service with seasaoned workers, and you don't mind being treated badly, Josh is your man.

Following that, we hired Greenscene Lawn and Garden to install a crushed aggregate driveway with bluestone walking path, backyard sod with mulch borders, garden beds, natural stonework around our pergola and various plantings. Their landscape architect Kali helped us pick out and buid the vision of the plantings. The construction team was great, and although the pergola did leak they were committed to fixing it and eventually completely replaced the substrate and reinstalled the metal roof to guarantee we would not have any leaks. They were very receptive to my punch list requests at the end of the job and fixed everything I asked for. The landscaping team was incredible. They were in and out in 4 days then spent a few extra days buttoning things up. They gave us detailed watering instructions and left sprinklers and hoses for the sod to establish itself, and stopped by to check on the status frequently. We have been thrilled with the service and are looking forward to seeing the plantings coming to life.

We even watered the flowers and vegetation per their instructions. They did a good job laying paving stones around the pool area at the rear of the house and filling gaps with additional stone. But the front and sides of the house are just "blah." No beautiful, colorful flowers bursting forth like the promised photos. Green Scene charges top dollar for their services and we hired them based on neighboring residences and their landscapes. I expected a better result for the price I paid. Live and learn.

I called Thompson Tree & Crane after a friend recommended them. Zach came by and we discussed options for the walnut tree, ultimately deciding to remove it, since it had lost its main trunk and most of its branches. Morgan, Zach, and another crew member removed both the maple and walnut trees with minimal disturbance to the area. Morgan did an excellent job of taking down the mortally wounded walnut tree without harming a redbud tree growing under it. I've never seen a chainsaw used with such surgical precision. For no additional charge, they also removed a large amount of branches left behind by a different contractor after a pruning job earlier in the year. Removing trees is always sad. After watching them grow over many decades, they're like family. The walnut in particular will be greatly missed.
